Reminiscence (2021)
Lovely story
It has Inception vibes and elements of stories from previous works... but it really works here for me. Beautiful story, beautifully acted, interesting premise. I'll watch it again.
Ang henerasyong sumuko sa love (2019)
Decent but incomplete
Very interesting premise with a stellar cast. It just felt like it's better off as a web series or something because at the end, it felt so incomplete. It felt like they made such a strong setup... then they just ended the movie.
The couple and the workaholic's stories felt the most complete. Kudos to the five main actors for a job well-done.
Gameboys (2020)
Excellent web series
Watch this before you watch the others! No regrets. Excellent story, acting, etc.
UglyDolls (2019)
Blah
The songs sound like something done before, the characters don't develop except for some bad people who turn good, the message is too simplified, the story is boring. Wait until it becomes available in DVDs or something.
Happy Death Day 2 U (2019)
Not very thrilling or funny but still good
This leans more into the sci-fi of it all... but it still has fun moments.
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
Love it.
Rami Malek is truly special in this film. Hope he gets all the awards he could get for this.
Amazing film. Go watch it.
Love, Simon (2018)
Sweet tale of love
If you are a fan of light-hearted feel-good movies, watch this. It is funny, it is relevant to the times and it has the potential to be a cinematic universe of its own (if each movie is dedicated to a friend's life. Bye to these YA films of worlds with segregation and rebellion).
Garner and Duhamel play great roles as the loving mom and the dad. The main characters and Blue all exude some kind of magnetic chemistry that I can believe I am one of their friends.
Of course, the ending is well-deserved after all that buildup and character development.
Ultimately, this is like Wonder from 2017-- the movie that won't get nominated for Oscars because it is too "light" and "fluffy" but it really should because it represents a more optimistic side in a world that seems darker and darker every day.
Crazy Rich Asians (2018)
Decadent and hilarious
I had doubts after catching the trailer for this film because it seemed like one of those trailers that reveal the entire plot of the movie.
It pretty much was... but man, you almost forget that you already know the beats that'll happen next.
Not much time is spent on the main character's life in New York and a lot of her reactions to the culture shock she goes through the movie happens inside her head communicated mainly through her facial expressions...
...but the movie is gorgeous. They did not lie when they called it Crazy Rich Asians because everybody is filthy rich. I come to movies to escape and see a life that could've been-- this movie did it for me.
Kind of a spoiler alert...
When the wedding scene actually transpired with the song and the water? Iconic.
Bravo to everyone involved! I wish them all the best of luck.
BlacKkKlansman (2018)
BORING. Not for everyone.
I want to like this. I truly do. I was so upset when I found out my local theater isn't showing it until they finally made it available two weeks or so later. I heard so many good things. The hype was real.
And then I believe it was at the speech towards the beginning when I checked out. That choice to show people's faces one at a time was too "music video-esque" for me and I realized this is not my kind of film. People are saying there are funny moments but I didn't find any. And that ending was just unnecessary; we can make connections on our own... as if winking commentary throughout the film isn't enough.
This is my second Spike Lee film and I enjoyed Chi-Raq. But this is a big boring waste of my time. There were only four of us in the theater and two walked out not even halfway through the film. Save your money and wait until it becomes available on Netflix.
