Kemper

Maybe it was my mood, maybe I was drawn in by the "based on a true story" lure, but I found this film peculiarly entertaining. I don't know how accurate it is as to the facts, but we do know there was this strange killer. The problem with the facts has to do with the description of Ed Kemper being a serial killer of the sixties and seventies, yet we're seeing newer cars and cell phones. Maybe I'm just obtuse, but when TV shows like the new "Life On Mars" are more accurately portraying a time period I have to wonder. Still, I was sucked in by the presentation and the story enough to watch it until the end. It's not that gory and it does rely heavily on character, it might be too mild for those seeking a real creep-out.

The Drug Years (2006– )

A Significant Reflection Of The Sixties Drug Culture
17 June 2006
If you lived through the 60s, this film can be at times painful and other times quite joyous. It's all there but the small print in the counter culture tabloids prevalent at the time. These are the roots of a social revolution that is still playing out: "don't speak too soon for the wheel's still in spin, for the times they are a-changin'". While the film focuses on the revolutionary nature of LSD and it's dissemination at the time, that alone played a tremendous hand in the evolution of the intelligentsia, influencing engineers, scientists and aiding in the hyper-development of computer related activities. A salute to the filmmakers from one who was there - you've captured the era better than I've seen before.

Cosmic Africa (2003)
If you like PBS...you'll like this film.

I was surprised to see no comment on this film, though I guess I shouldn't be shocked by apathy at this point in my life. The photography is top notch as are the attempts to tell the tale of simple lives in Africa. "People threw their people off the cliffs, rather than see them starve"....doesn't make for great romantic nights with popcorn, but it does remind us how good we have it. Should we take such for granted? "The jackal is the most sacred animal..." I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I rue the day films like this are no longer made simply because everyone is positioning themselves to be a star...if even on a dopey "reality show". This is a reality show. Check it out.
