The Atomic Cafe (1982)
Disturbing to the core of your being!
I would not "highly" recommend seeing this film. Not because it does not tell the truth about this era in our history, but because of the mash-up production quality of the film. It is a low budget, poorly produced film. There are parts of the film that make no sense whatsoever and it is hard to determine the point the film makers are trying to convey.
This film is not for the weak hearted as there are scenes of those who died as a result of nuclear effects and scenes of people just after the blast with severe burns on their body, which is gory to say the least. Parental guidance is STRONGLY advised for anyone under 13 years of age.
On a brighter note, the film does a fairly good expose' of the "downplaying" of the eminent danger in the wake of a pending nuclear attack. There are a few moments of hilarious scenes which don't relate very well in our post modern culture. Other times there is a "I'm sure there going to do that, like really, get out..." I gave this film a 5 only because of the fact it could have been cut together a LOT better and the production staff could have scripted it better and done a better job of compiling a more directed approach and delivering a message to the audience. I still don't know what they were trying to "say". It almost looks like a bunch of home movies strung together.
The Return of the Man from U.N.C.L.E.: The Fifteen Years Later Affair (1983)
Not what I remember as a kid....
This movie was clearly made for Television and the copy I got looked like it was a "bootleg" from China or something. The focus was terrible and the color saturation was gone totally. The company who released this particular DVD was New Star Video. Avoid getting a copy of this from this company, The quality is TERRIBLE.
As for the plot, it was weak and very unlikely. There is a scene at the end where there are 20-25 THRUSH agent lying dead in close proximity to each other and the remainder of the UNCLE contingent just jog on by with none of them even hurt. The believability of this film is low and although Robert Vaughn and David McCullum and Patrick McNee carry the film, it is still very weak and there are too many "I'm Sure, like their gonna do that!!" moments to it. Perhaps I am seeing it through "adult" eyes after seeing the original series as a small kid (8-10). Kids will like this but adults will see through it totally and may not enjoy it as much as a pre-teen or teenager would. Worth a shot if there is nothing else to watch.
5 out of 10...
The Hunt for Eagle One (2006)
I cant believe how BAD this film is!
The opening scenes are poorly acted out and the suspense level is not even noticeable. If I were a pilot that had just gotten shot down, I would be a WEEE bit more hysterical. No name actors and a no name producer with a no name production company = a no name film that has no value. I would give it a great big "0" if I could, even negative numbers are too high! I tried to watch this film with all of my imagination, but it was really hard. I just couldn't get my mind around it. I have been in the military and I know that people just don't act like that when under pressure. The human element just isn't there. The female pilot is too robotic in her verbal responses and I just thought it was quite boring. I was truly underwhelmed. Save your money and get the Bourne series, a much better series of films and a recognizable acting team. BTW, what was the budget for this loser film anyway?? Probably a six pack of beer and a bag of chips.
