Inventing Anna (2022)
An interesting tale stretched way too long
This fake heiress story is very interesting indeed, the Netflix adaptation however, is not.
The actors mostly do a good job especially Anna Chlumsky, but it was very clear that there was not enough material for a 9 episode run, so they took artistic liberty which is fine had they done it well, but they DID not.
The series was very boring most of the time and would have been better with a 5 episode run instead of 9.
Also, someone needs to tell studios (ie Netflix), that Laverne Cox is an extremely bad actress, I mean she basically has one emotion which is a mix between a scowl and feeling uncomfortable.
Spencer (2021)
Refreshingly different
It goes without saying that there are too many Diana movies out there. However this one hits a bit different than the rest. It's not much autobiographical as it is a fascinating look into Diana's psyche and emotional journey dealing with a cheating husband and his out of touch family. Kristen did an excellent job capturing Diana's sadness and demeanor.
I think this is her strongest Role yet. Definitely get the Oscar hype she's generating.
Dear Evan Hansen (2021)
Shocker, a 30 year old can't pass for a teen
If ever there existed a movie to highlight the importance of casting, this is it.
No matter how talented Ben is, it's just too difficult to concentrate on anything happening when a 29 year old who looks like a 40 year old is playing a 17 year old.
Shaman King (2021)
Ruining a classic
This supposedly "fresh" and "updated" take on shaman king fails miserably. None of what made the original so enjoyable was retained and none of the weird changes added to this works.
The story is very rushed, the characters have no time to properly develop, and the series somehow feels both condensed and long!!!! Truly a mark of a failure.
