Femme-2K Aesthetic Movies & TV Shows
55 titles |
Public
Femme-2K also known as Y2K or Mcbling, is an aesthetic that was popular from the late 1990's to the 2000's, this period was known for it's hyper femininity in poplar media hence the name Femme-2K, often you'll see this aesthetic conflated with the Y2K aesthetic which are very much two different things, Mcbling is more about the growing conformity and materialism, as well as an growing interest in celebrity culture primarily the ones targeted towards teenagers. As with everything surrounding our cultural zeitgeist there are films and TV shows that showcase Femme-2K pretty closely in this list I will only be including films released between 1998 - 2007 although this trend really kicked off in the 2000s the 1990s had many preludes that would pave the way for this to become even more popular, as per usual with my lists about aesthetics that's the only thing I'm counting, this list is not about the quality, if the movies are poor I'm adding it in regardless, but I will include my critiques of the films so look out for that and one more thing to keep in mind is that I am a straight black male so I'm coming from an outsiders perspective, some of these movies I've seen and some I haven't. enjoy

This list is related to my Femme 2K list, so I've decided to accumulate the movies I've entered on that list and add in the characters that best represent that era's style and fashion choices similar to what I did for the grunge list.

Y2K Aesthetic Movies & TV Shows
70 titles |
Public
This list is now focusing on the period between 1995 - 2003, called the Y2K Era, in the mid nineties, there was a fear of the impending new millennium and what it would bring, people began to think that once the clock struck 00:00 AM on January 1st 2000, computers wouldn't properly recognize the circuit units and that it would cause an error in the calendar data, this would also lead to a collapse of all digital software, bringing in an impeding doom, this fear mongering also lead to optimism, the optimism was brought forth by the world wide web, this made people think there future was not only bright, but that it was going to be digitally enhanced, hence the aesthetic, The Y2K bug didn't happen, but the aesthetic still carried on for a couple of more years, ending a few years after 9/11, with that little history lesson out of the way, my goal is to highlight both the aesthetic of the films and TV shows and the premise, what I mean by that is that it, has to have some relation to espionage, digital software, futurism or technological optimism. When it comes to the aesthetic it's not essential, but if it doesn't have the correct premise I'm not adding it even if it has a Y2K aesthetic, a lot of these movies and shows I haven't seen and some of them you most certainly won't know. Enjoy PS. I have Pinterest pins showcasing all of the aesthetic of the films and shows I will link it here: https://www.pinterest.ie/zacharysinga1997/my-y2k-aesthetic-movies-tv-shows-imbd-list/
Hipster Aesthetic Movies
30 titles |
Public
As of all my aesthetic lists it's exactly how it applies I'm only looking at the aesthetic of the movies, the hipster subculture has it's roots all the way back to the 1940's it would closely resemble beatnik culture or jazz fanatics the culture fell out of favor by the 1960's and wouldn't come back into style until the middle of the 1990's. Hipster is exactly what it implies it's short for hip or alternatively mainstream they reject the mainstream while also being mainstream at the same time, they are known for their monotone attitude, indie fashion, vintage obsession and drug use, they are often associated with the millennial generation (born 1981 - 1996), and hipsters tend to have a more free spirted way of life, now that I explained what hipster culture is I'm going to go over the aesthetic, the hipster aesthetic is a mish mash of things, vintage obsession (early 20th century modernity), indie\indie folk music, earth-tone color pallets, subpar environmentalism and geek culture, for this list I will be adding in films that best represent this subcultures aesthetic as well as the themes and feeling of the film, I will only be including films between the years 2004 - 2016 as that was when this aesthetic was at it's peek, I won't be including movies set in the past as that's a bit revisionist I want to keep things contemporary, fashion and music will play a big part of this list as this was what most of hipster culture was known for. please enjoy
Grunge Aesthetic Movies

Public
This list is to showcase movies that have a grunge aesthetic, Grunge was a popular sub culture that was popularized by Seattle in Washington by the indie rock band Nirvana and has since become a staple of 1990's youth culture and lifestyle, this aesthetic was also used outside of just music it was used in both movies and TV as well. although my list will mostly focus on films released in the 1990's there where a few outliers in the Early 2000's I'll call this period Post - Grunge which is named after the music genre from that time. This list will only focus on the aesthetic of the film so if the films do not feature any grunge rock in it's soundtrack or have alternative clothing it will still be allowed on the list my focus is mostly on the look and feel of the movie, here is my list enjoy PS some of these can be quite mature so watch at your own risk.
