Feast (2005)
2/10
Enjoyed Project Greenlight 3, but the movie release of "Feast" is a disappointment
31 October 2009
It's Halloween and I finally watched the DVD of "Feast" the movie finally released in 2005 that was profiled in Project Greenlight #3.

Man, what a let down. You can see what they were going for, campy over-the-top comedy in the horror genre, but they missed by a mile.

Even knowing they had a very small budget, they didn't come close to a quality product; the acting was stiff and the editing was too abrupt. There wasn't any true tension and what was intended to be be suspense surrounding the identity and abilities of the creatures just never worked. Pacing was completely absent and the whole thing is a mess.

If you like the idea of what this film was supposed to be, go see the original Tremors (and none of the Tremors sequels).

Freak Show (2006)
3/10
too "inside"
15 October 2006
Looking at the cast of writers and voices, there are a lot of veterans of independent and underground type comedy. This show is probably more fun for them to make, than for us to watch.

The animation is crappy but that doesn't get in the way of funny. Trying to hang all the comedy on just being odd and different is what gets in the way of funny.

There's also a whiff of a mean little vibe like "you're not cool enough to realize how funny this show is". There have been plenty of comedy routines that are more about making people squirm in confusion than laugh out loud, and this might be another one.

Maybe it's just too early in the run, but if it doesn't get less "inside" soon, it's history.
