Rabbit Days (2016)
Delightfully odd ride w/fantastic acting & dialog
I suspect this movie suffers severely from being presented as a scary movie in Amazon's algorithm. I just rolled into it with no preconceived notions. I really enjoyed the ride. Wonderful ensemble.
Dark Encounter (2019)
Awful, and not in a fun way
Where to start... You can't have an inexplicable nonsense ending and call it a "twist". It's just dumb. The pacing at the begining is nice, and it you think there may be something good coming, buglt it never does. The score is doing back-flips to try to compensate for the lack of any real drama being generated. It never manages to even touch on frightening. The effects feel very 2003. Just no. Don't waste your time. It's not so bad it's good. It's just bad. The insidious thing about it is it's constantly convincing you that there's something interesting just around the next corner. It's a sham.
Abar (1977)
Fantastically Awful B-movie
This movie is a real trip. If you are not in to cheesy, poorly made films with random cuts, go elsewhere. If you are, this one is for you. A black scientist, Dr. Kincade, moves into a very racist neighborhood and he and his family quickly become the target of vicious attacks. A local black-pride gang known as the Black Front of Unity (aka B.F.U.) headed by John Abar, quickly comes to the aide of the good Doctor. Eventually, Abar becomes the family's personal bodyguard. Improbably, the Doctor has been working on a special serum in his BASEMENT that will make you invincible. This is something you'll just have to except as there is not even the smallest attempt to explain how, or why this serum works or anything. Through a course of interesting plot twists, Abar takes the serum and becomes THE FIRST BLACK SUPERMAN. K, there is the flick in a nutshell. You really have to see it to appreciate just how awesomely B-flicalicious this really is.
For instance, the doctor speaks many times of the serum and how it will make a man invincible. He even administers some to a rabbit, which is then shot many times, and fails to die. Abar takes the invincibility serum and shortly there after has the ability to turn a regular plate of food into worms and pro-establishment racist cops into pig-hating hippies. If you like B's, this is a "don't miss".
The Last House on the Left (1972)
Historical shmistorical, this movie is neither disturbing or shocking or good in ANY way
I have not been one to be effected by hype. I have a great ability to wipe the figurative "slate" clean before watching any film, despite what i have read or seen. With this film, I had read all sorts of conflicting reviews. Some claim they could barely finish the film due to its graphic nature, some claim that while being over-hyped in that area, it is still a solid film that has historical significance in film-making. I understand the parallel that the director was attempting to draw between the light-hearted nature of television juxtaposed to the violent images on the news of Vietnam. All that aside, this movie is just plain awful and doesn't deliver on any level. The acting is roundly awful. Krugs gang is not frightening, intimidating or believable in any way. The movie plods along giving you a constant feeling that you are on the verge of seeing something shocking, but it never comes. They make one of their captors pee her pants, then they make them kiss, they rape them in a poorly done scene and then shoot one of them in a swamp. This is the first rape scene i have ever scene i have ever seen that didn't stir any emotion in me. The gang seems indifferent about everything they do. I don't mean indifferent in the "Wow, these crazy bastards don't care 'bout nothing'!" way, but more in the "Do these actors know that the cameras are rolling right now?" way. It's as if the whole film is a lighting rehearsal that was filmed and released. I'm baffled that this movie has achieved any status as an important or disturbing film. I'm a big fan of cult film and am still at a loss to see the interest in this film. I strongly suggest that you do not waste any of your precious time on this tripe. It has no redeeming value what-so-ever.
