Star Trek: Picard: Assimilation (2022)
STP, STD and all other Kurtzman Trek makes These Are The Voyages look good
First, we all know this isn't canon so no point in dragging the drastic difference in characters without explanation or abilities, such as the speed at which assimilation occurs. However, it would appear that the writers of this alternate Trek have forgotten (if they even knew) that canon Trek delivered social commentary a tad more intellectually- they should Beyond the Stars.
Avoid at all costs. I was giving this season a chance after a promising start after episode 1 as it the best they've offered since 2009, but nope; 1 step forward 18 back. Further it is amazing that they never mention the Enterprise- it is almost like the name costs too much.
Star Trek: Discovery: Kobayashi Maru (2021)
How is this still being made?!
This new license Star Trek started off bad in 2009 and it has degraded with each instalment. I do not know where to begin, except with save your time and read a book or better yet, rewatch canon.
Star Trek: Voyager: Endgame (2001)
The last chronology canon episode :(
I can understand the hate/dislike, as time travel, if not done right, can be considered as a lazy mans technique to bring a story to an end. However, this works in some places and not so much in others, but the ending 5 minutes still makes my hair stand on end.
Star Trek: Lower Decks (2020)
Rick and Morty in Space
No Spoilers as there is not much to spoil.
First I have to say that this is the best 'Star Trek' since 2009. The aesthetics are on point as in we have a viewscreen - not a window, LCARS, and you could believe this takes place after Nemesis and so on.
However that is end of the positives. It is difficult to see who this is for, kids or adults? The stories go back and forth between the two audience types. Also the show is completely reliant on call backs to proper Trek as the humour falls flat. Therefore of those you who have seen the 5 Star Trek series you have in essence seen this show, but its in a contemporary cartoon 'humour' delivery.
I would avoid this rubbish, much like the other two 'Trek' shows. It is clear for a few years (ignoring the JJ movies) needs proper direction otherwise the franchise is dead in the water - if it is not already. STD was terrible, STP was even worse, but if we got the aesthetics from this show and people that knew how to write Trek then perhaps it can be saved!
