The Irrational (2023)
a decent procedural
Behavioral science has been a big interest of mine for a long time as has psychology in general so I have enjoyed the first couple of episodes. I really enjoy the brother sister dynamic of the main character and his sister. I've been able to figure out who the bad guy was fairly early on in each episode but that could just be because this type of show is my favorite and they all set it up the same way so it's easy for me to do. It doesn't take away from enjoying the show. All shows take a little while to ramp up into what they are going to be so hard to judge a show harshly off a couple of episodes.
Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New (2023)
Different than the others doesn't mean bad
I just watched this newest movie and then read the reviews that others gave it. While I see their point (different heights for the Auroras, Sally with a different personality, etc etc), I don't think it's a bad thing. I thought it was a fresh look which these movies needed. The movie takes place in 2008 and honestly, clothing styles haven't changed THAT much since then. With that being said, that's a bunch of years - people grow. Sally could be different now than in 2008 based on life experiences since then. I'm not the same person I was in 2008. I thought the movie was interesting and kept my attention. The former Aurora left for a much more religious company and she clearly no longer thinks Hallmark has the same values as her, she isn't coming back anytime soon. Also, if you have read the books, the way they wrote the former Aurora is MUCH different than the books (she was very prudish in the books). The books also take place in Georgia and the movies in the PNW. So they were already taking creative license and with this new Aurora, they have taken some more - doesn't make it bad, just different.
FBI: Privilege (2023)
Maggie is insufferable this season
Just last episode Maggie said her former drug addicted sister was an embarrassment and she wanted nothing to do with her, but this week she gets all high and mighty over a missing former drug addict because no one was looking for her. Would she have looked for her sister? Probably not. She is such a hypocrite and over this season, has just become harder and harder to take. The overall story this episode was good, it was nice to have a break from another episode about a bomb to find, but Maggie's attitude was hard to take. She is just always so mean to everyone. I miss when Maggie was out and Nina was on the team.
How I Met Your Father (2022)
Not everything has to be prestige tv
I really liked this show and I expected not to. It's exactly like all of my comfort shows and sometimes you just want to watch something cozy and funny. Not every show has to be out winning critic awards to be good.
Midnight Mass (2021)
Don't drink the koolaid.
Spoiler alert!
I liked the show and overall story. But will agree with others that some of the monologues were ridiculously long and took you out of the story. I basically held out to make sure Bev got hers because she was the actual worst. What didn't make sense to me was the fact that apparently no one on the island had ever heard of vampires before. And the last couple episodes were straight out of what happened in Jonestown so they also weren't privy to that information before drinking out of the cups. But there were characters to root for and that (along with hoping for Bev's demise) was what got me through to the end.
Clarice (2021)
Calm down the cinematography and it's not bad
The video production is way over the top and stylized but the actual story wasn't bad. I realize CBS has about 11 variations of this type of show but I like this type of show. To me not everything has to be prestige television for it to still be an interesting show to watch and I have always loved the Silence of the Lambs offerings so I will give this time to develop and see what happens.
Call Your Mother (2021)
Lighthearted and fun
I thought it was a cute show. I love Kyra Sedgwick so that is why I initially wanted to see it, but I will stick around for a few more episodes to see how it goes. For a pilot, I thought it was a good start and has some potential. Pilots in general are kind of awkward and a lot of them are downright terrible, but the shows turn out to be great. But I am of the mind that not everything has to be golden globe quality, they just have to make me smile and I get that not everyone are like that.
