Girlfight (2000)
Next on my list to buy
Girlfight is a story about a troubled teen named Diana Guzman (Michelle Rodriguez). Diana is burdened by her mothers suicide and a sexist father living in a sexist community. A short temper and plenty of things to spark a fire, shes about to get kicked out of school for fighting. Her brother, Tiny (Ray Santiago), is training with Hector (Jaime Tirelli) in boxing. Diana is told by her dad, Sandro (Paul Calderon), to deliver that weeks payment for Tiny's training. While Diana is walking through the gym, she realizes thats what she wants to do. She wants to box. Diana asks her dad for money to train but he refuses because shes a girl and should do more 'girly' things. All Diana wants is to be treated like any other guy. Not looked down upon because she is a woman. She steals money from her father to begin training.
Great movie. Genius, pure 'effing' genius. Recommend to anybody who needs to see a good clean movie with no 'monkey business'.
American History X (1998)
Wunderbar. A great story
A great story about a family who once was together and living in a house that was together. A comment made by Derek (Edward Norton) and Danny (Edward Furlong) Vinyard's father changed the family for life. A common story of a little brother following in a big brothers footsteps, with a twist. The older brother (Derek Vinyard) is a "purist". Wanting to eliminate minorities and totally against drugs. Anything that could "infect" the white race. Derek commits hate crimes and is sent to jail. While in jail for 3 years, his younger brother is confronted about writing a book report on Mein Kampf, saying that Hitler was a great civil rights leader. The principal of the school, Dr. Bob Sweeney (Avery Brooks) confronts Danny about his report telling him it was completely unacceptable. Dr. Bob Sweeney decides to school Danny in his own way, taking him out of his regular class and into a one-on-one environment. The class is called American History X. Danny is instructed to write a story about his older brother, being the god of a white power gang. Danny confronts Jerome (Jonathan Fowler Jr.)(an African-American) in the bathroom after Jerome jumps a white boy who cant stand up for himself and is scared. Danny steps up and blows cigarette smoke in Jerome's face. Thats where it all starts.
Recommend it to anyone, not the little ones of course.
Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004)
Eh...
Resident Evil: Apocalypse was...well..interesting. Not necessarily in the good way. Acting was great. Character development for Alice (Milla Jovovich) was great. I have said this before and I will say it again. I do NOT suggest these films to anybody who is a big fan of the games. If you are a fan of the games, keep an open mind and realize that the movies don't really have much to do with the games. RE2 had more continuity to the games then Resident Evil (2002) did.
Personal opinion: I preferred Resident Evil (2002) to this movie. It did make a good 'brigde' to Resident Evil: Afterlife because of the lack of in-depth explanation. I have dubbed this movie 'The Bridge to Resident Evil: Afterlife'
Le Cinquième Élément (1997)
Highly recommend it
I had never seen it until my mom got it in the mail from Amazon.com or whatever and she came up to me with this movie in her hands and she was like "You HAVE to watch this movie!" My mom saw it years ago and she loved it so much she bought it. My mom doesn't buy movies. So I decide that yeah Ill give it a try and watch it. I was intrigued by the setting and the plot. I really enjoy movies that have that "Retro-Futuristic" feel. This movie definitely did.
The relationship/friendship between Bruce Willis(Korben Dallas) and Milla Jovovich(Leeoo) really caught my attention. It was until the third or so time I've seen it I realized that the Fifth Element was Love. Chris Tucker(Ruby Rhod) was kind of annoying but he had his times of importance and was a good light-hearted addition to the movie.
Of course who can resist the Diva Plavalaguna(Maïwenn Le Besco. Music by Gaetano Donizetti)? Her enchanting song played well with the more up-beat music that choreographs(right word?) well with the fight. The 45 second or so segment of the Diva was to short even though she did play an important roll (carrying the stones).
Milla Jovovich(Leeloo) is one of my favorite actresses (along with Michelle Rodriguez in Resident Evil 2002). Watching The Fifth Element definitely strengthened my respect for her work.
I HIGHLY recommend this movie to anyone. Weither you like Sci-Fi or not. Watch it!
Resident Evil (2002)
I have loved zombie movies ever sense
I thought it was AWESOME! Its kinda one of those movies where you either have to hate it or love it. I loved it. Michelle Rodriguez (Rain Ocampo) was awesome. Milla Jovovich (Alice) I think really did a good job...they even did almost all of there stunts! Some of the Goofs posted, you wouldn't know about unless you watched the commentary (I did of course). A lot of the things are really unnoticeable. The handwriting continuity was pretty bad though but I didn't realize it until the second time I watched the movie. I didn't watch the commentary until the 3rd time I rented it so I didn't know about the floor flexing in the elevator scene until I watched the commentary...I really liked how the director didn't shove the zombies in your face until like half-way through the movie. One of the reasons I really liked the movie was BECAUSE they didn't find out how to kill the undead until the Red-Queen chamber scene. I didn't enjoy the second one (Resident Evil: Apocalypse) BECAUSE they already knew how to kill them and it wasn't as much of the learning curve as in the first one. I really enjoyed this movie and I plan to get it for X-mas... Yes I loved it that much!
