The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)
A Masterpiece; A Touching Metaphor Of Life
Benjamin Button is a "curious" film. Directed by David Fincher (Se7en, Fight Club,Panic Room, Zodiac) it's a much different film from his regular suspense thrillers. It could be called epic. It could be called a fantasy film. I think above all, it's a film that presents life from a different point of view than we've ever see.
Benjamin Button is born at the close of the first wold war. After a tragic event involving his mother, his father immediately leaves him on the doorstep of an elderly home. He is immediately taken in by Queenie a kind, outspoken African-American. Throughout the rest of the film he has many hilarious and life altering experiences. None, however, are as important as the friendship he strikes up with Daisy, the granddaughter of one of the elderly. She immediately sees him not as strange but odd and peculiar. Many events transpire and throughout the film we constantly come back to their relationship which eventually transforms into a romance.
Button is one of, if not the, best film I've seen all year. David Fincher, working with a great script, does some top notch directing. The cinematography also makes the film something special. What also sets it above others are the remarkable special effects. The aging affects are particularly breathtaking.
Now, with all the praise on the technical side, there is plenty for the acting. Taraji P. Henson is excellent as Queenie. she's sassy and a perfect mother to the unusual Benjamin. Cate Blanchett is, once again, absolutely stunning. She commands the camera in her scenes. Her acting is brilliant and deserves an Oscar nomination, however, enough cannot be said of the man that carries the weight of the film, Brad Pitt. He is perfection as the quite, observer that is Benjamin Button. Despite the fact that he is very quiet throughout the film, he plays it so well.
Benjamin Button is a rare masterpiece. It has many themes about life and death. No matter how life starts or ends, you make who you are and it's about the things and events that matter to you that make your life special 10/10
Gilmore Girls: Friday Night's Alright for Fighting (2006)
One of The Bes Episodes of Gilmore Girls Ever
This episode has everything Gilmore Girls is famous for: witty dialog and MANY pop culture references. Firstly: Rory and Lorelai's lunch at Yale is HILAIOUS. The references to bridges of Madison County and Mozart pushed it to the top. Secondly: Lorelai's story before they enter the Gilmore house is HILARIOUS! and Finally: THE DINNER the way they were fighting with each other then Rory with Emily and Richard and Lorelai are calm then Richard and Emily fight then they're all laughing is AWESOME. then when Lorelai and Rory exit they look so fluttered and it just made me laugh.
all in all a Ten out of Ten!
American Beauty (1999)
Beauty
American beauty is one of those film that makes you think. It's got words of wisdom along with wit.
American Beauty is the story of Lester, acted superbly by Kevin Spacey. lester is depressed and his wife, played by the also superb Annette Benning, isn't much help. After becoming infatuated with his daughter's best friend, he quits his job, starts working out to look better, and lives life care free.
American Beauty is very well written and the acting is first class. Another thing thats good is the score.
I laughed, i cried but in the end i was left with an amazing movie experience. See American beauty you won't regret it! 10/10
Lost in Translation (2003)
the power of friendship
the first thing i just want to say is WOW! Lost In Translation is one of the best films i've seen in ages.
Bill Murray gives his finest performance yet. He's charming, funny, and lovable. His sarcasm towards life is quite amusing. besides this fact, however, he portrays Bob's depression very well.
Scarlett, again, is hilarious. her and Bill get into all sorts of comical situations and their relationship is something to envy.
Sofia, being the daughter of a legendary filmmaker, has a lot to live up to. To many Translation may not be the masterpiece The Godfather is, but in my book it is.
10/10
