Yu yu hakusho (2023)
Decent made live action adaptation
Yu Yu Hakusho the classic 90's anime made into a live action series. No doubt this will divide hardcore fans of the series, but as a fan of this series I really enjoyed it. Almost felt like an OVA or a 5 hour long movie, kinda like the Bleach movie, but honestly it was solid, the cast captured the characters really well, the action scenes and CGI are really good, i do wish it were more than 5 episodes, I'm hoping it does get a second season I'm curious to see where they take this series. The one piece live action wasn't perfect but it was really enjoyable and so this series, so yeah do give it a try.
Ms. Marvel (2022)
The show will divide opinions but I'm loving it so far
This show was clearly going to divide opinions, but after watching the first episode, I liked it, my kids are loving it and that's all that matters to me. Love the actress and the animation, I know they made changes to power but I think its cool.
Cowboy Bebop (2021)
Loved it, probably live action anime by Hollywood
I always thought Cowboy Bebop could have a live action series, space westerns aren't new, look at 'Firefly'. And seeing how Guardians of the Galaxy was made, why not... No doubt this was going to divide critics and fans, from a fan of the anime myself. This was a really good live action series, enjoyed it from start to finish, stayed true to the key parts from the anime but also new stuff actually worked really well. The cast was brilliant, John Cho and Mustafa Shakir and Daniella Pineda pulled off their characters brilliantly... action scenes were okay could have been better, hope they they improve on that. Yoko Kanno's score great as always.
Overall it was good and enjoyable, I prefer the anime, but credit to the production team and Netflix they did a good job.
Dororo (2019)
Awesome anime great start to 2019
Can't believe this is a 50 year old anime... But man this anime is so good loved the first episode great start to 2019
Bulgeundal Pureunhae (2018)
Brilliant original Korean series
This show is by far the best crime show I've seen in a while reminds me season 1 of True Detective, the twists and turns will keep you gripped, and the performances are absolute masterclass
It (2017)
Well-made adaptation, a fun horror film with good character development.
It is a really good adaption of the book (minus the orgy thing of course). However, what a lot of reviewers seems to misunderstand, is that this isn't a horror movie as we've come to know them in recent years. It's not Saw or Insidious. It's not designed to keep you afraid and disturbed for the entire run time. This is a monster movie...
It's a coming-of-age thriller with supernatural elements, like Goonies and Poltergeist combined. The purpose of the scares isn't to scare you, but to cater to the fears of each individual kid in the losers club. I know people complain that it's not scary, Babadook wasn't scary and had a good story, also It follows, etc
With that being said, there are some genuinely unnerving scenes in the movie, but it has it's focus on the characters themselves, where the focus should be, In similarity to The Babadook, where the focus is on the distressed mother and her troubled son.
As for Pennywise, it's hard to compare Curry and Skarsgaard, as they depict two wildly different variants of the infamous clown. Curry was the creepy child molester (keep in mind he based it on a serial killer) type and Skarsgaard is just plain frightening.
The kids are easily the part in this movie they show drama, comedy, and some heart warming moments. Capturing a similar style to classic 80s adventure that we hold dear, that being this isn't a stranger things rip off, Stranger Things came in 2016, the It book came in 1986...
The movie has great cinematography and a good flow line of time, as well as great dialogue and acting. The one thing that may be slightly annoying for some, is that some of the scene to scene scares, doesn't always seem to stick with the kids.
