Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: His Way (1998)
Wonderful joyous episode
Watching this episode as I was spin biking. It was fun, engaging and entertating. I loved the old Sinatra songs and the characters in the holosuite particular Vic Fontaine. Star Trek allows for so many awesome plots and this is all about our connection with others and the power of love.
This is my first watch through of DS9 and I have been following the ups and downs of Odo and Kira over various seasons. Kept the tension going and this was a gem of an episode which made be smile with joy.
Love the dinner date with dancing scene and of the course the ending was so lifting too. 'Who needs dinner!' .
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Subspace Rhapsody (2023)
Pure joy
Thank you the makers of Star Trek for making this episode. Taking a risk and pushing boundaries is something Star Trek is famous for and yhou nailed this episode.. I was on my spin bike watching this with my wirelss headphones on and my son could hear me laughing as I exercised. It was wonderful joy and made be smile and laugh. Some great songs in this too. The crew must have had an awesome time making this episode. As with my epiosdes in this series It is an epsiode I will rewatch again.
Goes to show how powerful music and the effect singing also has on postive mental health.
Awesome one liners and loved the Klingons too.
Heroes of the Empire (2018)
Awesome the forces positively impacts lives
Amazing documentary which shows how a hobby and interest can have a postive effect on others, young and old. Showed the passion of the costumers and those who where the costumes., there dedication and what they get out of persuing their hobby. Documnetary was very well paced and just the right running time. Engageing all the way through and some truly joyful moments as well as some touching moments where tears were rolling down my cheek. Inspirational for me as I have a hobby, which is singing and playing the ukulele, which I feel I need to do more of, and go and sing- share with the world - and hopefully folks get some postive from my playing/snging.
The New Mutants (2020)
Awful movue- ambismal lighting
When I heard this movie was coming out I was very excited.
Wow, what a disappoint. Poor story line and script which does nothing to allow an arc for the characters. One huge flaw is the lighting, dark all the way through the movie and difficult to make out what is happening. Why didn't one of the people looking at the monitors when shooting the moive point this out to the director?
Plot holes, include the absence of staff in the facility where they are. How cooks the meals, where are the cleaners, the gardeners? This movie is a waste of time thought a useful example to show at film school how not to make a movie.
I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020)
Intriguing yet confusing
Intriguing, tense movie. Claustrophobic atmosphere. Some excellent performances. Liked the voice over at the beginning of the movie as this reminded me of a style of movie production that my son is using for his college course.
The downside of this movie, it that it is so confusing and we are just left to make assumptions. I have watched some YouTube vids where they explain that it is about the man looking back on his life through fantasy. There is also a connection to the story of Oklahoma where one of the son's is cast out for not fitting in.
Home Sweet Home Alone (2021)
Went in with no expectations
Yes, I saw the trailer and thought this is not good. However, sat down with the family and enjoyed it. Different premise than all the other movies with more focus on the 'intruders', where you got to know them a lot more and understand their motives. There were a few nods to the original movies. What I didn't like was all the traps, in that every single one of the those would cause major long term damage or death, though I thought the same in the original movie, but did see past that at the time. I thought this version would have a slightly different approach. Some jokes did fall flat and were not funny at all which included the plane seating scene.
Agent Carter (2015)
Simply wonderful
Have just completed watching the two seasons. Awesome script, acting and period sets and costumes. Great interplay between central charcters Agent Carter and Jarvis as well as other charcters which blend comedy moments and real drama.
The story lines are well conceived and have many nodds to the Marvel Franchaise.
Sad that no more seasons were commissined, but these two seasons have been a real treasure for me, whilst I have been in lock down.
The Irishman (2019)
Awesome movie, what if...........
Loved this move. Amazing acting and great cinematography. I think Joe Pesci deserves an Oscar for his performance. One what if is .... I wonder how things would have panned out in history if these men had counselling or psychotherapy. Anger management particularly for some of the characters would have changed things. This disease of 'honour' and ' you disrespected me' if discussed with a therapist would have had a different outcome in history. Luckily most kids now are taught from an earlier age to work through and avoid holding on to past trauma and avoiding holding on to 'holding grudges'.
Ok, those are my thoughts following the movie. I loved the scene Harvey Kietel , Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci's scene- which in my opinion should be a movie clip classic . Joe Pesci remains silent but it is his non verbal communication which is an an acting class and a half along with Harvey's 'now's not the time to not say' line - pure genius.
Mother! (2017)
Awful movie
Utter waste of my time. Started off with promise for the first 20mins then spiralled downhill. Disturbing but overwheling pretentious arty rubbbish.
