Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Well...
Unfortunately I have always taught that dinausors were big, ugly and without interest...and they still are to me !
Plus this movie is typical Hollywood re-doing the same thing over and over and over again.
You've seen one film like this you have seen them all.
Only good thing about it is that my son, loved it. But he is 11. So ...
Billy the Kid Versus Dracula (1966)
Vampire in broad daylight!
This movie could have been good had attention to some detail been paid.
Also, they could have put fangs on Caradine.
And instead of filming everything in blazing daylight while affirming that it is nightime, they could and should have filmed the vampire scenes at night.
Just doing that might have raised the film up a bit. Unfortunately it didn't happen.
L'année des méduses (1984)
Classic French total crap !
The only reason I give this movie 3 stars is that the filmography is pretty nice and the main star is gorgeous. But story wise, this is an excellent exemple of why many French films have a reputation of being extremely boring and going nowhere fast.
This is a fine demonstration of this .
Crap.
War-Gods of the Deep (1965)
Atmospheric sci-fi !
The good thing about this film is the eerie atmosphere it succeeds in creating for the first 15 minutes or so. After that however, the mood is lost and it becomes a movie with a weak script. But it's still worth a watch as long as you don't expect much. Long live Vincent Price !💥
Atlantis: The Lost Continent (1961)
Terrible.😂
So terrible it's hard to believe.
The acting. The dialogue. Absolutely ridiculous from beginning to end. Sad thing is , the idea was good and if they had cooked up a better scenario it could have been an interesting early 60s sci-fi flick.
But this, with a 5.6 rating is highly overated!
The Tree of Life (2011)
You're kidding right?
Failed movie. Deficient script. Veers to a national geographic documentary after a good start. Artistically very good. But a total failure story wise.
Don't waste your time, unless you want to look at it for the cinematography alone. 😂 Don't say I didn't warn you!
The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb (1964)
Not a good one unfortunately
I'm a big hammer films fan but... This one is bad.
It falls short on everything. It's basically the same plot as the first hammer mummy film, with a few cosmetic changes. Fails to create an atmosphere. Fails to interest in the main characters. Basically a failed follow-up attempt. You can skip this one easily, unless you absolutely must satisfy your curiosity.
The Cyclops (1957)
Fun for those who can enjoy this kind of movie!
Alright. First thing to get out of the way: of course the plot is simple and we've seen this story line before,but... This is a 1957 b movie with the special effects of the day and if you don't take the story seriously you can still enjoy this umpteenth attempt at a sci-fi monster movie. The idea is to look at it for what it is and to enjoy the zany dialogues. Especially the ones spoken by Lon Chaney. There's a place early on in the movie where he puts everyone at risk of a plane crash, but the second after they've landed safely,no one seems to give a hoot about it. Oh well... let's just carry on!😂
Nevertheless I enjoy these 50s monster movies for the glimpse they give us at 1950s movie-making mentality. So for those of you who are like me, I highly recommend it.
The Guilty (2021)
Overated
Psychotic nut job kills her kid and a "temper tantrum" prone police officer chats on the phone endlessly to "help" her.
No. No. No. Just too "cliche" dialogue and over the top for me.
Fear in the Night (1972)
Hammer starting to decline
By the 70s hammer's great atmospheric horror and thriller movies were starting to lose some of their luster. Not all of them mind you. But this one is one of those that illustrates the decay. The ending leaves some loose ends and doesn't satisfy. Even the presence of Peter Cushing and Joan Collins can't really transform this one in a winner. The plot is good but the interpretation is unconvincing and the film fails to create the classic "ambiance" of earlier heammer classics. Still very much watchable for hammer fans though. But shouldn't be too high on a watching priority list.
The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll (1960)
Classic Hammer stuff!
Of course this not fully faithfull to the original Jekyll and Hyde story. But it's hammer's twist on it.
And that's what I love about hammer films. They "re-adapt" the classic stories while changing them but not too much... This is one of hammer's films great strengths in my opinion . Plus they create these great atmospheric period pieces with little budget . Another good one. Very recommended. 😉
