The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)
The most complete western ever made
The reason I love this movie, and its the only movie I have bought on VHS, is the dialog. Believe me there's not one single line thats out of place. 99 % of the lines are memorable, from "I reckon so" to "I guess we all died a little in that dam war". I love this movie and I think I have seen it I think over 100 times, I just finished seen it right now, because everything is perfect,I mean I don't find one flaw in it. It has everything, it will grab you and transport you to a time we will never know, a time of rugged living when the great nation was being formed, OK, I wish the Comanches, Cherokees were all still today peacefully today but nobody's ever completely perfect. I feel I can recite this movie from beginning to end almost word by word. As a matter of fact when I see the movie, again, I speak out loud almost all the dialog, isn't that unbelievable? The characters are all excellent, every single one of them, even that "mangy red bone hound", yes even he plays a big part in this movie that makes it memorable, the horny toad, he will show you which way to go, has got something to say, the carpet bagger, the ferry man etc. etc. etc. Please see this movie, no better still live this movie. As an actor, Eastwood to me is great and also as a director. Live the movie. I reckon, so.
La fiesta del Chivo (2005)
Hollywood its not
first of all this movie is nothing like the book and is definitely not the era of Trujillo. Hollywood is not, they should have given it to Hollywood but they didn't. it looks like it was filmed entirely at night, there's no show of the country because everything looks like it took place at night maybe because of lack of funds or imagination. the acting, well I rather not comment on that, suffice is to say that to me is worth 2 stars. the Spanish version, we have Trujillo speaking Catalan like if he was born in Spain, and so is everyone else for that matter, from the top of the military to the bellhop. I waited for this movie only to he highly disappointed, it sucks big time. thanks god I did not pay a lot of money to see it, then it would have been a really big disappointment. Iam Dominican, and in fact I even got to meet Trujillo once, and I tell you that wasn't him or even a close resemblance. I truly hope that one day, Hollywood would decide to do Trujillo justice and then we will have like a second godfather, full of the violence that existed during the period and true to trill's character.
The Ninth Gate (1999)
don't waste your time on this one
lousy, boring movie that just dragged on and on only to finish with an ending that made no sense at all. All I saw was a cigarette smoking Johnny Depp. Don't waste your time on this, you'll be disappointed for sure. The acting was second rate, Depp has done better, its obvious he didn't like the movie either, he was probably forced to take this role. It starts out interesting and you expect more, but it never comes. There's no climax, except literally, the plot is lousy, the general mood of the movie puts you to sleep faster than you can say pentagram. This is one movie I wouldn't even save or have in my library, it reminds me of one of those low budget movies that people put together just for the sake of it. 1 out of 10.
