Godzilla (1998)
And you thought Garfield Gets Real was bad
Don't smug me, but Garfield Gets Real which is in the 4's on IMDb is actually pretty good. But this movie is absolutely terrible! So bad in fact, that it makes you wonder why this movie was messed up.
The plot of the movie was terrible. After meaningless atomic bomb test on the South Pacific, a creature attacks a ship in the Panama Canal, I think. After being hired to investigate the matter, scientist Nick Tatopolous jumps to conclusion that it must of been a giant lizard created from those pointless explosions, and we know who he is. Godzilla makes his way to New York City and causes mahatma there, so he has to be defeated. Now it sounds simple, but they over-dumbed it by putting in stupid news reporter story stuff. We have an issue about news reporting with characters we're not fully introduce to. It seems like a strange complaint but the news issue was too long. It tended to drag on from 20 to 30 minutes, while I was waiting for another scene with Godzilla which is a little short and not really exciting.
All the characters were laughable and unlikable. A example is Mayor Ebert and his aide, Gene (which is really insulting to Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel). The effects will not blow you away and the action scenes are not fun at all. So what could director Roland Emmerich do to make this movie even worse then putting stupid characters, lumpy effects, and boring action scenes? How about messing up Godzilla's design which ends up not looking like Godzilla at all. I couldn't believe how badly they screw up Godzilla's look in the movie. The producers put in the laziest opening sequence I have ever seen. I think they knew they were making a bad movie so they didn't care. All I saw were lizards and explosions which is kind of hard to figure out.
The last and big complaint I have is the movie contains no references to the original Godzilla movies, aside from the name and roar, and doesn't have the Godzilla spirit. This could've been a great movie, if the script and Godzilla's design were faithful to the original Godzilla movies.
The bottom line is Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin made the Godzilla movie all a disaster! The movie will bore and disappoint Godzilla fans.
Do not buy this movie, do not watch this movie, do not even look at this movie. It's a sin that this movie was even made.
Garfield Gets Real (2007)
4.7/10? Are you joking me?!
Surely this film deserves more praise then it got. This is the third and best Garfield movie. Don't get me wrong. The previous two Garfield movie didn't show any resistance to the original fat cat and had countless differences with the strip. This is a Garfield movie done right.
The plot of the movie, written by Garfield creator Jim Davis, has Garfield tired of his old comic strip job. This is where we find out where a Garfield strip is made. It's like shooting a movie, but pictures are taken and are digital into a comic strip. The idea is very original. During the scene one part made me laugh unexpectedly and I won't give it away! Garfield then finds a way to get himself into the real world, and Odie gets into it too. Garfield enjoys life in real world, for a little while, but unfortunately he finds out his strip will be canceled, so he decides to try and get him and Odie back to the comic world.
The animation was fine for the movie, it had some best acting ever since the Garfield specials, and there are new and creative characters that you can get to know when you first meet them. There's also some funny parts in the movie and some fun action during the escape from the burning hotel scene.
Garfield Gets Real's not the best Garfield project, but the movie overall is smart, funny, cute, and you should be entertain from this movie. This is why I recommend this movie to Garfield fans young and old.
Two Paws Up!
Freeze Frame (1979)
One of the better later Road Runner cartoons
In 1979, Warner Bros. was putting together a TV special named Bugs Bunny's Looney Christmas Tales which contained 3 new cartoons. Freeze Frame was one of them. It was Chuck Jones' first Road Runner cartoon since 1964.
Here, Wile E. Coyote discovers that Road Runners hate snow. First, he tries a snow machine, but that doesn't work. Then he switches the desert and snow signs so the Road Runner actually goes to a snowy mountain. Wile E., however, doesn't have much success.
This cartoon has laughs all the way through. You will never be bored. The animation, even the backgrounds and the drawings are excellent and amazing! This cartoon should get more respect than it now does. Freeze Frame is an instant classic.
I'll give it 9 out of 10. Recommended.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Atlantis SquarePantis (2007)
A very weak SpongeBob TV movie.
With the success of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, Nick decide to do SpongeBob's first ever TV movie. Unfortuanitlly, they blew it into bite sized pieces. Well, at least this isn't as bad as CN's Re-Animated, but I don't get why Nick screwed up on this one too. There wasn't really much action in this TV movie, there were just songs. Lots of 'em! There were songs for the minor parts of the movie and they went on like they couldn't end, so the plot doesn't really go anywhere. Near the end of the movie the actual actions are rushed just 'cause the movie wasted most of the time with those useless songs. Now if that wasn't enough, these's really a song at the last minute of the movie (I'm sick of these songs after a wile) and just fells like something was missing from the entire movie. What a waste of time this movie was! What the heck were the writers even thinking?! This is no movie at all! Only younger audience could stand this but I can't at all! I think I just lost all respect for Nick's TV movies. So again, avoid this movie at... well just avoid it! If someone gives you it on DVD, avoid watching it and watch some other SpongeBob episodes that are on the disk. This movie is bad!
I'll rate this movie 4 out of 10. Not recommended.
Compressed Hare (1961)
An Average Bugs Bunny Short - And A Below Average Chuck Jones Short
Wile E. Coyote (Genius) is up again to have Bugs Bunny for stew! But soon after a few failed attempts like vacuuming, a cannon ball, and quick drying cement, Wile E. uses a magnet but it completely goes wrong!
I consider this to be among the worst Bugs Bunny/Wile E. Coyote cartoon. While it isn't bad compared to some of the other Bugs Bunny/Wile E. Coyote cartoon, it's fairly mediocre. Wile E. Coyote calls Bugs Bunny his neighbor for no real reason other than to get the cartoon running, the jokes are worn out and unfunny and the ending is so messed up and predictable you could probably guess that it is and know the ending just by reading the plot description at the top. The horribly written gags don't help matters much, either.
In the end, there's a lame gag about a high-powered magnet which can attract on anything metal. Since the magnet attracted some many random stuff, and since Bugs Bunny made a nonsense comment at the very end about sending Wile E. to orbit, I just can't laugh.
I'll rate this cartoon 5 out of 10. Why five? That's the biggest number for a mediocre cartoon I know.
