Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
Great action packed film
Really great action packed film that keeps on you the edge of your seat throughout the entire movie. Great turn of events that keep you guessing, but still gel well for the franchise as a whole. Lots of familiar faces from previous films, but also some new ones.
I also like that in this film the "bad guy" isn't so clear cut and you're left making some of your own assumptions around that (in a good way).
Some not so great parts:
1. Some of the fight scenes were a little too slow. I'm not sure if that was actor ability, but it seemed too slow and forced. But overall most of the fight scenes were great!
2. While the film did have a lot of cool twists and turns, some areas were a little too easy to guess.
3. Who comes up with the name for the bad guy? Could use some more creativity.
4. Some of the tech that were crucial to the film looked kind of hokey.
Nada que ver (2023)
Hooks you with storyline between the halves that also need something
The story is not only led by an amazing cast, the plot is exceptional. The story revolves around a beautiful young woman that loses the most important gift she has to return home to be cared for by caretakers that make her feel as if she was handicapped. Then there comes a young man, with this own struggles for a job without expectations of anything in life. The story quickly turns when we see the true colors of each and the necessity to rely on one another to see through the hard times. Its incredible how the power of love can overcome even the hardest struggles but also the cost of sacrifice that may not always provide a return to the one who gives. An unexpected story of sacrifice from the one you least expect it.
¡Que viva México! (2023)
Gets at the root of ambition from a Hispanic family on a sent son and the greed behind it
The movie is an exceptional view into the often times secondary motives between a families that send their kids to the bid city in hopes of wealth down the line when the wealth was with them all along. Its an incredible look at the nuances of latino families and the stark contrast between the rat race in the big city and the passivity of rural life. The characters are over exaggerated, a great mix of dry and dark humor, loyalties amongst family members and the challenges of trying to live a life that sees for family members first before the rest. The movie is a great portrayal of family dynamics across socioeconomic groups.
