Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Expected an original and modern movie.
How many cheap clichés can be used in a movie while keeping a straight face? Watch this movie.
I know people who went to see this twice. Everyone I talked to raves about it.
As a teenager the original seemed contrived, shallow and disjointed. Hoped for a proper movie this time with real acting, a good unpredictable plot and some fresh script offering the chance for proper acting.
Every aspect of this film fell short. Even the flight scenes while better than the first movie were stretching time to fit in the dialog. The low flights near the ground unrealistic. The dangerous climactic moments utterly predictable and lacking any suspense.
Really - I really wanted to like this and expected a fresh new take on the blockbuster with improved quality in all aspects. Instead we got another ten year old story by an actor who can make good films but usually wants to run about and blow things up and look cool.
Taking off your sunglasses to look hip, only works once.
In a few words, another cheap American embarrassment and a failure in almost all ways. Unless you're in your early teens perhaps.
Too harsh?
Red Notice (2021)
Funny and light, fast and easy.
Couldn't believe how nuanced and nimble this Ryan G. Can be.
This movie doesn't try to be too serious and it succeeded very well like this.
Rather perfect in fact as a good looking, unpredictable, fun quick escape.
Uncut Gems (2019)
Loved it. Refreshing.
Realistic and gritty. A rare movie that doesn't have us running around a city, so confident in its quality that it could exist on its screenplay, casting and acting alone. Perfect ending too.
Downsizing (2017)
Nice idea.
Good acting. 3/4 great and then falls flat and predictable and wasted the chance to make something unique.
Fail.
Attack of the Hollywood Clichés! (2021)
What a gem
Really insightful and simultaneously obvious. I want to watch it again soon. Funny too.
Baywatch (2017)
Cheap and nasty but,
Beautiful and funny in a new way. Could have been truly original and even a stand out.
Jungle Cruise (2021)
Cheap
For nine year olds and yet so much horror like visuals, albeit weak CG tricks. The film seemed 90% green screen. Started well but devolved into noisy painful confusion. Suitable for nobody really.
The Woman in the Window (2021)
Good acting but,
What's the point!
Predictable and sort of two dimensional.
Give it a miss.
Gemini Man (2019)
Excellent - it could have been.
Cheap script, lazy acting, predictable plot. Great in some ways. Why so much punching and fighting. Hard to finish. A young boy's movie.
Motherless Brooklyn (2019)
Frustrating
Disjointed, tedious, ugly and cold.
I can't think of any reason to make or watch this. Really arduous to get through. Cheap cinema and missing the mark or almost all counts.
The only things good about this film is the music and what little we see of Bruce.
Greyhound (2020)
Excellent.
All action movies should be like this. Just the right pacing and plot. A breath of fresh air.
Tenet (2020)
Running, shooting, deliberately confusing trash.
Sure it's a black guy in the lead scoring diversity points but who's he trying to save? The world or just on person?
I want these hours of my life back please. Boring, predictable, meaningless.
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985)
Good for 8 year olds I guess
Formulaic nonsense really. Tina and Mel almost made it worth the time. But really, give it a miss.
Da 5 Bloods (2020)
Utterly predictable, tiresome....
Trite, vapid, meaningless, boring.
Can't imagine why anyone would bother going to all the effort of making these cheap dramas.
Why must black people be portrayed as being so easily enraged and making one silly decision after another.
Wanted to like it.
Astonishingly bad.
Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi (2001)
Almost unwatchable.
Looked like 1970's cartoon quality. Mismatched drawings, angles didn't match, logic problems everywhere. The supposedly mysterious world couldn't keep us suspended.
A mess of a film and it's obvious (as the director himself admits) there was no script when he started out making this.
Anything by Disney Far superior in every way. And this is said to be most Japanese favorite film by him.
Baffling in every way.
Leaving Neverland (2019)
A slow reveal
Sometimes you just know when someone is telling the truth. Good on them for speaking out at last.
Ford v Ferrari (2019)
Fell flat
Racing unrealistically slow, car movements all wrong, exaggerated acting, too long, predictable. Proud American sort of Vietnam war movie feel.
Wanted to like it. Some good scenes. Rather shocked by how most seemed to love it. We are all different, aren't we!
The Irishman (2019)
Boring, slow, Hardly anything new.
Some moments of originality, suspense and fun. Overall a bore and self-indulgent. How can they justify the time out of their lives and money it takes to make movies..... when they're this lackluster!
The Mule (2018)
Boring
Utterly predictable, lazy unimaginative writing, slow, meaningless. A waste of two hours of my life.
If that story can be made, any script must be possible.
Ad Astra (2019)
Nothing new
Predictable and unrealistic. I want two hours of my life back. Up until a certain point it was good and building in intensity. I should have walked out at the right moment. Imagine all the time and money it takes to make a movie. If this is the future of movies, heaven help us all.
Rocketman (2019)
Perfect
Even in an understated way, perfect. The best movie I've personally seen in years. See it on the big screen. Terrific.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Brad, the 2 girls and the dog.....
They steal the film. Leo still can't act. Predictable mostly. Visually authentic but in the end, boring.
Mad Max (1979)
Near perfect.
Properly takes its time making us soak up the dystopia. The sounds and suggested smells, the speed, the desert heat, the dialog and fear. It's so effective, on the money. Every other Mad Max movie and action film since, pales in comparison.
Regardless of the budget and 1979 timing, it's simply near perfect.
The 9th Life of Louis Drax (2016)
Pointless, predictable, sloppy.
Could have been better with tighter control and more insightful creativity. Ultimately a waste of time. Good casting though.
Rust Valley Restorers (2018)
Colorful
Original, unpredictable, funny. Don't expect too much. They do seem so much more unscripted than most of these sorts of shows. I loved it.
