WKRP in Cincinnati: The Creation of Venus (1982)
Season 4, Episode 19
5/10
Interesting, but ...
20 August 2020
This is an interesting episode, _trying_ to explain how "Venus Flytrap" came about, but it is full of holes and lackluster performances. A couple of the biggest holes: 1) Andy knows Venus' real name, but the WKRP history has Andy NOT knowing his real name until episode 18 of the first season; 2) Les shows off his office, including the yellow tape which shows where walls will be one day, but the yellow tape didn't appear until episode 10 of the first season. As for performance, they recreate Johnny's switch over to rock-and-roll, but it doesn't have any of the energy or excitement of the original effort.

One interesting note, in the recently released DVD set, in the pilot episode they removed the part where mama Carlson, just before she leaves, is saying she'll go along with things for now but "nothing strange, nothing weird" just before Venus walks in. That phrase is left in on the DVDs here when they recreated the "mama" sequence with Carol Bruce in place of Sylvia Sidney.

Interesting but full of errors
28 June 2020
I just ran into this series recently, and was thoroughly enjoying it, except for the commentators. Basically, it's "How It's Made" (which doesn't really show you how something is made) for food, only I think it shows more about the production processing than HIM does. BUT, then I started noticing the errors. The one I just heard. The narrators starts the show talking about nuts, how there are nut trees all over the world, how nuts are good for you, and then the show start on -- peanuts -- and NEVER, EVER is there stated that THE PEANUT IS _NOT_ A NUT. For the ignorant, then, they now think that peanuts ARE nuts. Sheez.

SEASON 8 - Brain Games Goes to Pot
11 February 2020
I loved Brain Games, until now. It _USE_ to be insightful, informative and educational. Starting with season 8, not so much. NOW the focus is on the GAME and not so much on the BRAIN. Oh, there is still SOME educational value to it, IF you pay close attention, but for the most part it is now all just another game show. I hope the go back to the old format.

I liked this series, and this episode, but ...

Warning: Spoilers
It struck me while watching this episode again that it is actually an anti-Christian show.

We learn in Part 2 that Count Iblis is actually the devil, and both him and the white lights (and beings we see at the end) are just an advanced species of man. This means, of course, that they are not spiritual beings created by God.

God, by the way, is never brought up in this episode.

And lastly, the beings of white are dressed like women who follow the strict Islamic code dress, with only their eyes exposed.

None of this diminishes my enjoyment of the episode. I especially like seeing Sheba in sexier clothing than normal. Also, I'm an atheist so I don't really care about the subliminal anti-Christian sentiment; I just thought I'd mention it for you religious types who may want to avoid this because of the sentiment.

Charlie's Angels: Of Ghosts and Angels (1980)
Season 4, Episode 13

The slide to oblivion continues
10 October 2018
As the title indicates, this is a ghost story, but not one where the ghost turns out to really be a human using gadgets to pretend to be a ghost. No, this has a real, "live" ghost in it, which is what makes this story so ridiculous. Add to all that, Tiffany is has psychic powers, able to see the future (at least in this one episode) in full color detail. If you are one of those that believe in the 4 Gs (ghosts, goblins, gargles, gods) this show will thrill you since it proves beyond a shadow of doubt that these things really exist, but if you are a reasonable thinking person, give it a pass. Oh, just one thing, it DOES have Cheryl Ladd and jacklyn Smith in some rather sexy costumes. That's the reason I gave it a second star.
