The Frozen Ground (2013)
Mundane
Sure, acting was fine. The topic rather "serious", yet the movie was very... bland. I mean, it's about a cop doing regular non-exciting cop stuff and a criminal doing even more mundane stuff and a victim being a hapless victim. Not a single scene stood out to me as poignant (considering the topic), thrilling (searching a house repeatedly and for ages because of a "troopers intuition" is not enthralling) or memorable (everything was so mundane!).
This time it's not the fault of our dear Mr. Cage. He did fine, so did everyone else, even 50 cent. It's just that this movie, the script was so... mundane.
I neither liked nor disliked this movie and I won't watch it again. IMO it was rather... mundane.
Bushido Man (2013)
Original Content
Stylized and choreographed fight scenes with a lot of focus on moves and counter moves.
Intertwined with humor both within and outside of fights.
Storytelling enabling active participation by puzzle solving, connecting meta humor and reacting to unexpected and surprising turns of plot and theme.
Sound and music connected to what is on display and its implications.
Delicous presentations and talks about food.
Choreographed challenges.
Refreshing.
Confessions of a Porn Addict (2008)
6 of 10 moments were pretty good
This is that two-faced kind of movie which on one side is a standard and by no means above average movie while on the other hand, if you look for it, actually has a deeper meaning, ready to be discussed and philosophized around, attached to it (wether it was intentional or not I don't know and ultimately it doesn't matter).
Parallels can be drawn to the lead characters addiction to porn (and the characters therein) and what he himself ultimately has to go through in order to "cleanse" himself.
Usually I like these kind of movies and am willing to forgive the not-above-average side of them, though in this one the parts with deeper meanings felt a little disconnected and thus the lower rating.
Still it is a good movie if you have no better choice and you're in the mood for a dark comedy with a splash of social commentary.
