Glass Onion (2022)
Slightly better than it's previous installment!
This time around, there is more humor and a decent amount of mystery, and slightly less runtime keeps it more engaging.
Daniel Craig, Janelle Monae, and Edward Norton are the main cast of this one and they take it away with their brilliant acting and equal credit goes to the screenplay writing as some of the cut scenes were definitely handled well.
I did like the overall setup and how things happen and unravel (Similar to an IRL escape room setup) and it's definitely worth a watch for all its details.
Rian Johnson needs equal credit as any of the actors as he showcased his brilliance in both narration and direction. It is a definite theater watch!
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
Tribute Worked but not the movie!
The movie addresses well what the characters are going through after T'challa's loss, and the acting is on point during those scenes.
Keeping those scenes aside, the battle between Wakanda and Talhokan isn't great. Even the writing is off at times as you cannot take a side between Talhokan or Wakanda as both of them are victims in their own way. As a result, it's difficult to empathise with or cheer for one group, resulting in the disconnect.
Technically, the movie hits more than it misses, be it the background score or the costumes or the art settings, everything is either decent or brilliant. We do have an interesting post credit scene that serves as a nice build-up for the next part.
It could have been better than the first if the runtime had been reduced and there was more emotional connection in the story.
Smile (2022)
Well executed Horror film in the recent times...
Or so I thought until the pre climax hit and there are filler scenes which only extend the climax or the director thought they need a few more jump scares and added those scenes.
But, keeping those scenes apart, It really starts off well and creates this eerie and cold atmosphere within 10 minutes into the movie. The screenplay is well written that it keeps you glued and Sosie's acting as Rose stayed true to the core.
There are a few camera angles and a couple of drone shots which are quite unique but doesn't serve much purpose except for the drone shots which have a hidden relevancy to the plot.
The jumpscares are neatly placed and well executed except for the last act and the background music is just on point.
Neugdaesanyang (2022)
How much blood/violence do you need?.....yes!!!
This has to be one of the bloodiest Asian movies that I have seen in recent times. If you're not a fan of R-Rated movies, definitely not recommended for you. But a must watch for R-Rated fans.
The concept isn't unique and feels like a blend of different movies came together. The narration isn't tight as well, but the violence/survival theme keeps you glued for most part. But even with all that blood, the action kind of gets boring in the end, as the action choreography/camera captures doesn't offer anything new.
As an action/sci-fi/horror fan, I did like the movie, but it does feel a little overwhelming on the gore/violence/blood.
PS:There are a couple of twists in the end which sets up a nice base for part 2.
Soul (2020)
Soul - You already know this!?
It's always the little push you need in life to move on and live your life. The little push can come in many forms (Gods, Humans, Omnipotent entity ,Jerry, 22, Joe).
Soul is just that little push that can make you feel connected to it's concept. Some people can feel motivated or some Adults may cry or some Children may enjoy it.
This is definitely one of the best Pixar's work and I was connected to the movie right from the start. I liked the narration, animation and concept as a whole. I was expecting a bigger ending but the end seems to be really simple (Maybe that's what life is...We might dream big, research a lot, earn tons of money...but in the due process we don't enjoy the little things as we're just focused on the single big thing).
The Grudge (2019)
Grudge - Sticked to the plot and lost track of the year!
This movie would've been a hit if it was released before 2005. This movie lacked freshness in terms of Horror or the Jump Scares. The acting is decent and because they stocked to the core plot and expanded it just a bit, this can be a good ending to the beginning of next part and this can be a definite Hit if it is executed well in the next part. That said the uneven screenplay and old routine jumpscares doesn't make this a good one. So, watch it if you don't mind starting your decade with an Okay-ish Film!
Ready or Not (2019)
Ready whenever you are!
This movie is a mix of Good and Bad Scenes. Sometimes, the emotions work and when it is followed by some Dark Humor, it won't work the way it should. In one scene, You feel empathy for the lead character and in the next scene you would laugh at the situation when she cusses. It's like a Harley Quinn's Drama.
It has a little dose of everything but the BGM makes you glued along with some fun Scenes, which is why I rated it above the average score.
Her Scream can make the Horses Run!
Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)
Spidey Stark!
The concept, setup and twist. Everything is so well built and narrated in the best possible way. Go watch it in 3D only. The Graphics are nothing short of "Reality". Tom Holland Sparks again as "Friendly Neighborhood Spider Man of Europe". Jake Gyllenhaal played a well crafted role of "Mysteri"O Enough Humour and Enough Action and brilliant story to start the Phase 2.
The post Credit Scene definitely builds up the suspense but I'm more interested in the story of the next part!
Rating - 8.5
Annabelle Comes Home (2019)
Annabelle comes home - You better stay at Home!
It has everything. It has the right cast, premise and build up to scare you yet they decide otherwise. It feels like you're in a Haunted House around some weirdo dolls. Zero makeup and zero plot.
To keep the plot is simple terms, Annabelle decides to play Hide n Seek. Any other movie in the series is much better than this one. I went to see this movie in the rain and I was already wet in the theater and I can already feel chills before the movie started and yet I come out with zero chills or goosebumps.
Spoiler : Nothing was scary except for the scream of a lady who sat a couple of rows up. 😅
