How can I explain
4 April 2023
The movie starts great and shows its ambitions right from the starts, but, then, there's a drop of quality in the writing, then another in the directing shortly after, then in the editing, then in the visuals. And it ends up like many other cheap 3D movie, without sparks, real humor, or appealing visuals. You really can feel the gradual drop in quality over the movie and I can't shake off the feeling that something had happened in the middle of the making and they had to squeeze out whatever they had to satisfy a deadline or just to finish the film. It kind of makes me feel sad for the ones who worked on the project, it was promising.

This is not how space works, but...
10 March 2023
Well, the show got almost everything wrong about space, and I highly doubt sci-fi fans, who by now have most certainly some basic knowledge of physics, can be in such suspension of disbelief. From stars the size of a "basket ball" to which you can't escape the gravity pull, to, well, almost everything else in the show, you just keep thinking "who wrote that?". The CGI is awful, I know independent 3D artists who can do everything you see in the show, but way better, in a matter of hours, with 0 budget. The sets look "kind of okay", but we are far from other productions such as star trek or star wars tv shows, so don't expect a big budget feel while watching. The music is okay, sound is okay... Now with all that negativity and being such a huge sci-fi fan, I have no idea why, but the show got me hooked somehow. I mean it's not a boring watch, and it gives me some of the "sci" I need for my day, and I'm never afraid to watch the new episode that is out. So, did the industry become so bad that I lowered my expectations or is there something to the show that appeals to my curiosity, who knows, but give it a try, maybe you'll find that little thing that appeals to you too!

Feminists, see? When it's good, it's good!
12 December 2022
Female writer, female heroes, female villain, female power,... yet I've seen no men complaining. When it's good, it's good! Ortega was the perfect match, I can't believe a 20 years old kid can deliver such subtilty in acting. You could feel her emotions on her emotionless face, I mean, how? The writing never gets too heavy while never being too simple, it's a master class of finesse and purpose. The aesthetic is on point, kind of a mix of the 50ies and today while staying believable. The costumes, the music, well, I just enjoyed everything. The directing was a treat, always beautiful even in the horror, kind of Tim Burton-y, but a bit more "pop" to please younger audiences I believe. I can't say how satisfied I am after watching the entire show, and I can't wait for season 2 to come out!

I enjoyed every bit of it, underrated imho
5 July 2022
It's not the best movie I've seen, but in the middle of all the movies trying to persuade you that all women deserve all the praises just for existing, it feels like this one is a breath of fresh air. The women in this movie are badass because they dedicated their lives to be badass, and the men are vile because they are vile, not because they're men,... I told you, a breath of fresh air, it's been a long time I've been waiting the industry to shift back to something more pleasant to watch. It all unfolds a lot like a video game, but it's all okay, all fun, and it's packed with great action! You're not missing much if you don't watch it, but I don't believe you'd regret it if you do, have fun!

This almost redeemed suicide squad 2021
14 January 2022
I'm just surprised by John Cina's acting, he wasn't that "great" in the pilot, but he got in the rhythm fast enough. The show is fun, the plot is silly, it's all tongue in cheek, and I really liked what I saw so far. They finally got the balance right with inclusions, minorities, lgbtq ... everything is there, but none of it drives the plot, and to me, this is the most respectful way to do this, everything feels level. I hope this will be the start of a cleaner and smarter way to do the right things, without being cringe and annoying for a group or another. Well, good job!

There won't ever be another chance at Matrix 4
27 December 2021
What a waste. Sophistication, sharpness, precision, purpose, originality, that's what made the original trilogy so epic. You find none of this in Resurrections. The scenario has some "good" ideas, but when you think "Matrix", your ideas better be "amazing". And it's the same for the cgi. One thing I loved the Wachowskis brothers for, is how precisely they're playing with the viewer's feelings till the big ending fireworks (Matrix 1, Speed Racer), and here we find nothing of the sort, did the "wrong" brother got to do the movie? Did they need each other to create such epic-ness? I don't know...

Where's the skip button
2 October 2021
Let's make it short, this movie is a never ending cutscene in a bad video game and the developers forgot to add a skip button. Definitely a troll, I'm pretty sure it's done on purpose at this point. The emptiest experience I had in a while.

better than suicide squad 2016, still worst than anything else
10 August 2021
I didn't have a good time, it was mostly painful to watch. You don't know something's choreographed when it's done right, here, everything looks over choreographed. When it's done wrong, it's like having an audio dub kicking in half a second too late, it just feels weird, and you carry this feeling with you the entire movie. I can't believe we went from Shazam to this in the DCU. There are some good though, the story has a beginning, a middle, and an end. I like most of the actors. The movie has a good rhythm, but all those things shouldn't be the selling point. Well, I'm disappointed.

I don't know anymore, is it funny?
26 July 2021
A creepy 60 year old dude lives in his 50 years old mother's attic, and creates the most advanced robot on earth with the help of some crispy socks. His gorgeous but sweaty 25 years old best friend comes to visit and discovers the robot, Regina. An instant classic! I won't spoil the movie, you got to see it by yourself with some friends and some beer, and find a game to do while you're watching. I can't give more than 2 stars since you got to provide the entertainment by yourself, but I imagine that it could be a good laugh.

It's obviously someone who wanted to tell a story, but had no idea how to do so. Camera work is probably done by one of the little sisters, editing maybe done on a phone, it's hard to tell, everything is too amateurish to be taken seriously, or to be taken like a "real" production.

I can see what they were going for, but... I don't think it's going to redeem anything. So yeah, nothing serious, try to have a laugh (I don't think they took it too seriously either), so no harm there.

the 80ies called...
23 July 2021
It's not good, it's somewhere between bad and mediocre. The characters are unmotivated, and the dialogs are so bad that even the drawings look like they can't act them out. Well, it looks dated, exactly like the show from the 80ies but with some cg and drawing tablet polish. The story feels like a cork board with some post-its awkwardly linked without any spark. In my humble opinion, this is a complete miss/fail and I truly start to lose hope for American animations of that kind.

a meh-- "trap movie"
9 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
When the traps in a "trap movie" look easier than getting at the bottom of your woman's purse, you know you've wasted your time. Very little story,... well the beginning looked promising, then you end up following the dumbest rat in a 3 by 3 labyrinth. Oh please, I don't know if it's a spoiler, but when she meets the alien, I couldn't hold it back, I laughed SO HARD, I'd give a 10 out of 10 just for that scene if it was a comedy or a parody. There's some good, the music is fine, the cinematography looks okay, well everything that didn't require to reinvent the wheel or too much thinking is pretty much okay, the actress is not too bad, but the rest is just dumb, really dumb. That kind of movie was made many times before and a hundred times better, we even got some classics. I mean we all can learn from the past, so why have something that bad come after all this? It's like trying to sell square wheels when we all know round ones are the ones that work. Well, disappointed , to watch while working maybe, or when you're bored out of your mind.

Perfectly balanced

So much that there's not much to say but try it for yourself! This could have been a classic tale like Snow White, the beauty and the beast... Everything is just right, pacing, dialogues... but you got to know that Japanese amines are known to "explain what they see", which is usually not seen as a good thing in our western productions. The idea is so original, in fact, it's the first time "ever" as far as I know that those ideas are exploited. Well, I just love it, I hope you will as well!

wow + tear up after 20 minutes !
29 May 2021
I'm not familiar with the original material, but if the manga is any close to the anime, it must be an instant classic. I tend to think that Japanese anime shows are just like Japanese food. They have "some" recipes, and every cook have their own twists on them. I can "eat" almost everything and point out all the ingredients by now, but this one, it's some fine "cuisine" where I feel I'm discovering new tastes. I can't shake off the "Wow" and the eyes tearing up just after 20 minutes into it, even though I feel a little bit like it all was pushed down my throat... this show's only limited by the format, which is a shame, it should be 10 minutes longer and benefit from a slightly deeper character development, I should have been crying at the end of episode one, not just tearing up. A definite 10 though, it's art and story telling at it's best (for that short format). The animation is impressive... well everything is just really, really good. I don't know if it's an indy studio or a small one, I didn't see any big names on the intro, but I'm sure will be looking forward for their work. I've seen 6 episodes so far, they all come with their own thing, not once disappointed.

I'm in love with them, an easy 10
14 May 2021
At first, the choice of taking Baelin as the main character in a short seem a bit odd and underwhelming, but at the end, it works. Real fans will remember the depth Baelin has in Epic NPC Man, like when he's stuck on a bucket, he almost got me tearing up, or when he shows skills a fisherman shouldn't have. They had to play with the limitations of a NPC for Baelin's route, and they did well. I'm also happy we got to see Aly for the first time in Honey Wood. Ah, god, yeah, it's fan service at it's best, not gonna lie, but they did it so well, and it's so heartwarming. Now it's working for a short, I don't think I would have been that happy if it was a feature-length movie, who knows. I love Rowan, don't get me wrong, but I so missed Alan; let's hope the next one has the original duo as the main characters!! Now if you never seen Epic NPC Man and wonder if you should watch Baelin's route, I'd advise you to go on YouTube and try to enter the VLDL universe ,first, it won't be wasted time, I guarantee!!

7.5 , 8 for the effort
13 May 2021
Well, that's a rarity from our French fellows. French movies are usually without any ambition nor that great of an appeal for sci-fi fans, but this one is solid and it can compete with an American sci-fi movie. I usually hate French cinema, even though I loved 70ies to 80ies French cinema, they lost their way, but I enjoyed this one, it makes me wonder if I should start watching French cinema again. I love the "1 Room" movies, and this one is on par with what's existing already. There's some excusable problems with the script when they're undermining some payoffs, by adding a twist on a twist on a twist on a twist... which makes it all look less important at the end, but the rest is very good! The acting is clean and believable, orchestration is what you'd expect, the "stage" is fine, even though the small screens inside the pods look like they were taken from an 80ies knight riders dash board, it's still excusable since it doesn't take you out too much. The flashbacks shouldn't have been used in the beginning of the movie, it just make it look weird, but later on, they're at the right place. All in all, not much to criticize here, a nice French surprise, I wont watch it twice, but I'm already happy I did once.

an excellent soporific
23 April 2021
I love marvel, but what happened here? I couldn't finish a single episode until now, each time I'm falling asleep. For the half of it I saw, it looks great, it looks like something worth your time, but somehow, it's not enough to keep me interested. Let's face it, this comes after The Boys, Wanda Vision,... First of all, that Hobbs and Shaw wannabe of a tv show falls really short. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, erg, they just don't click, I thought I saw a glimpse of something somewhere, but they just don't go well together. I saw the ratings, okay, if you're a fan, I get it, it's "another story", and the premise sounds great, but as a fan myself, I just don't understand. Anyways, maybe I'll watch it again from the start on a Saturday when I'm not tired, who knows, but so far, so bad.

Very well done
19 March 2021
Everything is good++ but the pace, just a little bit too slow, but it's really a matter of taste. It's well written, well thought, cinematography is what you'd expect from a good tv show, music does it's job but forgettable. The actors make you forget you're watching tv, they all are explored with some depth without going too far, and you can connect with all of them, this is really well written. Description says it's scifi, but I'd say it's scifi-ish from a far only because the science of matching doens't exist (yet), but it really didn't feel like what you'd expect from a modern day scifi movie. Well, again, very well written, I'd give a 8.5

Weirdly written but kind of watchable
16 March 2021
It's definitely not good, but it's not that awful either. You'll feel the writers are beginners with a mix of good and bad ideas. The drama is forced most of the time with almost nothing supporting it, many things are undeveloped or resolved before we'd start to care. Some of the kids act more like sociopaths than actual people, turning from a gentle person to a total *D* the very next scene. Photography is good, well, everything is what you'd expect from a professional team except for the scenario that is mediocre at best. Watch it if you're doing something else, if you like ice sports... otherwise don't bother, it'll feel like a waste of your time.

Can't get any better, comes down to taste, really
22 February 2021
It's so good, it's unbelievable. Everything in this movie is made with such great care that you end up wondering how is it possible at all. The direction is top notch, I can't imagine this being made with a small team, so directors probably had to manage hundreds of people, and they did it so well that it never feels laborious. It's fun, it's smart, it's interesting, it's cool, everything you'd expect to have to have a great time is in there. I can't praise more the amazing people who brought this to life. Just wow.

Very good Pilot!
30 January 2021
Just finished watching the pilot, and it was really great. I had so much fun, the humor is nice and clever, cinematography is on point, cgi is ok/soso minus (definitely not star trek discovery level), but it doesn't take you out too much. Well, I'll be waiting for the next episodes, definitely top of my must watch list!

this is really bad
29 January 2021
Not funny, not clever, not surprising, vulgar, ... 17 minutes into the first episode I had to stop watching, it's not that it's unbearable to watch, it's just bland. Hey, if the producers read this, go watch some of Ryan George's work on youtube, that's someone who can talk about movies and make it funny, every single time. Hire someone who knows what he's doing for a change

Ballsy Girl (2020)
6/10
5.5 stars, an ok little movie
23 January 2021
First of all, the title in French literally means "chubby/thick/chunky", I don't understand why they translated it to "ballsy girl". Writing is clean and everything's done by the book. It's a typical French movie with all the overused (/misused) clichéd Moroccan culture that I usually hate, but this time it was less out of control and actually did the job at conveying what a real Moroccan family looks like in France, but... it wasn't the focus of the movie anyway. Acting was on point, I enjoyed Lemercier and Bedia's (Ramzy) parts, even though I would have loved to see more Ramzy. The story isn't exceptional, don't go in expecting something huge. You'll smile some, laugh some, and maybe feel a bit sad here and there, but the movie isn't really trying to get more out of you. Watch it if you have a hour and a half to kill otherwise you may feel like you wasted your time.

21 January 2021
Great writing, good timing, perfect acting, those guys have it all. You can watch the same sketches from a week to another and laugh the same way. They're all amazing actors, who in my opinion, could be cast for big budget movies. I sure would pay to watch a full feature length movie with them in.

I'd give it a 6.5
15 January 2021
It's not a bad movie, but after watching it, you just can't shake off the feeling that you felt almost nothing. The story is fine, in fact it's a very good story. Maybe if I've read it I would have been more excited about it. I definitely think the filmmakers should have taken more care of the details and the substance and try to surprise us a little more, it felt a bit bland at times. I wouldn't say it's a miss since it's a pretty good effort, the cg is on point, the acting is so-so+, the sound design/orchestration is forgettable but does not fail at doing it's job, and the plot seemed coherent. My big + is the depiction of the upcoming robot wars, that seemed very realistic, well thought and most certainly an accurate preview of our future.
