Like Supernatural Season 5 finale.
23 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It did everything a series finale was supposed to do and even provided a great epilogue. Then they made another season. I still cry watching this episode. It completed Quentin's story beautifully.

It lost a point being so ham-handed. ***Mild spoilers***, the protagonist dies alot.

I like the overall concept and the story was told well. That gets a 7. However, the cartoonish villainy of the white antagonist and the black protagonist dying in a pool of blood in the shape of Africa gets a -1 for poor/ ham-handed symbolism.

Chicago P.D.: The Number of Rats (2015)

********Spoiler Alert*******

Warning: Spoilers
Again, spoilers from the SVU follow up. Nadia was taken to New York. The kidnapper eventually sexually savages/ violates her off screen. Her body is found among others in shallow graves on a beach. The kidnapper defends himself in court and generally applies character attacks not defense. He played up Nadia as a junkie hooker and was trying to "help" her escape from Sgt. Voight's repeated rapes. Then, when he cross-examines the M.E. he gets turned on by the description of Nadia's pain, damage, suffering, and death. Rape 1, Sodomy 1, and Murder 1 guilty. This character pops up once or twice, iirc in later SVU episodes.

I Am Mother (2019)
9/10
Incredible. First half of review is spoiler free, second half is not.

Warning: Spoilers
One of my favorite sci-fi setups. A limited number of humans, in this case, one. A robot/ AI, and a minimal setting. From there it can spool out like a play. Moon is another example. Excellent writing, direction, acting, and pacing.

The ending is what sells the entire movie. It requires a second viewing to fully appreciate, here is why.

****SPOILER ALERT, DON'T READ UNTIL AFTER FIRST VIEWING****

In the movie, daughter is APX03. She finds evidence of one aborted human. That was APX02. APX01 was born the day after the end of humanity. Nothing is mentioned after. 13867 days pass between APX01 and APXO3, daughter. That makes APX01 38 years old, this is the adult female character who was shot before entering the bunker.

Ok, after all of that explanation, rewatch the movie. Every action that Mother takes as it applies to Daughter is with the goal of making her the shepherd of the new human race.

The second time through is really mind bending. Love it.

Enjoyable episode entertaining and creepy, the Black Mirror staples. Won't spoil it it, but given the ending / epilogue. +2. Miley Cyrus was great.

Nightflyers (2018)
6/10
Would have enjoyed it more if correctly marketed. Still incredible.

Some of the best sci-fi horror since Alien. Focused more on dread/ psychological rather than jump scares and excessive gore. There is violence, but most of the horror aspect is a series of, "well, that's not good. I should hide/ run now" followed by the realization of how truly forked they are.

I would have given it 9/10 but this was marketed as a 10 day TV event. I assumed that meant that it was a limited series and would have a definitive ending. This is kinda not the case. Functionality, it is the first season of a series.
