Grumpy old man
3 March 2023
Fascinating story of a man who choose his own path. Unfortunately his disappointing grin is stuck on his face since he choose the wrong path, as he's well aware of. He let down everyone who cared about him, mum and dad etc. Stubborn German, he pursued his path for 50 years chasing silly records of traveling - he saw the world and met amazing people yet he missed the most amazing things in life. To give and receive love - long, lasting, relationships of love. He resisted them yet they were right in front of his eyes. I feel sorry for this stubborn, slightly socially awkward man. He took traveling too far and he could not quit, he though he gained but he lost.

Nah

It's over the top. Annoying, terrible dialogue, boring writing and a series of very unlikely events unfold. No thanks.

Pretentious & unbearable
15 August 2011
I personally didn't like anything about the movie. OK the picture is great but I prefer turning on Nat Geo wild on my 50" Plasma for that. The classical music in my opinion fits awfully to the nice pictures as it gets too much. Add Jessica Chastains character's biblical, nonsense talk and the beautiful images are totally ruined.

The problem as I see it is that I don't want someone to throw me everything right in my face, leaving me feeling dump.

The religious undertone makes it unbearable for me since I am an atheist and consider religious people, more or less, brainwashed.

Director Malick should've killed at least half of his darlings and cut the length to about 1.40. But it would't have saved the movie.

I felt bad and honestly like throwing up when leaving the cinema.

Visually amazing, but with boring propaganda

Warning: Spoilers
This is my first review on IMDb. I believe this movie is very visually compelling, but thats about it. The female narrator seems to be telling a child over and over how bad we behave on this planet, with no focus on any real subject, basically just numbers and statistics thrown at you, nothing new, we all seen or heard it before. She's actually quite disturbing. Where did you get your numbers from? why are you repeating everything? Do I look stupid to you, I'm not a child. Maybe its what many of us needs to hear? Maybe thats the focus, to hammer this sort of propaganda into our skulls. But Im still dissatisfied with this movie, didn't meet my expectations in any way.. Maybe you should turn of the volume, put on some cool tunes instead, and watch it on a big plasma..
