Dexter: New Blood: Sins of the Father (2022)
Terrible. Take a lap.
Outside of a small minority, no one watched 8 seasons of Dexter (or a miniseries nearly 10 years later) to watch Dexter die and/or get caught. ESPECIALLY when the entire basis of it relies on an egregious and unforgivable plot hole/continuity error. The Season 8 ending was a 10/10 compared to this horrendous betrayal of Dexter.
Parks and Recreation (2009)
Fantastic show (except for 3 major exceptions)
Love the show, started watching in Season 4, and have rewatched countless times since. One of few quality shows that has a series finale that doesn't ruin it.
But...after rewatching the whole series again this past week, there are 3 HUGE aspects of the show that do not age well, especially given current events: 1. Louis C.K.'s presence throughout season 2, especially as a cop. Super cringey having him accuse Tom of being a pervert..., 2. Leslie's obsession with, and the multiple appearances of, Joe Biden, the objectively creepy and the seeming presidential candidate who has been credibly accused, in more than one instance, of sexual misconduct..., and 3. Leslie's idolization of corporate sellout politicians, such as Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi. For a show that aims to exemplify progressive politics, in which leaders actually care and try to bring about positive changes for their constituents, this show does not hold up at all, especially in light of the #MeToo movement. I would hope that if the show had been made several years later, we would instead see Leslie idolizing AOC and Bernie Sanders, etc, but the fact that FDR gets mentioned less than Obama and Bill Clinton makes me seriously doubt that.
And yes, my review brings politics into my judgment, which it should. This is, after all, a show that has the government as its setting. And given the fact that it aims to paint Leslie in a progressive light, having her look up to certain people LITERALLY (in Chris' voice) makes no sense.
Again though, a very enjoyable show. Still one of my favs despite these things.
Community: App Development and Condiments (2014)
Fives have lives
I always enjoyed this episode, but after watching the abysmal ripoff episode Nosedive from Black Mirror, I appreciate this absolute gem of an episode even more. Do yourself a favor and watch this episode 3 times in a row rather than that awful episode. Or that show, to be honest.
Black Mirror: Nosedive (2016)
Ones don't get a rhyme, because they're garbage
This episode is just over an hour long. In that time, I could watch the MeowMeowBeenz episode of Community 3 times, and feel 1,000 times more fulfilled and entertained. This episode is a weak and unoriginal ripoff of a fantastic episode of possibly the greatest comedy to air on tv. This show frustrates me enough with its over-the-top nature, but this episode was just bad. Do yourselves a favor and watch Community instead, it deserves your attention more than this crap...
A.P. Bio: Spectacle (2019)
This episode deserves all of the pizza
I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard watching a network tv show. This episode was an absolute masterpiece. This onscreen stage performance by the students is my second favorite tv play/musical, with only The Nightman Cometh topping it.
A.P. Bio: Personal Everest (2019)
Hilarious as always
Fantastic episode, as usual. My only complaint, as someone who was bullied in school, is that Greg's comeuppance isn't karma enough for what a jerk he was. Especially with it being Glenn Howerton, I was hoping for the revenge to be a bit more juicy. The humor and everything else was extremely on point.
A.P. Bio: Kinda Sorta (2019)
As Victor said, love wins.
I hate that the show is ending, but if it had to end, this is the absolute best way that it could have. I'm still really hoping Hulu picks them up for another season!!!
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Mac Finds His Pride (2018)
Wow...just wow
I don't know why, but I've always rooted for Mac. Because of that, seeing him be hated and derided in the last several seasons, especially by Dennis and Frank, was tough. I think I noticed it first during the "Being Frank" episode, where Frank is disgusted by Mac and calls him a creep. That bothered me a lot. And I think, and hope, that Frank and Mac develop a stronger bond in coming seasons. I know the whole point of the show is showing how terrible and awful these people are, but it's nice to ha e some warmth every once in a while.
On that note, this episode left me speechless. This is the only piece of media where I can honestly say that I teared up watching. As a straight man, I cannot even begin to understand what those in the LGBTQ community have to go through (especially after reading some of these negative reviews), but the way that this subject was handled here was masterful. Rob and Danny deserve Emmys for their acting here, so emotional and poignant, I can't even put it into words.
And all of the bad reviews? It's honestly disturbing, and it's obvious that these are the "fans" that the show has been poking fun at for 13 seasons. This is really the only way they could do Mac's character justice given his arc over the course of the show, and I applaud Rob and everyone involved. Absolutely perfect.
