The Zone of Interest (2023)
Good not great how I thought it would be
Idk. I shouldn't have my expectations too high for a movie. With this one I was expecting a classic but in my opinion good unique take on auschwitz and that time in history. I get it the conscious denial or whatever of what was happening literally steps from their backyard. I honestly think the director should have shown inside the camps 2 or 3 times. I kind of get it when they looked at Jews as not even human almost. The actors were fine nothing really stood out. The infrared shots were really interesting. I guess this is a fact not sure that Rudolph Hess had home right there. Also if you have trouble with subtitles might be a problem. They go by fast.
Stopmotion (2023)
Weird but good
This was one I read about and I had too see it. I love new,up and coming horror directors with a different look, feel.i felt the same about ari aster. Very effective story here pretty much about woman losing her sanity(I think). The primary actress was really good. Sexy, funny, scary, expressing so much with her face. Her mother was equally terrifying the short time she was in movie. If you see this every person probably have a different take on what it all meant. I didn't get the opening shot of like a blue object kind of spinning on screen for few minutes. Maybe her sanity maybe. Anyway I'd highly recommend if your looking for something new different.
Bob Marley: One Love (2024)
Critics were wrong
I've been reading reviews of this one and most critics panned this. Glad I ignored them. I enjoyed from start too finish. And I'm pretty picky about movies. Actor that played Bob is British I read and honestly if you look at actual footage of Marley there's just a little resemblance in my opinion. Still strong performance even though accent made hard too understand. Great soundtrack. And actress that played his wife was great. Intense,in my opinion the standout in the movie. I was unaware he had white father. It was a period of his life toward the end I think and people complain didn't go deep enough. But I was happy with it left feeling good.
American Fiction (2023)
See this one.Almost perfect
I went into this movie with very high expectations and were totally met. Its a fine juggling trick with drama, dementia, gay character, satire about black stereotypes. They did it. The script was great, all the main actors really moved me felt really. Shout out too Jeffrey Wright should get Oscar nod-it will go too Cillian. Only reason didn't give a 10 was the ending in my opinion bad. Leslie Uggams (sic?)was heartbreaking as woman going down with alzheimers. If this was this directors first effort then he's pretty damn good. Although Ari Aster stumbled with Beau is afraid. The guy who played Monks agent was really good too.
Night Swim (2024)
Not bad
Bad reviews on here baffle me. Yeah you gotta suspend disbelief, characters are thinly drawn, some of the dialogue unintentionally funny. Was it a classic?not close. Was it unique entertaining-yes. I just gave myself over too it and moderately enjoyed it. You could kind of feel for the people not knowing what's real afraid too speak up. I liked the way the creature/s looked. Just don't expect too much. Few jump scares made me jump. Kind of like that movie way back when where the senior citizens swam in pool made them feel young/healthy except here he's a baseball player with MS. Then a touch of the shining thrown in. Not bad.
Ferrari (2023)
Another good Michael Mann flick
I wasn't planning on seeing this because honestly I'm not that interested in Ferrari's life. I went because I like most of Mann's work and huge Adam Driver fan. The racing scenes were spectacular idk how he pulled them off. Adam Driver another great performance. Ferrarri must have been emotionally distant, cruel, yeah extremely driven, based on Drivers performance. Im pretty sure I recognized Patrick Dempsey as a driver. Very visceral, lots of business stuff I thought was interesting. Were all different but I seen a lot of bad reviews from people and I don't get it. Just like Ridley Scott idk how he pulled off some of the final races scenes.
Silent Night (2023)
Unexpected
I've seen one Woo movie I think-Hard Target decent Van Damme movie. Its hard too imagine a studio financing an action movie with no dialogue. Guess maybe budget was low no big names in it. Really fascinating how the face,on screen texting, action itself, created a mood where talking wasn't necessary. Of course main actor carried the movie. Very expressive face. Never seen an experiment like it but for most part it worked. I could definitely see the John Wick influence on Woo. About the last 30 minutes just gets a little ridiculous lol. Bad guy dancing with his chick with hundred lit light fixtures above them. Sometimes you gotta suspend disbelief like unless your an MMA fighter Noone can take abuse main guy goes thru. Anyway glad I seen it. Someone tried something different unique.
Malignant (2021)
Better than expected
Just accept this movie for what it is don't take it seriously.i really didn't even think acting was as bad as some critics think.not quite horror more creepy suspense mystery.camera work amazing the creature was different way it moved and it killed.yeah last quarter of movie was lunacy but fun.
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
Little boring
I went in with high expectations and honestly CGI great but after awhile I just didn't care what happened too alita .a good movie you should become emotionally invested in character and it's hard too care about CGI girl after awhile.at first her innocence discovering things was touching but I felt a disconnect when her power within started emerging.great CGI but the drama was lacking for me
Peppermint (2018)
