One Piece (2023)
I'm confused!
I don't know if I love it, or hate it.
I'm a huge one piece fan and they have stuck to the series very closely, but I'm not sure it works.
Some elements should be a little more realistic, or adjusted for live action - like Koby's glasses... as it just looks silly.
The costume designs can be hit and miss, but the FX/cgi is brilliant .
Some of the acting is very poor - in particular Koby, Ussop and Luffy, but some of the acting is great - Buggy, Garp and Zoro.
It could be so much more with just a few minor changes, and maybe an older audience.
If you are not a fan of the anime, I don't think you'll like it. If you like the anime, you'll watch it for a reminder as to how good the original is.
Death Wish (2018)
America
The city is experiencing a high death rate due to increased gun crime. Home break-ins and robberies are happening regularly. The police are stretched and the public are scared. The answer - buy more guns!!
That part of the story doesn't translate well outside of America.
Classic macho revenge story / Bruce Willis film. Action packed and enjoyable, just don't expect a moral or lesson.
Acting is questionable at times, Bruce isn't the best at emotional scenes.
Good story though. Similar to but not as good as Law Abiding Citizen (Gerard Butler).
Overall it's a 5/10. A good watch but forgettable.
Rise and Fall (2023)
Missing a huge element
So the basis of this show is that the 'Rulers' manage the 'Grafters'. The problem is, they don't actually do anything. All this talk about leadership, yet they don't lead, other than saying if a task goes on or not. Instead it feels like 2 different 'big brothers'.
To make this work, the rulers need much more of a say as to how the grafters live. They should budget electricity and hot water, as well as food and challenges.
The Grafters should be the ones who vote for which rulers stay in power like a democracy - don't base the show on a clique within a group of 6 people.
The rulers shouldn't leave the show when voted off, but return to the Grafters.
The idea is there, but the rules let it down massively.
Nothing happens.
Finding Michael (2023)
It would be great if Spencer wasn't in it
Spencer Matthews has 0 emotion throughout. What should be an emotional search for his brother, comes across as staged and narcissistic. I enjoyed all the parts that didn't include him. There is a running theme of privilege, he has paid others to risk their lives, while he says at the bottom in his nice tent eating a hot meal, stressed that his Walky Talky isn't working. He didn't do anything! Then returns home stating he now know what it's like to reach the summit, in his multi million pound holiday home.
If this followed the Nepalese guy and the search for his brother, this would be a much more well recieved documentary.
