Such a shame...
This could have been an interesting idea - tapping into current fears about AI. But no. They mucked it up. Personal dramas, Disney tropes and an awful script make this an E minus. Annoying kids. ( Why are kids in US movies always objectionable - argumentative, disrespectful and stupid?) So much is ludicrous. Little else to say except - sad. "Dad, don't you think we should get more people on this?" Is a question in one of the later episodes that addresses one of the obvious chasms in the script. The answer is - no. They didn't have a big enough budget. This nonsense should have had the plug pulled out before it began. Nothing much else to say - except please, someone - pick up the AI idea and do it properly.
World War II: From the Frontlines (2023)
Astonishing pictures - very poor history
Stunning images but very thin history. For example - a long sequence on the bombing of Hamburg, but nothing about the blitz or the 20,000 people who died in London or the 50,000 RAF bomber command killed over Germany. Same programme - Monte Cassino - nothing about the courage of Polish soldiers who took the mount at huge cost. Every episode cursed by shoddy writing and flawed history. Wrong! If you want to know what really happened, watch 'The World at War'. The classic TV series. It was narrated by Laurence Olivier. This version is narrated by some geezer straight out of 2023 casting. Awful..
Landscapers (2021)
The most original British drama in years
Stunning. I could go on - and I normally would. But I have just seen one of the most original and brilliantly written, directed and acted British dramas in years, and I am lost for words. Except - to the tin eared tone deaf and unimaginative lumpen who thinks this deserves 1 out of 10....you need to get out more. You should definitely give up watching movies or stick to Midsommer Murders which I am guessing is how you interpret genius.
Disturbing the Peace (2020)
Hilariously bad
The basic premise at the start was interesting - but the spiral down into comedy tripe was so much more momentum than the truly awful script and direction which just got slower and slower and more amateurish with every frame. How did Guy Pierce ever agree to this? If they'd put a fraction of his fee into employing a decent script writer and director it might have stood a chance but honestly it will do nothing for Pierce's reputation and he'll be lucky to get another gig. Jeopardy is the key to any action movie. This was totally devoid of any such and it just belly flopped into total nonsense. A seriously bad film and a strong contender for a Golden Turkey.
Clarkson's Farm (2021)
Absolute joy
Funny, insightful and an absolute joy. Jeremy Clarkson, Lisa, Kaleb, Charlie and most of all, Gerald down on the farm - and it's a hit. I defy anyone not to love it. Anyone with a sense of humour. Clarkson owns the farm and he admits he knows nothing about farming. So he decides to have a go. Queue a beautifully made and realised series with great photography lots of laughs and first rate entertainment. We must have more!
Kajaki (2014)
Real war
This is possibly one of the most realistic war films ever made. No glamour. No sweeping music. Just grit, raw and true. For anyone who was out there - it is real. A salute to brave men, to courage and also to their training and determination. It should be viewed by anyone who really wants to know and care.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Christmas turkey
Oh dear George. Surely somebody must have told you it was BS didn't they? Are you so adored and surrounded by sycophants that no one dared tell you the truth? It started well but when it quickly collapsed into an introspective sentimental soap it was almost unwatchable. The graphics and space visuals were what we have come to expect from any big budget film theses days. Impressive. But the script...oh dear Lord. Didn't anyone think it was worth spending on that too? This film snatched mediocrity out of the jaws of success and then shaped it in wet plasticine into a howling flop. No humour, no wit, no authenticity, no ... story worth taking about. Just one big sentimental mess. Awful.
Agatha and the Curse of Ishtar (2019)
Yawn
Dull and weirdly soulless. It's pure am dram. It looks as if it was put together on a scratch budget by a writer, crew and Director who aren't familiar with TV. Long winded scenes. Static dramatisation. Politically correct lines and dialogue and total lack of jeopardy. An empty vessel that plods from one set piece scene to another. The most boring numbskull imitation Christie ever contrived. The end credits state that it was not endorsed by the Agatha Christie estate. I bet is wasn't.
The Ballad of Lefty Brown (2017)
Love a good western ... but
Good to see they are still making westerns and I tried to enjoy this but Bill's speech incomprehensible at times. Mumbling through as with other performers which made dialogue hard to understand. Had to look for sub titles!
Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019)
Dumb and dumber
Ok so it's a film aimed at teenagers I get it. But how many teenagers are there who have had their frontal lobes removed? Because thats the niche this film seems to be aiming at. A totally ridiculous story with clever but ludicrous stunts and a story line that must have taken minutes to contrive. I saw it while dodging the rain. But to be honest I am sorry I didn't get wet. Why, when you have the vast sums of money that must have been lavished on a film like this did they forget to hire any writers? Bang crash lots of swearing bang crash villain dies in the end just about sums it up. Honestly of you want to disengage brain and while away two hours that you will never get back this is the film for you. Otherwise go for a walk - even if it's raining. You will certainly feel better for it.
