Guy's Grocery Games: Guy's Superstar Grocery Games: Part 2 (2016)
Expext the totally expected
Yes, we all understand that judging is not entirely impartial, but to watch Alex (and if I head "ICAG" one more time I might puke), throw a plate that is litterally drenched in oil and without the secret ingredient being the star, but suddenly, magically, when it shows up on the judge's table minus 90% of the oil and having the judges APOLOGIZE to her for even questioning whether the secret ingredient was the "star" of the dish is both pathetic and transparently ratings-based-judging. We're not dumb. We can see when the bigger ratings draw is given a pass in order to try to draw higher ratings on the next episode. The next superstar challenge where BOTH AG and Rocco are given passes on what sends other people home is almost too much to tolerate. Why don't you just say "Hey, we're going to put together a pretend competition, where we make sure the chefs who bring the most eyeballs will win every time rather than who cooked the best". At leas that would be honest.
The Walking Dead (2010)
Sorta like Baywatch
Yeah, I quit watching after season six. At some point you realize that Rick, Daryl and Carl are like the crew members of Titanic lifeboats who keep throwing women and children off in order for them to survive. The "were going to kill of a woman or child for shock value but we need to keep our main guys" just got old and insulting. If they suck that bad at protecting their women but manage to keep themselves alive, maybe someone else needs to be in charge.....of the writing
Top Chef (2006)
Would be a good show if not for Colicchio's Bro-Culture
Let's all be clear. Colicchio prefers male chefs. Once they get to the finals, even if everyone loved a woman's dish he finds a reason to pound them, and even if they don't like one of the men's dish, he finds a way to praise it so he can justify his vote. We get that this is HIS show, and he's calling the shots, but In the first 9 seasons of top chef, and all 5 of top chef masters, exactly ONE woman won; and then when women started catching on and tuning out (i.e. his ratings dropped along with his income), he changed his tune. Nobody is fooled. It's like watching a bald Jeffrey Steingarten who believed only male chefs could create good food.
Bitten (2014)
Perfect and then Disappointing
This show was like a bait and switch. The first season has a strong, intelligent female lead, which led to women following the show. By the second season, Every thought, action and decision Elena makes and every outcome of every episode is dictated by the male characters. The reason shows like Charmed and Buffy lasted so long is that the female lead stayed the female lead and drove the outcomes, rather than becoming a victim of men or circumstance. It reminds me of Dark Angel, where the first season was an intelligent, kick-a** woman but by season 2 it devolved into some weird sci-fi fantasy where Max was no longer the focal point, but a slave to circumstance. We deserve better.
The Next Iron Chef (2007)
Yes, FN Everybody knows these "Competitions" were Pre-Determined...
By Demographics. Iron Chefs were decided in advance, based on rating demographics. The let's pretend was shattered when Cora left because the core demographics of the food network was stay at home moms and when she became known publicly as a lesbian the ratings of episodes with her dropped, so you dropped her. The same reason every judge was visibly embarrassed and ashamed for sending Faulkner home twice. They knew they were being paid to do the wrong thing and it showed, but FN needed someone who appealed to their core demographic even if that demographic had a high percentage of racist homophobes. The Same reason Samuelson was sent home regardless of skill, knowledge and what was on the plate. A sad revelation to an otherwise entertaining concept.
Restaurant: Impossible (2011)
Enjoyable but a Little Sad in the End
It's enjoyable and fun to watch. It's a lot more about changing the business end, personal issues and aesthetics of the restaurant than the food. New Dishes only account for about 1 minute per show, which is a little disappointing. The biggest challenge is that it seems 80-90% of the restaurants don't make it and are closed within months anyways. That's not necessarily the fault of the show, many of these have tax liens, behind months in rent, or go back to their old ways as soon as the crew leaves, but sometimes it's also because they come in and make the place look amazing, update the kitchen, bring everything back to code and then the landlord realizes they can make 50-100% more in rent so all the benefits of the money and renovations and repairs end up going to the landlord. I would only do this if I personally owned the building they were doing renovations to or was like 1 year into a 5 year lease, otherwise it's just creating an incentive for your landlord to gouge the restaurant as soon as the show airs and location gets national attention. That's the sad part.
Project Runway (2004)
Hope they cancel it ASAP
Anyone who was doing this show and saying they had "No Idea" what Harvey was doing or "hadn't heard" anything from the models is LYING. Put a bullet in the show. Come up with something that empowers women, not degrades them like they are objects and victimizes them. #cancelallhaveysprojects
