The Untold History of the United States (2012)
Honest. Sobering. Inspiring.
A must watch for every American and every Earthling, interested in history and aware of the present moment. Although many American quasi patriots might find themselves too weak to handle truth, a majority should find these 12 volumes a must to see and to share. The conclusion narrative of chapter 10 should remain embedded in hearts of everyone. Even if it is really hard to remain optimistic about the future of humanity, each can contribute his or her share of light in the eternal fight against darkness. As we can learn, darkness is not always easy to see. It is not limited by national borders, nor partial to political options. The solution has always been known but often neglected or pushed aside. Small steps and love. Lots of it.
Twin Peaks: The Return (2017)
love or hate
edit: I happen to be one of those who have signed in IMDb specifically to review the Twin Peaks 3. I am not the only one I guess, on either side of the love and hate spectrum. Just to make it crystal clear: I have no interest whatsoever in writing the review other that expressing my own opinion. I have chosen to do so because of the crazy polarity arisen from the onset of the TP3. I come from Europe, am a professional climber and mountain guide, 44, a father of 2, open minded, inclined to like sci-fi and very resistant to be put under anyone's opinion or influence. So, this is MY review:
Checking the ratings - they mirror the Twin peaks. Bi-polarity. A story revolving about the good and the evil. The obvious and obscure. About now and always. About finite and infinite. And you can either love it or hate it. But no one can say, how the others should feel about the Twin Peaks three.
I love it from the start and it is only getting better. ( Writing this after episode 8) Slowly, the pieces of Lynch's mosaic align together, forming ever growing picture of the well-known 25 years-old story, of us, of the world and the Universe. The ever present theme of good vs. evil, love vs. hate, hope vs. despair, integrity vs. deception, is served in a new, unusual, surprising, shocking, different, fresh, unique, bold and highly artistic manner. Nothing profane here. Nothing cheap. Nothing made just to appeal masses. No...it is a work of fiction, that resonates in reality and can relate directly to the nature of mankind. Which is...more sinister than it seems, but with a light of hope ever present. It is wrapped, and served slowly, spicy and hot, with shock, surprises and insights into a great imagination. With good music on top.
This show is worthy of the recognition in the hall of fame of the greatest TV shows ever.
I understand the haters, who have been expecting just a plain, easy to watch continuation of the old story. But... 25 years ago, things, events and forces were revealed that changed everything. The simple background stories (that I have always perceived only as a disturbing noise over the main thread) have been transcended by a greater, more serious and incomprehensible development. A quarter of a century later, things cannot be the same. And they are not. Only some old fans stayed the same through these 25 years. So they probably cannot like The return. They should not complain. It is not Lynch's fault.
