Baby Reindeer (2024)
The Cowardly Lion
The story moves quite well, but at the same time is difficult to watch. Not because Martha is such a creepy stalker, but because Donny is such a wimp. Dude! Get some balls! At least Martha has the guts to go after what she wants, albeit deranged. But the way Donny just continuously lets her misdeeds slide is nerve wracking. I'm starting to think he's the mentally ill one. The ironic part is that just about everyone in his life, except Martha, of course, (and maybe the two jerks he worked with), would've supported him, had he just told the truth.
It's frustrating to watch, but for some odd reason, I can't stop.
Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey (2022)
Now What?......
Excellent documentary, but it kind of leaves you hanging. Are the businesses that benefitted from FLDS free labor still doing business with them and funding their lifestyle? Were any of the husbands who married under aged girls arrested and prosecuted? Does law enforcement and CPS continue to keep an eye on this sect? I have a million questions. I guess I'll have to do my own research.
Deep Water (2022)
Just Get A Divorce
The premise is unrealistic. For the sake of argument, let's say the constantly cheating wife is a mutually agreed upon and accepted decision. Does the wife need to flaunt her indiscretions in front of her husband and their mutual friends? If the husband agrees to this behavior, why does it upset him? Does the lover of a married woman not have enough sense to shut down the situation when her husband is staring him down? Why is the daughter mentally and emotionally more mature and intuitive than the mother? Why does the mother resent her child? JUST GET A DIVORCE ALREADY!!
American Son (2019)
Fundamental Differences
I totally get what this movie is attempting to do and bring light to. The problem is that Scott and Kendra are so drastically different on such a fundamental level, it is inconceivable that they would've been attracted to one another; let alone, marry and have a son.
Grace and Frankie (2015)
Whew!
This season is a refreshing change from Season 5. By the end of Season 5 I was so absolutely sick of Frankie's high horse and her rants I was about to give up on this show. We get to see more of quirky, but often wise Frankie, like we did in the beginning. Grace remains the same, but I'm surprised she is so overwhelmingly insecure about her age, the last 2 episodes redeem her. I don't know what's gotten into Brianna; while she's always been the hardcore sister, she was never this selfish and heartless (nothing a good smoke session w/Frankie couldn't cure). The writing is great, but the show needs to stay mindful that they don't turn each character into a caricature of themselves. They did that last season w/Frankie, now it seems to be Brianna. I get that each person has "their thing", but if Bud's annoying wife can pull it together, anyone can.
