Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Techno Color and Chrome filled Guitar Rifts
Thor: Ragnarok came out of its corner swinging. The techno color vibes and nostalgic rock n' roll music gave it the tone and visuals it needed. Some would say that the rock n' roll is getting over done in movies but I felt that it was very fitting. Look at the other Thor movies, of all the marvel IPs Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy are probably the most far-fetched or other worldly. The music kind of makes them seem familiar in away, instead of strange and completely "out of this world". Maybe this coupled with the more laid back feel of the movie let it succeed where the other Thor movies didn't. Jeff Goldblum really shines in this movie with his eccentric personality as the Grandmaster. Chris Hemsworth is still getting it right every time he plays Thor, albeit the hair cut really does look a lot better. I don't know about anyone else but I defiantly could have used more Korg. This movie is defiantly worth seeing in theaters. It's easily made it into my top 5 Marvel Movies.
The Babysitter (2017)
Future Cult Movie?
At first glanced I chalked this movie up to nothing more than a dumb "Scary Movie". This feeling only shifted after seeing a short preview video on Netflix. When it started to play I found myself chuckling along at the protagonist questioning my one of his capture isn't wearing a shirt anymore. A few days later on a whim I looked at my wife well trying to find something to watch and asked if "The Babysitter" would do. After the protest from my wife, we sped through the measly 1h25m run-time. Don't judge this movie by its cover. It is fun and self-aware flick that knows how silly it is and is not afraid of poking fun at its self. The premise really does not do a good job of conveying its meta-humor and ridiculous scenarios. Of course this movie like most these past few years likes to tug at our nostalgia strings and includes some great TV/movie/comic references and of course 80s rock'n'roll. I've watched it about three times in the past few weeks to show friends and family, who all had the same eye roll effect when I recommended it. In the end they all laughed and enjoyed it. Defiantly worth a onetime view.
