Body of Lies (2008)
Action, plot twists, Leo...what more can you ask for
I was fortunate to see this film last night and the more I think back about it, the more impressed I am.
You have a top notch director, 2 of the biggest names in Hollywood, tonnes of action, intriguing plot twists and a great story line written by William Monahan. What more can you ask for in a film?! The film started out a little confusing, but you soon find that you actually did understand what was happening. It's quite remarkable. Full of explosions, gun fights, car chases, a torture scene that was so graphic it was difficult to watch, and even a love interest for Leo's character.
I loved it the first time, and I intend to see it again and expect that I will enjoy it even more the second time around.
Afternote: I have now seen this movie 3 times and I am finding that I like it more with each viewing. I think it is one of those movies that you notice new things each time you see it. It makes a lot more sense to me now than it did.
I give it 9/10
The 11th Hour (2007)
Powerful film - a must see!
I just watched this and I must say, I was certainly already for environmental causes and considered myself to be adequately knowledgeable on global warming etc, but I had no idea! We are in a far worse state than most would be aware. This film takes you from the beginning of civilisation (to my disappointment, mainly focusing on evolution theory rather than creation - the reason I gave this 9 stars and not 10), then it shows the results of our way of life and frankly, it scares the viewer.
Many notable scientists talk about where we are now, where we will be without any responsive action, and where we can be if we decide to take action.
The film finishes on a relatively positive note, showing that if we act now, we can in fact make the necessary change. It certainly leaves you thinking about your own way of life and how you can change little things here and there to do you bit for humanity.
I think every person needs to watch this as the issue effects us all. Don't think for a minute that global warming isn't real. Just watch the nightly news and you will see it in effect. It is real!
Recommended to all!
Flowers in the Attic (1987)
If you've read the book, you wont like this movie
I have to admit, I used to love this movie. I fist saw it when I was quite young and while my sister is a big Virginia Andrews fan and had read all the books, I am not one who reads much so I was happy to watch the film instead.
Well, I just finished reading the book and I have to say, there is no comparison in any way. The movie is no where near as detailed. It misses many events, including the incestuous relationship between Cathy and Chris. It does not span the 3 years that they were locked away in the book. The grandmother cuts Cathy's hair, but in the book she pours tar on it.
***SPOILER ALERT*** This movie ends with the mother dying at her wedding - in the book, the mother marries and ultimately leaves Foxworth Hall. Totally different. While the plot of her dying at her wedding isn't all that bad, it is completely different to the book which they are claiming this to be a film adaption of.
The other thing is the actors. Now, it is my opinion that Virginia Andrews describes people more beautiful than possible, but they picked a mediocre bunch of people to portray them.
Since I saw the movie first, then read the book, I expected I may dislike the book, but I have to tell you, if you are considering watching the movie - you'd be more entertained to read the book. Similarly if you have already read the book, don't watch this movie as it will only annoy you.
