Teen Titans: Lightspeed (2005)
An Unexpected Masterpiece
It's uncommon that a show can roll out a great episode not including any of the main heroes, but Teen Titans made it possible, in fact, this is one of the most memorable episodes in the series in my opinion. It all starts out with The Hive Five robbing a museum of priceless artifacts, everyone wants something different, but Jinx wants an emblem that symbolizes good luck, much to the confusion of her team as to why she would want that when she is "all about the bad luck". Right as they are about to get away with it because the Titans are out of town fighting the Brotherhood of Evil, a new hero in Jump City returns everything they stole at lightspeed, they soon find out he is Kid Flash, and he continues to foil all there plans, that is until they finally catch him and capture him. All the Hive Five members want to do something different with him until growing bored of arguing and wanting to do something else, except for Jinx, who wants to turn him into the Brotherhood of Evil to prove their worth, when she makes the call and Madame Rouge is headed to Jump City to retrieve the imprisoned hero, he escapes right after she hangs up, destroying their base, and leaving soon after, and Madame Rouge could not have arrived at a worse time for the Hive Five. Rouge is furious at them, and insists on catching him herself, but Jinx would not allow that and insisted on catching him before Rouge so she could still prove her worth. Madame Rouge chases Kid Flash around Jump City, tiring him out, and Jinx soon attempts to capture the fatigued hero, and this is where things turn around, Kid Flash tells her that her bad luck is something that should not keep her from being what she really wants to be (a hero), and she can use those powers for good, Jinx still decides to capture him and show Rouge what she did. Rouge was still not impressed saying that she did all the work in tiring him out, this upsets Jinx and makes her think about what Kid Flash had told her. This is when Jinx makes that major turn and releases Kid Flash, becoming a hero once and for all.
This episode did a fantastic job developing Jinx as a character in the series, I just wish we got some more information on her motives for being a villain in previous episodes, and it's disappointing that she didn't appear more in the show before this. Kid Flash does a great job on seeing the good side of Jinx from the start after observing that she wanted the emblem symbolizing good luck, and when Madame Rouge entered the room after Kid Flash escaped, you could feel the intensity of that scene.
Overall, this was Jinx's big episode, marking her turning point from evil to good, which is something I've been waiting to see for a while because of her minimal appearances in previous seasons, which makes having a whole episode focused on her near the end of the whole series all the more satisfying.
Teen Titans: Fear Itself (2004)
A Creepy Addition to the TT Series
So, Fear Itself is a very underrated episode of Teen Titans in my personal opinion. There is a lot to enjoy about it, from the character relations, to the genuinely creepy atmosphere throughout the entire episode. I thoroughly enjoyed how this episode was played out as well, I loved Control Freak in this episode and how his battle was particularly long. The battle sequence between him and the titans was smooth from the beginning to the end, and not to mention the amazing eerie music playing in the background throughout the fight.
When the Titans come back to the tower after defeating Control Freak and taking his remote away from him, they watch a horror movie that Beast Boy picked up at the place they defeated Control Freak. Everyone was freaked out after watching the movie, including Raven. This lead to Raven denying that she was afraid, and her fear finding a way out through her powers, creating creepy creatures to terrorize the Titans, taking them away one by one. The episode did a good job on keeping things pretty mysterious throughout the whole thing as to why the monsters were there, the only theory the Titans come up with is that Control Freak broke into the tower to take back his remote and bring the creatures to life for revenge. But this theory is soon debunked when Robin finds that Control Freaks remote is right where he left it after confiscating it from him. It leads to a creepier atmosphere not knowing what exactly is causing all the strange things to occur. We do get an explanation to what happened though at the end of the episode when Raven regains control over her fear, and Robin explains that Ravens fear was behind everything occurring.
So overall, I love this episode. I also liked how Robin was the first one to figure out that Ravens fear was the thing that was causing the creatures to appear, it really shows that as a team leader, he understands how each member of his team functions, and what their powers are capable of.
The monsters were creepy, the music was eerie, the atmosphere was fantastic, and this episode shows that even people like Raven still get scared from time to time.
Big City Greens (2018)
A Promising Start!
I wasn't too interested in the show when I first heard about it; the plot didn't really catch my attention, but it was definitely worth the watch! The show has a very simple premise about a small country family moving into the city, and they have to learn about the every day life of city folk. This makes for a simple yet hilarious show with so many future plot opportunities, as well as leaving plenty of space for character development. Big City Greens has a very nice character lineup as well, the Green family all deeply care about each other, and I love the overall joyful atmosphere of the show. The character designs are also quite interesting, usually characters without noses don't look too good in my opinion, but this show makes it work very nicely. I picture good things happening in the future with this show!
