Mulholland Falls (1996)
Petersen brilliant for uncredited 5 min exposure
William Petersen (that C.S.I guy) has a small uncredited role but it's the best part of the movie. His character comes across smart ass and tough, and it's a fun surprise to see him in this. He has a range that allows him to play just about anything. After his 5 minutes, it goes from looking cool to just nothing much. It leaves you hoping that his character will reappear in the movie but after 20 minutes you give up hope. The movie itself is pretty poor. Worth a watch on TMN or a pick up at the library but not much more. Too much of it reminds you of L.A Confidential except that where that movie starts to get complicated upon itself, this one is so loose, it steers everywhere but where it should. 2 out of 5 stars
Return to Lonesome Dove (1993)
good one
not a Larry Mcmurty masterpiece but it stands on its own as a good western, any of the lonesome doves do. who ever takes on the role of Woodrow call, does a great portrayal in their own style. It's also easy to see that they were looking to use this as a stepping stone to the t.V series (both version of it) and that the writers knew how to keep the flavor alive William Peterson was awesome in this, the geeky C.S.I guy is not the character he plays in this - this guy can do it all it seems
it's deserve to be enjoyed by those who enjoy westerns

Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years (1995)
deserved better
this show deserved a 5 year run. It almost has a NYPD BLUE feel to it for grittiness and the way some of it is shot. A good honest feeling western, it truly picks up where the mini series left. Bairstow seems to have studied the characters from each mini series created and eloquently brought his own version to the screen. He himself is good actor if given the right role in the right show. Watching him in other shows and movies, he knows how play dark characters. If the show had progressed i think some of the episodes written later in outlaw years would have become more consistent, i think it would have also ended more coherently. Still, Any lonesome dove is worth owning

Harsh Realm (1999)
potential squashed
the show itself had great potential had people where it counted not dropped it after 3 shows. Carter also should had separated it better from the x-files motif and let it stand on its own, it would have succeeded. THis includes music, narration by Scully etc. Still for what it is worth, if you are a sci-fi fan the show is a valued watch and owning. Bairstow it seems can be a great actor (if you remember his character from Lonesome Dove) if he is put in the proper setting and this includes this show. However if you have seen him in other shows or movies i.e Bone Snatcher, you may have misjudge him. A fine actor who needs to find success.
