Network (1976)
10/10
An excellent film portraying not only the truth about TV, but the truth about the media
4 August 2018
This movie is timeless. It is very similar in nature to Orwell's prediction of the future, but instead of Big Brother, here we have the current state of the media. I find this film to be more relevant to the cutthroat and downright ridiculousness of today's media, than I do to television. The network Howard Beale worked for exploited him for ratings, but it also showed how far the media is willing to go to get a "story," whether it's manufactured falsehoods or a ratings grab. Network shows that the media doesn't care about people or it's own employees, which is true today. An excellent movie with an excellent script, and superb performances by Peter Finch, Faye Dunaway, William Holden, and Robert Duvall. This is a must see movie.

Gotham (2014–2019)
8/10
One of the most exciting TV shows on TV right now
30 July 2018
From the nods to the films and comics, the intended misdirection of what era does this show belong to, the superb acting, especially by Cory Michael Smith and Robin Lord Taylor, as The Riddler and Penguin, respectively, to what we needed all along, how did Bruce Wayne come to be Batman, this is an epic show that deserves more than just 10 more episodes. Gotham needs another chance at a new network. Fox did not do them justice.

A reality show without manufactured drama!?
30 July 2018
I'm so sad that SYFY is dumping this wonderful show after 13 seasons of contestants showing us their crazy good artistic skills while helping each other when needed. The show is just exciting and you can't help but cheer on everyone. With phenomally talented and award winning judges, guest stars who are also fans or film and tv icons, a sweet and encouraging pair of Westmore's, and a passionate fan base, what's not to love about this show?

Vertigo (1958)
10/10
My all time favorite film
30 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
There's a reason why Hithcock's Vertigo is seen in the eyes of many film critics as the best film ever made. It's truly a masterpiece. Hitchcock's crowning achievement. The acting by Jimmy Stewart, Kim Novak, and Barbara Bel Geddes is extraordinary. The music pulls you into the oddly hypnotic suspense even further. The cinematography is so beautiful and so vivid that it adds more depth to the film. It's almost as if it's the fourth character of the film.

Both leads played two parts in the movie. Jimmy Stewart as the calm and mostly collected former detective, and Jimmy Stewart as the unhinged madman trying to get back to his Madeline. And Kim Novak as the beautiful wife of a former friend of Scotty's, hauntingly possessed by the spirit of Carlotta Valdez, and as the "tawdry" (original trailer's description of her character) redhead from Kansas.

Haunting, hypnotic, beautifully strange, suspenseful and unhinged all are descriptives that can easily be used to describe this wonderful film. It is a MUST see!

I'm not sure why this movie was made or why I decided to watch it
29 July 2018
I have a Master's degree in Forensic Science, so true crime interests me. I've read Robert Graysmith's books on the Zodiac killer, and I believe he was right on with who he thought the Zodiac was (DNA test did not match the stamps on the letters to the Chronicle, but there could be a number of reasons for that).

Actually I had no idea what kind of movie (documentary or fiction) when I added it on hold from the library. They don't give you an online synopsis of the film at the library. I was hoping for documentary, but instead I watched bad acting and an implausibly scripted movie. The only thing they included that was correct, was that the Zodiac killer was in San Francisco and murdered Paul Stine, the cab driver, there. Nothing else in this movie was remotely plausible or interesting.

A Quiet Place (2018)

Unique and terrifying

I love when fresh spins on horror and suspense come along, and this is one of them. I was roped in from the beginning and it kept my attention through to the end. Wonderful acting all around. John Krasinski and Emily Blunt have already proven themselves as good actors, but now all eyes will be on the young actress who protrayed their daughter in this movie.

Demon House (2019)
2/10
It's a hoax
25 July 2018
I'm from Northwest Indiana, where this supposed demon possession took place, though I've never heard of the house. I have issues with the people and places in the film. One, Mr. Bagans, it's the Lake County Sheriff's Department, not the Lake County Police Department. Two, people from Gary, Indiana are not believable.

As Zak pointed out, it's a very poor, crime ridden city. People from here would do anything to make it into a movie, rather than go on with their normal existence.

I find it hard to believe that the Hammond police and the Lake County Sherrif's Department were ever involved in such a sensationalized case. Northwest Indiana is full of crime, and I can't see these departments helping out the Gary Police. No one wants to go into Gary, Indiana.

The unearthing under the stairs of typical everyday objects makes no sense. You would expect to see an alter or satanic remnants present, not women's underwear.

The priest is suspect. Something that he said didn't correlate what a person of the cloth would and should know. I also find it hard to believe he was given permission to perform an exorcism. The higher ups in the Catholic Church don't take exorcisms lightly, and it is very hard to obtain permission.

I've watched Ghost Hunters off and on, but it's becoming harder to buy anything Bagans does.

It's a hoax. All of it.
