Chernobyl (2019)

You'll watch this over and over
4 August 2023
Maybe I am biased due to my dreams of becoming a nuclear engineer as a teen (those dreams being crushed by the circumstances of life), or maybe it's my interest in destructive forces (as every boy grows up with), but this series has you pulled in from the first 5 minutes. Everyone knows how dangerous radiation is. We all learned that the atom bombs at Nagasaki and Hiroshima were deadly, but never truly understood what made them so deadly. Man has been able to harness the miracle of radiation to our advantage, and as we learn in this series, to our destruction. Something our eyes can't even see can rip our very DNA apart. This series also teaches us the cost of lies. Of course Chernobyl took place in Soviet Ukraine in 1986. A regime riddled with lies. These same exact lies are beginning to infect even our own lives in our own democracies. Chernobyl was the downfall of the Soviet Union, because of secrets and lies. When will ours be?

Some good stories for the Halloween season
29 October 2022
To be honest, I have never liked scary movies, especially horror. Mostly because all these horror directors try to outdo themselves with how disgusting they can make it. Funny enough, I am quite enjoying this series, despite how graphic it is. I believe the reason is because they actually spent time on the stories. They're not just "shock factor" scenes mixed in with a lazy script.

There is definitely some questionable acting in a couple episodes, but what are ya gonna do. It was pretty fun seeing Delmar (Time Blake Nelson in O' Brother where art thou) and Ron Weasley in their episodes.

Give this show a watch before the season ends! I think you will really enjoy it!

What did I just watch?
26 August 2022
I'm convinced this movie wasn't reviewed before its release. That's the only logical explanation. It was like watching a fanfic film made by college kids with a half million dollar budget. The story was anything but linear, and character continuity is thrown out the window. Disney is just throwing turds at us and telling us it's chocolate because we will eat it up like the brain dead children we are. I wish they would go back to making "Iron Man" quality movies instead of busting out movie after tv show after movie after tv show. Don't waste your time with this movie.

Far Cry 6 (2021 Video Game)
6/10
Sadly disappointing
26 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Let me preface this with my love for the Far Cry series, namely Far Cry 5, which I have replayed more than any game I've ever played. What happened to 6? Why is a game with more content, boring compared to its predecessors? I'll tell you why, it's because all of that extra content, is worthless. We've got customizable gear...with perks that do very little, or nothing at all unless a certain scenario happens. We have a BUNCH of guns that are customizable, yet again with mods that need to meet a criteria before they actually kick in. And Overclocked weapons? After Hours of grinding for gun powder, The non overclocked versions can be upgraded just as good, if not better than the overclocked. It's like they added a bunch of features to make the game fun, but straight up forgot the fun. Bandito missions? Next to worthless. I have to wait two hours for 300 pesos? What's the point?!

What it all truly boils down to though...is the story. I have no attachment to it. In Far Cry 5, I could NOT get enough of the story or the characters. I was drawn in to the world and felt the perils of the characters. In 6, I just feel like a washed up Scorpio from Just Cause. Bad writing isn't the only thing to blame. The sheer number of side quests is laughable. Why am I picking up 35 side quests while I'm literally ON MY WAY to a main mission? I do have to say, the stranger things episode was cool. I love Ubisoft games and yes I've put many hours into this, but I am without a doubt, disappointed.

Boy, did they deliver.
19 December 2021
No other words than, "absolutely incredible". The emotion, the suspense, the excitement and nostalgia! I was so astounded at how they made this whole thing work with the previous actors. They didn't just come back for the part, they came back to glorify and solidify their mark with such incredible performances. I was the MOST impressed with Willem Dafoe. Man was that a performance! The ending brought me to tears, and was a perfect close to Tom Hollands Spider-Man. Bravo.

Almost didn't watch
28 November 2021
We were worried about watching this thinking it would be a disappointment, but man were we wrong. Not a dry eye around at the end. We were blown away by the series and brought to tears multiple times, and it didn't stop with this movie. The raw emotion that is portrayed throughout can bring any man to tears. Simply put, it is beautiful. Everything about this movie is beautiful.

Squid Game (2021– )
10/10
Captivating
26 September 2021
I have never seen a "last man standing gets the money" movie/series that pulled me in as much as this did. I was at the edge of my seat the entire time. (Not just because I had to read the subtitles) the raw emotion and human spirit that was shown throughout, and especially at the very end by the main character, was emotionally moving, to say the least. The mental and emotional damage shown by the players towards throughout felt so genuine. You found yourself cheering for the characters, only to be hit by the gravity of what is to happen after. They say money doesn't buy happiness, I disagree to an extent. Money would solve all of my depression right now. I have a happy marriage with a lovely wife, a beautiful son, and a decent house. However, we are so in debt due to NICU bills and other debts, and are about to lose our home. I have been thrown so low to the point of some of these characters, and I could relate to them. Would I be a part of Squid Game? Definitely not. I have too much to lose. Beautiful, yet sobering series.

JJ did the best with what he had
21 December 2019
I absolutely loved this movie. It was a wonderful ending that ties in a lot of deep lore. JJ really has to scrap almost everyone from The Last Jedi, and that was really hard, but he did it. Those who say it was terrible really get on my nerves because they just want to bash how Disney is doing with it. There were a few things I wasnt a big fan of, but all in all, JJ did an incredible job.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019 Video Game)

Completely about the story
23 November 2019
When I first started playing, I was a little bored. Lots of puzzles and figuring stuff out. After a couple of levels, it got so much better. The story is so rich! It ties in all the movies as well as clone wars! The feeling of progress really his towards the end. I kept feeling like I wasnt getting any stronger, until I finally built my own lightsaber and became a true Jedi. The power then hit, which is how it should be. All in all, very well designed game with great story, gameplay, and action. Also amazing graphics. GOOD JOB EA!!!

Rude Awakening
25 October 2019
This game is like playing in the movies "13 hours", "Act of Valor", and "a American Sniper" all at once. They really started from the bottom up with this game. I felt completely immersed in the campaign as it required you to make painful decisions. I really hope they continue with this story.

How did they do it?
14 August 2019
How did the creators of this anime do it? How did they make me love every moment of this journey and crying by the end after just TWO SEASONS? I've watched many TV shows and none have EVER made me cry. Yet after only two seasons, I was bawling next to my wife. (She was crying too)

The story was absolutely incredible. The character development was incredible. The tie in and execution of every episode was incredible! It was able to dip into a little make believe, while staying incredibly realistic. It is absolutely binge worthy, but not just once. I will most likely watch this many many times, and share it with anyone who is into anime.

Call of Duty: WWII (2017 Video Game)

A mix of emotion, nostalgia, and a new found appreciation for WW2.
8 April 2018
This is the first video game campaign in over a year that I have absolutely loved. Last one I loved was battlefield 1. It was absolutely incredible. It brought back the nostalgia of CoD 3, and CoD 4 with the theme, and emotion. And I mean this when I say this, the last CoD game that I actually enjoyed, was MW2. Everything after that I played, and honestly wasn't a big fan. This reignited the love I had for CoD. The graphics were SUCH a jump from infinite warfare, and the cut scenes were absolutely incredible. I could seriously watch a movie if just the cut scenes. Also, haven't been teary eyed over a game since battlefield 1. I literally just made an account on IMDB just to post this because of how impressed I was with Activision and the game, and how passionate it made me feel. PLAY IT. IT IS NOT JUST FOR THE MULTIPLAYER. Speaking of which, multiplayer is alright! Not to big on multiplayer though. I love the stories.
