The Pope's Exorcist (2023)
Really enjoyable
Russell Crowe was just fantastic. As was the guy who played the young priest. The story was tight and didn't ramble. Effects were good. There was even humour, but well placed. Not comedic. Really well made movie. These types can usually fail massively, but this was carried by terrific acting. Wanted to address the few comments saying the child actors were terrible. They weren't. Not sure what people were expecting. They played the parts just right. Also not sure why the score is so low. Not every movie has to be Oscar worthy or true to the minutist detail for it to be a good movie. Watch and enjoy.
Dirty War (2004)
Scary
This was so scary in its reality. When the van drives to the train station with the first bomb, it was so ordinary. Everyday people, going about Everyday things. Then in 1 second, it's all gone. It wasn't over dramatised. It wasn't americanised. Our Everyday day hero's going about there normal business. It was the only thing that gave you confidence. Knowing that the fire, ambulance and police never gave up.
Yes, there were some holes, gamma radiation would have caused vomiting etc. A few other things, but in no way did this affect the viewing or superb acting by everyone. It could have been double in time, but the ending was still good.
Treason (2022)
Better than the reviews
I gave it 7 stars. Maybe realistically a 6 but wanted to balance out the stupid ones and twos. I watched all episodes back to back. Kept husband and I intrigued all the way through. Of course there was plot holes, and yes, suspend belief. I'm quite sure this isn't how MI5 or the CIA operate, but it doesn't stop it being a good story. People watch Marvel and can manage to suspend belief and still enjoy it, why so different just because you think it should be.
Excellent acting. Believable characters, even if the wife is annoying for 3 out of the 5 episodes. Fast paced and enjoyable. Give it a go.
Colin from Accounts (2022)
Top notch
Thought this was gonna be a dull office thing trying to be funny. I was far off and never happier to be wrong.
Casting was perfect. Comedy timing spot on, but also very real and touching.
Really hoping for a second series. Want to see Berlin cry. Ha ha. Very happy to have taken time to watch this little gem. It proves that Australians can do comedy and do it well.
Even my hubby enjoyed it. Plenty belly laughs and a lot of cringe moments.
Support cast were also perfect and made the thing work as a whole.
If your looking for a binge show then this is definitely for you. And let's not forget Colin the hero.
Conspiracy (2001)
Superb
Came across this by accident. Was channel hopping hoping to find something half decent. Well, wasn't i surprised. This was more than half decent.
Sounds like it should be boring. A movie about a boardroom meeting. But not at all.
The whole movie was carried by the class of the acting. Kenneth Brannah, Colin firth was so intense. Stanley tucci was simply scary in his delivery.
The shooting of each scene made you feel part of the meeting.
It's not a ling movie. It doesn't need to be and finishing at the end with what happened to the real people put it in context.
It's a must watch for movie goers and history buffs alike.
Wednesday (2022)
Simply superb
The best TV show in a very long time. The acting Was outstanding. Not only for the main actress playing Wednesday, but by everyone. The support cast were so strong. Catherine Zeta Jones was well cast and was great. I loved Thing, Heidi, the sirene. Shouted for joy when Heidi Wolfed out. Good story and well paced.
8 episodes Was perfect. The cinematography was excellent.
All the young cast have a big future in Hollywood.
Give this a go. Hubby was also hooked. He originally thought it was just a high school bit of nonsense and was pleasantly surprised.
It keeps you guessing pretty close to the end, and the dark humour just made it fun to watch.
F*&% the Prom (2017)
Should be zero
Would have given zero but the idea of the story is pretty good and I hope it gets remade properly. Awful characters. Main girl is awful and why he forgives her a second time after betraying his friendship previously I'll never know. His father is so cringeworthy as to be totally inappropriate.
I'd never normally include spoilers. But just to save anyone else going through the pain I have.
2 teens who were friends. She becomes popular. He doesn't. Her best friend and boyfriend betray her so she seeks solace in a mate she let down. And guess what. Does it again. He forgives her. The end.
A Christmas Carol (2019)
Superb.
Guy Pearce was simply amazing. He wasn't your typical grumpy old man of previous Scrooge's. He was a downright awful human. Fantastic twist on why he became that way. It was dark. Well told. Not for children. But why should every Christmas be.
Christmas Miracle (2012)
Lovely story
Def not worth a one or 2 other reviewers have given. Very beautiful story Would have been a 7 but for the child actor. Painful to watch. Hope we don't see much more of him as an 'actor'. Shame. As the other acting was nice. Makes you stop. Think and re evaluate. Yes. Some terrible moments such as the insulin incident. Very cringeworthy in its incorrectness. All the food and drinks the mother managed to put together. But overall. So what. Who really cares. Give it a go.
A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish (2019)
Shocking auto tune.
I fast forwarded all the singing parts. Just awful!!! Acting was terrible. The billionaire recognising a 2 of a kind piece from a broken snow globe within seconds. A dress that fits 2 totally different body shapes perfectly. A guy who doesn't recognise a girl because she has a wig on. Step mother actin like something from an 18 th century comedy of errors. Only gave it a 3 cause it was a cute take on the story.
48 Christmas Wishes (2017)
Terrible
I love Christmas movies. Will watch even the cheesiest. This one was. As other reviewers have said. Just like a terrible school play. The girl elf is the most annoying child actor ever.
Last Christmas (2019)
Beautiful movie
Well written. Well acted. Beautiful Christmas story. Bring the tissues. Would highly recommend. Didn't give it a 10 only because I guessed the ending. Emma Thompson is at her usual awesome self. Funny. Clever. Easy to watch. Lots of humour in this movie. For the reviewers who didn't get the brexit mentions didn't watch it properly. It's very relevant to the story and why Emma Thompson's character is the way she is. I'll go watch it again.
Escape Room (2019)
Saw type movie
Good movie. Not great. Acting was decent. Story line been done before but pretty good nonetheless. A couple decent twists. Totally spoilt be the ending. Leaving you knowing there will be a sequel. Why not just finish a movie. Let it have an ending.
The Meg (2018)
Awful
Would have given It a 1 but upped it because hubby enjoyed it and Jason staitham is always worth a look. Acting was terrible. CGI awful. Story line so weak as to be non existent. Bad guy was too comical to be believable. The usual cutesie child couldn't save it. Don't waste your time
Let It Snow (2019)
Teen 'love actually'
Lovely cliched Christmas movie full of schmaltz and pretty people. But that's what a Christmas movie is all about. Sunday morning sitting in pyjamas type movie. Someone said it was so politically correct it ruined it. Not true. It was current. Acting was pretty good. Some up coming stars worth a watch. Is it an Oscar winner? Of course not. Just watch and enjoy. (And why did the tow truck lady wear tinfoil)
His Dark Materials (2019)
Just terrible
Where have those rave reviews come from? Terrible cgi. Terrible acting. Don't bother with it
Santa Girl (2019)
Real honest to goodness Christmas movie
Ticks all the boxes for a real feel good Christmas movie. The start had me worried but give it 10 mins and you really start to enjoy it. Good characters. Bad guys. Good guys. Happy ending and a good romance All wrapped up in Christmas paper. Def one to watch again.
El Camino Christmas (2017)
Not a typical Christmas movie
Not what I was expecting at all. Really good story. Tim Allan was fantastic. All the acting in fact was top notch. I totally cried at the end. Don't watch it if you want hallmark. Def worth a go.
Gifted (2017)
Excellent
I really dislike child actors. Not this one. She is incredibly talented. Love her in designated survivor too. And Chris Evans plays the uncle superbly. It's a feel good movie that even my husband enjoyed. Watch it.
The Party (2017)
Pretentious rubbish
Just an excuse for a bunch of pretentious rich British actors to indulge themselves in pseudo artistic crap. There was no reason for it being shot in black and white other than to satisfy the already aforementioned. Don't waste your time.
A Monster Calls (2016)
Beautiful movie
I loved this movie. So beautiful. Sad but not morbid. Stunning cgi. Great story telling. Very moving and touching. Acted with feeling and heart. Watched the kid who would be king not so long ago and the difference in child actors. Well. Night and day. That movie was a horrific in terms of acting ability. This one. A monster calls. The acting by everyone but most of all the boy was superb.
Delirium (2018)
Excellent thriller
This really kept you guessing. Excellent movie. Think the bad reviews were from people who like slasher horrors. This wasn't one of them. It was a gripping intelligent thriller. Plenty jump moments. Topher grace played the role perfectly. It wasn't overly long which was good. Would highly recommend. And it gave you a proper ending with explanations for a change.
Rocketman (2019)
Totally amazing
From the acting. To the cinematography. The time just flew. I'd watch it all over again. Loved it!!!! Please watch it
Mean Queen (2018)
Excellent
Really good thriller. Fantastic acting. Highly recommend
The Kid Who Would Be King (2019)
Appalling
Shockingly bad acting. Cringe worthy. A movie that proves that just because you get a role through nepotism doesn't mean you'll be good. The lead character was truly awful as was his side kick. The two bully kids were Marginally better. Merlin would have been okay if he wasn't trying to copy the character from a knights tale and the stupid hand gestures to make a spell. The scenery was terrible. Special effects even worse. Only gave it a 2 because the story itself was okay and would have been good given half a chance
