Chato's Land (1972)
10/10
Classic Western !
23 March 2012
....as mentioned, Classic Western! Very Gritty! Released in 1971, I first saw this movie at the (now closed) Rodeo Drive-In Theatre in Widescreen. Chato's Land is one of those movies that you have to watch From The Very Beginning! It starts with the towns sheriff going into the saloon. At the same time, Chato plucks a coin down for a taste. The bartender takes the bottle, pours a couple. I won't repeat what the sheriff says to Chato . . . but in a nutshell, Chato is Forced to defend himself & adios Sheriff Eli Saunders. Chato rides quickly out of town . . . & here is where i'm going to leave it. What happens to the men who "hunt" him down is what drives this movie ....almost from start to finish. It's unfortunate that movie hasn't gotten (any) good if not better reviews. In my opinion, the cinematography is wonderfully photographed & Beautiful . . . with the exceptions of the "saguaros" (notice how they bend when the wind kicks up). Chato's Land is one of those rarities that is "actually Western" with all the Dirt, Grit, & Horses. The Cast is Excellent ! Jack Palance, Richard Basehart, Simon Oakland, Victor French and the many others I didn't mentioned work so well with each other in this movie. but, be prepared for some of the language . . . An Excellent addition to Any movie collection ! Thank You M. Winner for an Excellent Western!! I also found out that the Soundtrack is now available on CD!! Enjoy!!

The Thing (I) (2011)
9/10
Excellent Prequel & Cast !
19 October 2011
This is a Prequel to the 1982 movie "John Carpenter's The Thing". This movie takes place in the year 1982 with "a Discovery" by a trio of Norwigians stationed in Antarctica. Next, a young student Palientologist ...Kate (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) is being asked to participate in this discovery and is convinced by her co-worker Adam to go . . .& so, she & him go. Once there, they find an alien ship of some sort that by the looks of things, is Very Big & they document what they have found (note the video recording equipment being used). Later, as they are coming out from where they were, they also discover a Frozen body with arms that somewhat resemble tentacles without the suction cups. The block of Ice is cut out & brought back to camp for further study. As they are Toasting & Boasting to one another on their discovery, the block is defrosting. Some noises are heard & the next thing you know, the creature has Exploded out of its block of ice & is loose . . & here is where i'm going to leave it. The visual effects were Excellently Done without going overboard. It would have been nice however to actually See what the creature looks like from the start. I guess i'll have to wait for the DVD to come out for a Closer Look. Great Work by Mary Elizabeth Winstead on the part of Kate. Not only do I think she is Very Beautiful with Minimal Make-Up, She's Tough & Kicks ASS!! If you have seen the John Carpenter movie already, this prequel will tie this whole story all together from the Very Beginning. You WON'T Be Disappointed ! Enjoy!

Great Classic Monster Movie !
11 November 2010
...I can remember when & where I was when I first saw this Roger Corman Classic. . . . it was when HBO was in it's infancy & late at nite or late at nite on the weekends, this movie was shown for one month straight! ..ah, what fun.

Originally released in 1982 & under the title of "Mutant", the title of which was renamed "Forbidden World" when it was released in theaters as well as being re-edited, Forbidden World is about a consultant who has been sent to a far away planet where genetic engineering is being researched.

Subject 20 has gotten lose inside the lab compound & eventually reeks catastrophe in the lab and in other parts/areas of the lab compound, not to mention, an appetite. ...& here is where i'll leave it without giving away the ending. For it's budget, the visual effects in this movie are quite good . . . gorry, but good. Although this movie has been branded an "alien" rip-off, . . . in my opinion (for what it's worth), I found this movie very entertaining, and fun to watch. ....especially when the monster made it's presence known. For quite sometime, this movie was only available on VHS. Now, it's been finally released on DVD & what's neat is that the Original Release of this movie under it's original title "Mutant" along with a "letter-box" and a re-mastered version of the theatrical release, and if you are a Roger Corman fan as I am, GRAB THIS DVD WHILE IT'S OUT!! ...enjoy!

Personal Best (1982)
10/10
Excellent Movie . . . Period !
19 September 2010
There have been so many things said about this particular movie . . . in my opinion (for what it's worth) I found this movie to be simply . . . .Excellent . . . Period ! Released in 1982, Personal Best is about Chris Cahill (played wonderfully by Mariel Hemmingway) who, along with Tory Skinner (played by Patrice Donnely) get romanticaly involved while commpetting in the olympics. Although this movie deals with certain sensitive subjects, the movie as a whole has an excellent storyline and ....when it comes down to it, love for another person. Writer and Director Robert Towne did an excellent job on this movie, and Mariel Hemmingway is (and always will be) an absolute Babe ! This movie is out on DVD. For excellent entertainment, Get This Movie !! You won't be disappointed. Enjoy !

The Love War (1970 TV Movie)
10/10
Excellent TV Movie!
12 April 2010
...there aren't many "Made For TV" movies that stand out . . . But, This One Does!!! My earliest memory of this TV movie was back when it was shown on the ABC TV Network Show "Tuesday Movie Of The Week" (I saw it in Black & White, It IS in Color) in 1970. This is a story of aliens from two different planets to wage war against each other . . and staying oblivious to earthlings on what's going on with each other. In my opinion, this movie reminds me of the TV show "The Invaders" (also a show on ABC) but, with a different twist & story line. Lloyd Bridges (Remember Sea Hunt?), Angie Dickensen (Police Woman) & Daniel J. Travanti (Hill St. Blues) star in this movie. As a collector of movies from my past, I have yet to see this title available on either VHS, BETA, LASERDISC, or DVD. This title is also very hard to catch on Cable or anywhere else. If you're one of the lucky ones to watch it, This TV Movie is Excellent Entertainment!! Enjoy.

Westworld (1973)
10/10
"...not to worry, Everything's Fine". Excellent Movie!!
5 April 2010
...like many other titles I've written about, This movie (like many others) ranks as one of my all time favorites!! Released in 1973, Westworld is the story of two regular guys (Richard Benjamin & James Brolin) taking a vacation at a vacation place run by the Delos Co., featuring different vacation "themes" such as Romanworld, Midevil world, and of course, Westworld which have or employ robots to satisfy every need. Anyways, without giving too much away, "Master Control" goes askew and, .....well, you take it from there. The ONE character who stands out in this movie is none other that the legendary Yul Bryner who plays the "Gunslinger" in the movie. Although Mr. Bryner is known for other rolls such as Rameses in The Ten Commandments & the king in The King & I, Yul is Outstanding as The Gunslinger! (Watch as he "cracks a Smile" after the gunfight with Brolin). TOO COOL & COLD!! Also, this is the 1st. work of Michael Crighton. If the name sounds familiar, He was one of the creators of the now famous TV show "ER". Mr. Crighton has many other works to his name, but My Favorite is THIS, His First Works. . . 'nuff said!! Also, watch out for Dick Van Patten as the "sheriff" in a portion of Westworld. Not only did I find this movie Very Entertaining, it makes one think . . . could such a amusement park ever exist . . . ? I was lucky to get an Original VHS of this movie . . . unfortunately in "pan and scan". Wheather or not this title has been released on DVD I have yet to find out. In either case, Excellent Entertainment awaits you in "Westworld" !! Enjoy.

Soylent Green (1973)
10/10
An Outstanding Classic With A Message!!
16 February 2010
...what hasn't been said about Soylent Green? This Movie ranks in my book as an all time favorite. I first saw this movie at the now closed Rodeo Drive-In in Tucson, AZ. in 1973, and still to this day, It makes me more aware of what's to come if we as habitants of this planet don't take more care of it and ourselves! Released in 1973, this movie takes place in the future and by now, most of country is in ruins . . . more or less. "Chuck" Heston plays a cop investigating a homicide of William R. Simonsen (Played by Joseph Cotten & like Eddie Robinson, this too was his last movie completed). To make a long story short, the "secret" of Soylent Green is uncovered and ....well, take it from there! This movie (if you know your actors) included cast members from other Sci-Fi pictures as well as well known "character actors". I just discovered that this movie is being re-made. In my opinion (for what it's worth), this movie should be left alone and not re-made!! This Classic ... after more than 30 years since it's release, is more popular than ever!! Also, the motion picture soundtrack has now become available! Before the VHS/DVD and the now released soundtrack become obsolete, GRAB IT!!! By the way, Leigh Taylor-Young is an ABSOLUTE BABE in this movie!

In Harm's Way (1965)
10/10
Excellent Motion Picture . . . Period!
2 June 2009
Otto Premimger's In Harms Way was released in 1965 (I was 5 yrs. old) and in my opinion, It is one of the most best produced World War II movies of the the 1960's. This movie tells the story of Rock Torrey & several other characters that are "interwoven" into the story .....be it directly or indirectly. Anyways, this is one of those motion pictures that has to be seen From The Beginning. ....right after the Paramount Pictures logo ...you get the idea. So, what makes this picture get a 10 from me? Well, I first seen it at the drive-in in glourious Black and White and in WideScreen. WOW! I still remember it to this day & it's still COOL to watch! John Wayne heads an all star cast in this movie including Patricia Neal, Kirk Douglas, Henry Fonda, Burgess Meredith (he played "Penguin" in the TV Batman series), and many, many more that I'm sure you'll recognize,...also, watch for Robert Mitchum's son in a serious scene of the movie. The visual effects, on location scenes, as well as a lot of military brass & and an Excellent story line makes this movie one of my all time favorites!! BRAVO, OTTO!! I'M GLAD IT'S IN BLACK AND WHITE!! E N J O Y !

The Villain (1979)
10/10
Wildly Funny!!
26 March 2009
.....The Villain! For those of you who really like Funny Westerns, you'll be in for a treat!! Released in 1979 (the year I graduated from Sunnyside High School), this is the story of a very pretty woman by the name of "charmin" (Ann-Margaret) who inherited a large sum of money & is escorted by family friend "handsome stranger" (Arnold Schwartznegger) into town to collect her money & to protect her. Along the way, "The Villain" (Kirk Douglas) along with is horse "Whiskey" tries to kidnap "charmin" and .....well, tries.....and tries......and tries. Some of the shenanigens "The Villain" goes thru is just Too Funny! This movie is a bit special to me because it was filmed at the Old Tucson Studios in my hometown of Tucson, AZ. before it was partially destroyed by fire. Along with Kirk Douglas, Ann-Margaret & Arnold Schwartznegger, it also stars a bunch of other known actors . . . . including Paul Lynde who plays "Nervous Elk" (or how he sez it - - Nerrrvous Elk). The Villain is a Wildy Funny Western that's sure to entertain. If you haven't done so, make this movie a part of your collection! Enjoy!!

Very Funny & Entertaining
25 March 2009
Singing star Alberto Vasquez was perfect for the lead in Pancho Tequila. Released in 1970,...and in color, Pancho Tequila ...if my memory serves ...is the story of a movie actor who has starred in Mexican westerns and is thought to be as tough as the character he portrays is somehow caught up in a small towns problems and naturally being known as the tough and fearless "Pancho Tequila", is shanghaied into rescuing the town. I can remember how much the audience laughed back in the day when I saw it. At the present, I am on a hunt for a copy of this movie in either VHS or DVD. If by chance you come across it, and you like funny westerns, Grab IT! Oh, by the way, the movie's dialog in it's entirety is in Spanish. A Very Special Thanks to my late mom for taking this reluctant son of hers to go see it and getting me hooked on ..... "Pancho Tequila" !

Scanners (1981)
10/10
Excellent Scary Movie!!
28 October 2008
....like some movie admirers, this one is a keeper as well as a big favorite!! Anyways, released in 1981, this is the story of a man named Cameron Vale played by Stephen Lack. Like some like him, he possesses a power or a talent.....whichever you decide. He is introduced to Dr. Paul Ruth. A consultant at "Con Sec" who works with these persons known as "Scanners". He (Vale) is sent out into the world to find, convert & send over to ConSec. However, there is another Scanner by the name of Daryl Revok...played wonderfully by Michael Ironside who is on the same trail of other scanners but there's a twist. Revok is trying to convert other scanners to his cause.....but the ones who don't, well,......take it from there. Written & Directed by David Cronenberg, Scanners has made a name for itself ....especially in this one scene where a man (who works for ConSec) asks for volunteers to demonstrate the "scanning techniques". BE WARNED! This particular scene is NOT for the squeamish. Aside from that, Scanners is a movie that is sure to shock as well as scare you. I still have a 1st. edition VHS copy of this movie released on Embassy Home Video. It has since been released on DVD courtesy of MGM Home Video...and it's in Letterbox. This is a movie that definitely belongs in any collection. ....oh, by the way, Jennifer O'neill is as pretty as ever in this movie. Enjoy!!

Classic Scary Movie!
24 October 2008
Aaah!! What a classic!! This movie ranks in my top 10 of scary movies. I first saw this movie WAY back in the day when Black & White TV's were the norm (mid to late 60's). Anyways, Released in 1959, this movie tells the story of the Drake Family & how it is faced with an old family curse. The two Drake brothers try to unravel why the family has such a curse upon it. The make up, visual effects and an "eeree" sounding organ give this movie that certain "umph" to scare you. Especially when your watching this late at night! Note: This movie is not for young kids......they'll get nightmares......like I did....when I first saw it. Enjoy!

Dog Brain (1988)
10/10
Fun piece of animation to watch
20 August 2008
I was first introduced to "Dog Brain" in the 80's when Nickelodian used this and other Canadian produced animated shorts to fill time between programs. Anyways, this was Jay Falconer's first animated short. Basically, Dog Brain is about a dog taking a snooze while various sounds play in the background (i.e.: kids playing outside, an ice cream man going by, etc.). During which the dog barks....softly......and continues to snooze. It makes one wonder.....what does a dog dream about when sleeping? UPDATE: I recently discovered that this animation short along with some other animated shorts from International Rocketship LTD. are on a compilation called "The International Rocketship Reel". As of this writing, it can only be found on VHS & is out of print. This has yet to be released on DVD but until then, if you can find it, GRAB IT!! If you are (like me) a person who loves cartoons (be it classic Looney Tunes or works that are "way out there") you won't be disappointed. In addition, this compilation also has "Bambi Meets Gozilla" from 1969. Enjoy!!

Good Bogart Movie
18 August 2008
AAh, good old Dr. X! To some Humphrey Bogart fans, this movie did not go over so well, however, there are those who think this wasn't so bad a movie. I was first introduced to this movie when KZAZ-TV Ch. 11 (now KMSB) would have "Humphrey Bogart Movie Weekend" from time to time. This was shown late Fri. evening/early Sat. morning. Anyways, released in 1939 from Warner Bros./First National pictures, this is the story of unexplained murders & the law along with some other interesting characters who try to find out who is behind these deaths. If I try to go on about this movie, I might give some things away so here is where I'll stop. Although there were some not so good things that were said about this movie, I for one thought this was a "good" movie. If you are a Boggie fan, then you might enjoy this 30's gem. Enjoy!

The Driver (1978)
10/10
Excellent car and chase scenes
25 March 2008
Why this film didn't get more exposure i'll never know. Anyways, this film was released in 1978 & also sports outstanding actors. Ryan O'Neil plays The Driver who steals cars & uses them in bank & other heists. Bruce Dern plays The Detective who goes after The Driver & tries to bring him to justice. The Detective tries to set up The Driver and ....well, I won't tell you how it ends but what leads up to it is just plain cool! The car scenes were excellent & almost rivals that of Bullit (a 60's movie that stars Steve McQueen). Although McQueen was supposed to star in The Driver, In my opinion, O'Neil does a better job. It now on DVD so add this one to your collection. You won't be disappointed!

Star 80 (1983)
10/10
Wonderfully acted & hauntingly real.
15 February 2008
This movie like some others ranks as one of my favorites. Mariel Hemmingway and Eric Roberts turn in some excellent acting work in this movie. Star 80 tells the story about a young girl from Vancouver & how her sleze of a boyfriend pushes her into becoming a Playboy Playmate. In my opinion (for what it's worth), Dorothy Stratten & her beauty rivals that of my dreamgirl....Marilyn Monroe only that Dorothy is from a time period in which I was a teen in the late 70's to the early 80's ....more modern I guess. Anyways, the movie Star 80 & with its wonderful actors demonstrates how a person can become obsessed & manipulative with a very pretty girl and ...well basically go over the edge. I just recently got the DVD version after my 1st. edition VHS started to show its age so, I don't play the tape anymore. In retrospect, although Eric Roberts does an Outstanding job as Paul Snyder, Mariel Hemmingway not only is Outstanding as Dorothy Stratten, she is also very beautiful & very respectful on posing like Dorothy in her photo shoots. Although Mariel Hemmingway has acted in many other movies, this one & Personal Best are my favorites from this actor. Yes, Star 80 is not only wonderfully acted but also hauntingly real in its storyline. If you haven't added this movie to your collection ...be it DVD or VHS, get it while it is still available. Enjoy!!

Excellent! Classic Scarry Stuff!
24 October 2006
...Like the other titles I have written about, this one too ranks as one of my personnal favorites. Released in 1933, this motion picture was filmed in early two-color technicolor (an eerie blend of blue & pinkish-red) wonderfully set to this movie. Anyways, it starts with the movie taking place 1st in London, 1921, with Mr. Igor (Atwill) sculpting on wax during a storm. After a visit from colleagues, Mr. Igor's partner....Mr. Worth, shows up and because of no money coming into the wax museum, Worth sets the place on fire to cash in on the insurance leaving Mr. Igor to die in the fire. Fast forward to 1933, Mr. Igor lives now in New York & is in the process of opening a new wax museum. At the same time, bodies begin to disappear from the Morgue. Upon a tip from the police, Florence (Ferrell) begins to investigate & finds that "there's something cockeyed about that place, & I intend to find out". Mr. Igor finds his "Marie Antoinete" alive in Ralph's girlfriend (Wray) & tries to talk her into being his next subject immortalized in wax. Not only did I like the storyline, but the visual effects in the movie as well as the color mixture. If by chance the storyline sounds familiar.....well it should. The basic foundation for this movie was used again in the 1953 3-D movie..."House of Wax". Both these movies are available as a 2 in 1 DVD. Enjoy. R.I.P., Phyllis Kirk.

WOW! What a way to end the day!
11 October 2006
It's too bad they're aren't late night shows like this one was. A la cama con Porcel (...to bed with Porcel) was one of original staples in Spanish late night TV. Jorge Porcel is a friendly, portly actor who made movies in Argentina, after which he re-located to Miami, & hence hooking up with the Telemundo Spanish Television Network & got his show on the air. Ahh, what a lucky guy Jorge was. He would start the show with his theme song (A la cama......A la cama.....A la cama con Porcel.) and then, would sing & then of course, his bevy of women.....in such costumes would dance....in such a way, you could not take your eyes off the TV. In addition to various other hispanic actors & actresses being on his show, Porcel would do a skit called "los aventuras de Tota" (The adventures of Tota). Now, Tota was Porcel dressed in drag & make-up & always, talking about her "adventures" with her dates. Some of which I dare not repeat due to "risque" language. Also, did you know that Regis of "Live with Regis & Cathy Lee" invited Porcel on their show? It's true! .....and what banter that went on between Regis & Porcel. Be it as it may, "a la cama" ran it's course on Telemundo & is now off the air. It would be nice if Telemundo aired repeats on their overnight hours......Maybe?

Under Siege (1992)
Overstuffed with Action...Mr. Seagal is Bad Ass!!
28 July 2006
Oh, Yes! This movie ranks as one of my favorite action movies to date! Steven Seagal is Casey Ryback....a lowly, lowly cook on the USS Misouri, on it's way to San Francisco for de-commission. While en route, the ship is hijacked & it's cache of weapons is seized. Little do the hijackers know is that the lowly cook is a former navy seal....and a damn good one at that. ...and the hijackers try to eliminate the cook....only to have the tables turned on them. There are lots of excellent hand to hand fights between Ryback & the various members of the enemy. If it's action you want, Under Siege won't let you down. Again, a big thanks to my late brother, Michael for turning me on to this movie.

A Wonderful Romantic Movie & Timeless Music Soundtrack
1 June 2006
This movie ranks as one of my all time favorites. Released in 1959, A Summer Place is a story of former lovers from the past that re-kindle their lost love. Unfortunately, now married to different people & unhappy, they find time at night to pick up where they left off. At the same time, the kids from their marriages fall in love (Troy Donahue & Sandra Dee) while at Pine Island, Maine....where the story takes place. While the marriages unravel, Molly & Johnny fall in love even deeper...but because of their parents unraveling marriages, they are both forbidden to see each other. As always, love finds a way to conquer all. At the time this movie was released, there were some subjects that arose....i.e.: Teen pregnancy, Adultery, deceit,...well, you get the idea. In my opinion, Delmer Davies (he wrote, produced & directed) dealt with these "touchy" subjects & translated them to the screen with gentleness & respect so that everyone watching would not be offended. What stands out is the music composed by Max Steiner for this movie. Percy Faith recorded it & released on Columbia Records in 1960 & became a monster hit! As of this writing, this movie has not been released on DVD.....yet, so if you can find the VHS of this movie, Get it! If you love Romantic movies, A Summer Place won't disappoint you. By the way, Sandra Dee is an absolute "Babe" in this movie. Enjoy!

Blue Thunder (1983)
9/10
Excellent Action Movie with Cool Helicopter Scenes
30 May 2006
I was first introduced to this movie while serving in the Air Force in the Phillipines. At the time this movie was released, the electronic surveillance equipment was state of the art.....and then some. "Blue Thunder" is a 5 Million helicopter proto-type that is to be tested in Los Angeles by the L.A.P.D. Astro Division & Officer Frank Murphy & his observer Richard Lymengood are assigned to test fly it over L.A. , only to find out the U.S. Gov't. has "other" plans for him & Blue Thunder. This was filmed in L.A. The helicopter chase scenes are excellent & keep you on the edge of your seat. Unfortunately, this was the last completed movie for legendary actor Warren Oates who played Capt. Braddock. Mr. Oates, Thank you for all the joy you gave us!

Wally Gator (1962–1963)
See Ya Later, Wally Gator.....!
19 April 2006
Ah, yes.....the greatest swamp operator, Wally Gator. This lovable cartoon character ranks as one of my most favorite....even to this day (thanks to Boomerang), I still enjoy watching him. Released in the year 1962....along with such cartoons as "Lippy the Lion"& Touch'e Turtle, Wally Gator is always trying to escape from the Zoo, & getting into mischief or trouble or ....something. Unfortunately, the people in the city didn't take too kindly to an alligator trying to fit into a human society....only seeing him as a either shoes, a handbag, etc. Like a lot of the earlier Hanna Barbera cartoons, Wally's adventures were always fun to watch. I was amazed to find out there are over 52 episodes of this cartoon series...so, try to catch them if you can. Oh, I just recently saw a "Wally Gator" cartoon (this one was updated & "computer drawn") where Wally is "rescued" from the zoo, & taken back to the swamp, only to get re-rescued at the swamp & Wally & the "other"gators drive back to the zoo & enjoy "life in captivity". At the very end, a little bird with a "big" beak is yelling to the gator rescuers...."eat me....eat me. You're messing with the order, no one messes with the order......eat me....eat me!" It's too funny....!

Classic Martial Arts Movie with Lots of Action!
4 April 2006
I was first introduced to this movie while in San Antonio, Tx. This movie was the 2nd. in a double feature. Unfortunately, the theater where I saw this was torn down. Anyways, Five Fingers of Death (aka: King Boxer), was released in 1972 and introduced in the U.S. the following year. Like a lot of "other" Kung-Fu movies released while riding on the "coat-tails" of Enter the Dragon, this particular movie actually was pretty good. It's the story of a country boy who is sent to a martial arts institute to better himself & his fighting skills. Meanwhile, the "opponent" martial arts school plans & scheme to thwart our hero, utilizing dirty tactics to try to throw him off track & try to prevent him from participating in the tournament. By surprise, I had thought since Warner Bros. distributed this movie in the U.S., Warner Bros. was going to issue a DVD. It never happened. As far as I know, this movie has been released in both English & Cantonise, w/sub-titles.....the latter a more "cleaner & clearer" version. Although the fighting sequences are a bit funny to watch (i.e.: flying in air & hitting, jumping on buildings, a fighter using his head....literally....to hit his opponent, etc.), nonetheless, it's classic kung-fu action wonderfully planned & executed. If you like Enter the Dragon, Five Fingers of Death would be an excellent addition to any Movie collection.....if you can find it.

Very Funny Entertainment, with a touch of White Castle......Yummy
1 February 2006
If you're in the mood to "really" laugh, then you'll love this movie. Harold & Kumar are friends. Harold works at a banking firm while Kumar is a med student. After getting together & smoking some pot, they get the munchies for what else?........White Castle Burgers. ...and boy, do they get more than just the burgers. What these guys go thru to get what they crave is something to watch!.....so, I'll just leave it at that. What I liked about this movie is that it is funny , simply put. With a touch of White Castle. Don't be surprised if you find yourself going to the store for some of those tasty "slyders"....& then watching the movie all over again. Yummy!

Ensign Pulver (1964)
Funny.......but not as serious as "Mr. Roberts"
14 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
OK, OK ! So I have heard that Ensign Pulver did not match up to Mr. Roberts. Nevertheless, I still found Ensign Pulver to be entertaining as well as funny. Ensign Pulver takes place at the near end of World War II, with a boat crew ready to throw it's captain overboard just to have some "breathing room" & some liberties. Just when the crew is about to blow a gasket, along comes Ensign Pulver with a "spiked" projectile & sling-shot with the captains name on it! As if things couldn't get worse, the captain is washed overboard during a storm....and of all persons, Ensign Pulver goes after him.....& ends up saving the crabby (later on with "frogjuice" very crocked & mellow)captains life. As I said in the beginning, there have been many things said about this movie......that it wasn't worth being a sequel to Mr. Roberts & the mediocre cast. In my opinion (for what it's worth), I found Ensign Pulver to be "more" entertaining & not as serious.....more funny & human. As of this writing, I have yet to see this movie in CinemaScope.....as it was originally released. Also, the cast in Ensign Pulver is much better & funnier. Enjoy!!
