Animated Epics: Beowulf (1998 TV Movie)
8/10
An Animated Epic
3 October 2020
I watched this film because of my studies on Beowulf in high school. This is the first adaptation of this Old English epic I have seen. I was pleasantly surprised. Animated Epics: Beowulf is a high-quality television movie. I quite liked the animation, although, in principle, it was nothing revolutionary. I was impressed by the sound design, which perfectly expresses individual emotions (fights with monsters). Creativity could be found more or less in all aspects, I also very much appreciate the set of the film from a historical point of view. The harsh, period atmosphere of the 6th century was intimately portrayed here. Another plus is that the film can nicely summarize the whole heroic epic in 27 minutes and the viewer has the experience. I think he will be appreciated more by people who are more interested in Beowulf, as there are also a few references to the text itself. The Russian-American-British film was a pleasant surprise and an interesting form of epic adaptation of this most important work of Old English literature.

Ancient Aliens: Aliens and the Secret Code (2011)
Season 3, Episode 13
6/10
The third season doesn't look the best.
17 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The third series doesn't look the best. From about the ninth or tenth episode, the theories and thoughts that the "ancient astronauts theorists" give us in the series are starting to be too strange. This episode talks about a kind of "world grid" to link some important historical places. According to theorists, these places were not built randomly but deliberately. They were supposed to be a kind of "secret code" for future civilizations. But now I am inclined to the theory of American writer Jason Colavito. What would an ancient culture think of its demise and how "other" civilisations could deciphered the code? Many of them were closely connected with creation and then with a kind of "rebirth". I'd say - cyclic life. In addition, these locations on the grid were to serve as UFO refuelling stations or navigation points. To me personally, it sounds very very implausible. For example, Teotihuacan in Mexico is undoubtedly a mysterious place that deserves more research. The claim that extraterrestrials are responsible for the allegedly similar architecture on Easter Island is unlikely. The fact that the Egyptian Pyramids at Giza, the neolithic complex of Thornborough Henges in the United Kingdom and the historic sites inhabited by the American Hopi Indians are all configured to resemble Orion is quite noteworthy, but to talk about certain facts with hundred percent certainty, I wouldn't. Some Viking ring fortresses, Delphi, or Giza are also built on one line. It is a really interesting finding out, but the same applies to the Orion constellation. And last but not least, the island on the French coast, Gavrinis, where various signs, marks, lines, circles from around 3500 BC were found. Allegedly, the island's inhabitants have been able to calculate the circumference of the Earth or Pi and then engrave it in stone. This is just a small part of the historical "affairs" that some theorists automatically attribute to extraterrestrial visitors without much research.

WWE in the prehistoric world of Bedrock
4 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
As a fan of WWE and The Flintstones, this film was quite surprising for me. I have noticed that in recent years there were created some animated films with WWE superstars (Scooby-Doo! WrestleMania Mystery, Surf's Up 2: WaveMania) and they are likely to be a small propaganda. Also, Fred Flintstone said a couple of times something like: "It's nothing dangerous, it's just entertainment! People want a show!" I like that the creators left the character qualities and abilities and the overall character. Fred is sometimes naive, Barney is more careful, Wilma and Betty are careful too etc. That's important for these films. And now the story. In my opinion, the story was just like put out from some Flintstones episode. Fred doesn't get the payout, so they cannot go to the vacation etc. Classic. Wrestlers were well incorporated here. Warner Bros. found the way how to get them here. My favorite is probably John Cenastone (John Cena). Boulder sisters (Bella twins) was weird here. FFE (Fred Flintstone Entertainment) was much less than in reality. It's PG. The animation is typical for Hanna-Barbera. Crazy, nice and quite elastic. This is HANNA-BARBERA! Humor was here, but weak. The positive side of the film is that it showed a lot of things how they are working in the Bedrock. Now I know more about the Bedrock. This isn't enough for the Flintstones. They were different.
