Pearl Harbor (2001)
Based on a true story...only the names and events have been changed
Pearl Harbor is without a doubt the worst world war 2 film of the past decade! The plot was lackluster and unoriginal, the acting pathetic for the most part, and the history inaccurate.
It seems to be more preoccupied with portraying America in the best light than accurately depicting the facts. The love story is out of place and pathetic.
At the end of the film is a 5 minute rant about why America is supposedly great; it actually says "after pearl harbour all America knew was victory", obviously the writers had never heard of Vietnam.
The only good aspect was the special effects, but they could never make up for this absolutely dire film.
My only regret (apart from wasting 2 and a half hours of my life watching the film) is that I can't award zero out of 10!
Ocean's Twelve (2004)
yet another poor sequel
oceans eleven was an excellent film in my opinion; it had a great story, likable characters and tonnes of suspense. oceans twelve falls far short of being called a great film.
like so many sequels it is lacking in imagination and innovation. throughout the film i felt like i wasn't in on the plan; at one point for example the contortionist character was placed in the kit-bag of an Arsenal Footballer and sent to Spain for half of the film. why? i can't possibly say. perhaps this was explained in the film, but i didn't catch where and i'm sure there are many more confused audience members out there who didn't either.
the ending of the film seems like a bit of a cop-out as well. they are all arrested and rescued by Matt Damon's mum? pathetic. part of the enjoyment of this kind of film is trying to figure out how they are going to get out of the situations they get themselves into based on the clues you have been supplied with earlier in the film. if they are just going to spring a totally unrelated ending on us then they may as well just have them all wake up and find it was a dream.
part of me is glad i saw this film on TV so it didn't cost me money, but another part of me wishes i had seen it at the cinema so i could warn all you good people not to waste your cash.
