Comet (2014)
so-so, but ultimately not worth it
I liked some of the camera work, but it got tiresome. The conceit of mixing up time was fine, so that wasn't the problem. The whole thing was just a little too self-consciously precious. I definitely did not like either Justin Long or the character he played, so that killed most of the romance for me. I adore Emmy Rossum, but ultimately this film wasn't worth 90 minutes of my life.
The Beach House (2018)
Sub-par acting, decent story
I have always forgiven Andie MacDowell because she's lovely and has some charm, but she really is not a good actor. Minka Kelly is on about the same level. Not crazy about Chad Murray, either.
However, the story is somewhat interesting--particularly the evil Southern father and son elements--along with the wonderful turtles, of course. I liked Flo and Toy a lot. But honestly, had I not started this, I wouldn't have missed anything by skipping it.
Love in the Afternoon (1957)
The best relationship in this movie was the father/daughter one
I adore Audrey Hepburn and Maurice Chevalier and even Gary Cooper in the right role. Cooper was such a dud in this. I kept imagining how good it could have been with William Holden as the love interest.
And I felt sick every time (again and again) Billy Wilder thought it would be funny to have a scene where a dumb twit hits a little dog.
The father/daughter relationship was adorable. Hepburn was wonderful, as always. I was quite disappointed by the love story.
