Split Second (1992)
A steaming pile of garbage
The only redeeming value of this movie is Rutger, and it just goes to show you how much an actor depends on quality writing and visionary directing to make them look good.
The writing and directing of this movie are Ed Wood laughable. If you dare watch it just be ready to cringe.
The Wave (2019)
It's Donny Darko meets Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
A young corporate attorney who specializes in cutting people out of insurance payouts finds a case that will save his company a lot of money. He has to present his idea the next morning, so his friend talks him into going out on a bender to celebrate the night before.
What begins to unwind is a nonlinear time jump adventure from what seems to be reality to full blown "Bardo" style hallucinations.
Well done in that it's not predictable, and doesn't explain everything: you get to figure it out for yourself.
Some super intense scenes, so not a movie for the faint of heart.
Also, a fantastic performance by Justin!
Santa Girl (2019)
Two great performances in this play movie!
The best part of this movie were the performances by McKayla Witt (Pep) and Devon Werkheiser (Sam).
McKayla channeled the whole elf thing and had carried so many scenes with her cute bubbly deliveries!
Devon was giving my wife and I serious John Cusack vibes! He was by far the most likeable character and hope he gets a big role in some type of John Hughes style romantic comedy.
Other than that, the movie has some strange casting and makeup choices. The whole Jack Frost character was too over the top and started to bleed into the "creepy" category. But it's a fun low budget Christmas flick, and happy to see new young talent!
Spies Like Us (1985)
Cold War comedy at its best
This is up there with Dr. Strangelove as hilarious col war comedy which delivers on the message that nuclear warfare is human folly. Dan Akroid and Chevy Chase at their prime. War Games in 1983 is another entertaining approach to this topic, though with less comedy and more suspense.
