John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
Everyone here has drank the Kool-Aid
Listen, this movie was far from as good as the others and had very little realism to it compared to the others. Numerous times John falls from like 4 stories up and gets up and walks it off. He also gets hit by cars numerous times and simply just walks it off. He also falls down 222 steps and gets up and walks it off. Where is the realism here?
Also, the acting was incredibly bad. Like really really bad. Laurence Fishborne going over the top and Keanu not saying much, but when he does he makes himself sound like he's having a stroke.
Adding the black assassin dude simply as the diversity hire was a weird choice. Like seriously, he was the only black dude. The dude was a complete wild card that you had no idea whose side he was on. He was trying to kill John, but also trying to save him? Also, he had a dog to help him. Didn't Halle Berry have the exact same gimmick in the last movie that did the same trick of going for the nuts?
And where was John's motivation for all of this? Why was he in Japan? Why did he kill the High Table person? Why wasn't this Marques person introduced sooner? Why was a blind assassin 20x better than any of the other assassins? And lastly, why did John go through allllll of that crap just to die at the end? To protect Winston? The dude who shot him off roof?
Overall, there was only a couple of good parts to the movie. Nothing that the other 3 movies hadn't done before.
Knock at the Cabin (2023)
Worst I have seen in a while
TL;DR You could honestly just watch the trailer and get all the information you need from it. Nothing changes. It is all one long road with no turnoffs and answers to any questions you have.
This was M. Nights worst movie by far. You've burned me twice now. First with Old and now with Knock at the Cabin. His movies are well known for having a crazy fever dream storyline with a twist ending. This movie does not have that twist. It still does feel like a fever dream throughout, but it just ends like any other movie. You have four people showing up to the cabin claiming the world is going to end if one of the family members doesn't sacrifice themselves.
Knock at the cabin does not answer a single question. It throws flashbacks at you to show some sort of emotional depth, but falls incredibly flat. Storyline is incredibly one dimensional. Probably the worst part is that the story had such potential to be something really good. With the great acting choices and cinematography it could have been an 8-9 star movie.
But there is no explanation for what is going on. Who gave these four the visions? How did these four know exactly when to show up and when the apocalypse would happen? Why does Leonard keep checking his watch? What was the point behind Redmond hiding his real identity? What was the point behind most of the flashbacks? Why was their deaths bringing the next wave of the apocalypse and why did they have to die? Why was that family chosen to save the apocalypse?
Just none of it makes any sense.
Do Revenge (2022)
You almost had me...and then the ending happened
I was watching the movie thinking "yeah this is alright for a Netflix movie. Entertaining enough." And then the ending happened. Drea randomly exposes Eleanor as 'Nora' to the friend group. They all make fun of her for a minute and then Nora runs off crying and Drea runs after her to apologize. Like...why are you apologizing to a psychopath? Nora literally hit you with a car and put you in the hospital. She destroyed your future. She destroyed your social standing. Yet you felt bad for exposing her? And then you make up and become friends in the end? This was....beyond unrealistic. Who the hell forgives someone who purposely hit you with their car? The movie should have ended with Eleanor ending up in jail or in a psych ward because she is a certified psychopath.
Stranger Things: Chapter Seven: The Massacre at Hawkins Lab (2022)
What a phenomenal season
People, this is how you do a season right. The writing. The directing. The special effects. The acting. The banter. All phenomenal.
This entire season I was gripping my seat in suspense of what is happening next. The build-up to who is behind everything and who Vecna is(I had already guessed it was him) and his backstory. How it all comes together. Who 001 was was. The musical score building the suspense was so good.
This is the best Stranger Things has been. Feels very 80's horror/thriller/sci-fi. Probably helps that Mike, Will and Jonathan are barely in this season. I find the three of them hard to watch anyways.
The King's Man (2021)
Somewhat entertaining, somewhat horrendous
As good as this movie was with its historical takes, it was horrendous in everything else. It was so long and drawn out, and I didn't see the need to draw out Conrad's story in the war for so long.
The action was subpar. The CGI wasn't on par with even the first movie. The story could have been interesting if they used the villains better. Key to a good spy movie, is the villain. Without a good villain, you have a crap movie.
This movie had the potential to be very good, and they butchered it. The Kings Man is A one time watch. I'm glad I didn't pay to see this.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
This was just terrible
I don't even know what to say. It was so bad, that my buddies and I (whom are big fans), stopped during episode 2 and went drinking. Came back and finished all the episodes, and complained the entire time. We had no idea what episode 3 was. The show has deviated so far from the books that it's barely worth watching.
My biggest gripe is the actors. Most of them seem like they have never acted before or fit the role they were given. The acting is so stiff and the dialogue is dry.
This series is never going to make it.
Ojing-eo geim (2021)
Would have been a 8/10
Originally I was going to give this an 8/10, but then I got to the part where they introduced the VIP's and started to see the problems. Who wrote the script for these "VIP's"? They basically made them seem like Old Rich white dudes who didn't have a brain and never had a conversation before. Every time the VIP's talked, I wanted to punch them. That is NOT what English speaking people sound like.
Everyone is treated equally in the squid games, but as soon as the lights go out, it's no longer fair. They literally let that psychopath and his goonies murder 27 people in like a 10 minute span. How is that fair?
I will give credit though to The show, it did have some originality to it. Hard to be original is an era where everything has been done before. Just a little too graphic/gory for a TV show.
Bliss (2021)
Good movie, terrible ending
I enjoyed this movie until the last third. There were too many plot holes and unanswered questions.
They are doctors, but yet they call the drug "blue crystals".
Somehow the two realities were merging? One is a virtual world! How does a virtual, non-physical world, merge with the real world?!
His children's roles were completely pointless. What was the point?
I absolutely hated his resolution at the end.
"I can't stay here! I need to go back"
*two minutes later*
"I love it here! I'm staying!
Such a waste of good potential.
