I Bring Joy (2024)
A must-watch for fans of thrillers that delve deep into the human psyche.
This film is a compelling psychological thriller that captivates with its exploration of dark themes and a complex lead character. The director skillfully combines elements of crime, personal trauma, and societal commentary, making it a thought-provoking watch with an atmospheric London backdrop. The performances, especially by the lead , are great, complemented by the film's mood and a fantastic score. Really loved the music, it stayed with me after the film and really sets the tone.
I know the director made this movie virtually single- handed , but this doesn't take away from the film in any way. It's a real testament to his can do attitude to get the film made by any means necessary. A must-watch for fans of thrillers that delve deep into the human psyche.
The Creator (2023)
One of 2023's best films !
The fact that the marketing was SO u drew helming on this shows how Hollywood is failing. This film is brilliant . It's part District 9, AI, Aliens, Terminator and Apocalypse now all rolled into one. Amazing cast, incredible stand out scenes . I mean the suicide number robots ... come in how amazing was that ! The death ' transfer' scene still haunts me. Hats off mate this is too draw stuff. Annoyingly if this hd Ryan Gosling in lead it would probably be too 5 films but the cast was amazing and so well places. Hats off Gareth. You are brilliant mate !! I was so impressed I've seen it twice at Cinema already :)
Anatomie d'une chute (2023)
So boring you will be begging for it to end
It's not that this film is boring , it's that it's so boring you will be literally praying for the end credits. The pace is so slow and the plot so moribund that you will wish you had fallen out of a window to escape this dross. This is what happens when up their own arse film festivals fawn over films like this made for the cardigan and slippers brigade , who have no idea what entertainment is . It certainly isn't being literally lulled to sleep with a film that has all the excitement and drama of a wet Wednesday afternoon at the library foreign book section. I implore you not to waste your time with this it's over two hours of your life you won't get back. I saw this for free at the Odeon as a surprise screening. I was certainly surprised . Surprised they had the gall to screen this total snoozeville.
Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
Needed 45 minutes cut. Could have been amazing!
Essentially you can't fault anything about this movie, except the pace. The story was amazing and needing to be told , incredible cast with incredible acting , incredible director , incredible visuals but the first two acts were like not just slow but excruciating. Needed 45 minutes out and would have then become an all time classic, but who is going to tell Scorsese to get back in the edit and clean up the soggy edit ? There is so much good about this movie it's a real shame pace became such a problem. There is simply no need for it to be this long. I will rewatch, but I spent a large portion of my time in cinema looking at my watch thinking wow we have another two plus hours of this , how am I going to make it ? This comes from a HUGE Scorsese fan going in wanting to love this movie. Final act bought it together but needed to have done so much sooner . All in my humble opinion of course . The trailer shows a very different movie.
Vivarium (2019)
Want to watch a hole being dug for 90 mins?
No? Neither did I! Jesus this is dull and at best a circle jerk for the director and his chums. A 90 minute 'short'
The Grudge (2019)
A dire mess!
Such a mess, it feels like a shambolic clashing together of mismatched ideas and timelines . Nothing redeeming about this unnecessary remake. Another completely pointless hollywood shambles
