First Call (2000)
Fascinating
I must admit, this is something I've long been curious about as, although I was quite a hedonist for many years, the idea of going into a bar in the morning I found appalling. So the natural assumption is they are all alcoholics, but that is not the case. The bios of each of the characters, and they are characters, is slowly revealed through the documentary, with some, like Simon, being enough to fill an hour just with his own story. It's also a great time capsule of a world that is probably disappearing as cafes increase and bars decrease, and these drinkers are moved on to the streets, or drugs.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Awful, everything in excess.
Too many SFX, too much 'music', too many locations, too many utterly shallow characters, cliche upon cliche 'humour', too many plot lines yet still none interesting enough to care about. I would have left after ten minutes but circumstances prevented me so I had to sit through this torture. Just awful.
The Jacket (2005)
Incredibly poor interpretation of a quite brilliant book.
Sign of the times that we live in that Hollywood can turn any subject into formulaic banality, even when handed an example of pure brilliance from another century.
