Palm Royale (2024)
A show that has finally gotten me to pay attention
First of all, I have to say I just love everyone in this cast. I would have watched it for Carol Burnette alone, it's a treat to see her in this role and she has not lost her touch, but they also got Alison Janney, who is soooo underrated and amazing. Its great to see the beautiful Ricky Martin on screen as well as Laura Dern. Kristen Wiig shines as Maxine and she's so fun. I initially watched it because I love the time period and the clothes are fabulous. It's a bit like madmen for elite club ladies, the story line is really coming along and the only thing that I don't like is that it'll end. Great job, great show. I hope that more seasons happen, I could watch Maxine and Robert banter all day long.
The Wedding Veil Journey (2023)
Don't crash a country then treat the people horribly.
I somewhat enjoyed the other films but I found this one to be quite insulting to the people of Greece. They cast the Greek people in a very negative light and generally seemed bored to even be in Greece at all. First of all, the lady tried to get them to their accommodations was treated as being shady with another purpose. They called it a 'shakedown'. The orphan boy was initially treated as a wily scoundrel. His headmaster got a heap of American virtue signalling. The girl at the restaurant was accused of stealing the veil more than once to find her own love interest. And by the way, you do not put an antique wedding veil on a plastic hanger with no cover over your door. Even if the lace is obviously machine laser cut. Rolls eyes. AND, the American chef had to teach a local Greek guy how to make Greece's national dish. Quite the holier than though attitude, especially when you consider the Italian movie, where the Italian families and their culture were treated so respectfully. The only redeeming quality is that they filmed it in one of the most beautiful countries in the world.
