Torn (2021)
The most beautiful documentary I've watched in a long time
The title of this movie was so well chosen. "Torn" is every single person in this family from Alex himself (caught between his family and his passion) but also his wife, his three children and Conrad.
It was such a special documentary to watch with the footage and documentation from back then and today. Every step of the way was documented. Such a great tribute to Alex Lowe, his family and Conrad Anker.
Alex Lowe would surely be proud and what a beautiful legacy to leave one's father.
Coming from a patchwork family, I could also really relate to the inner conflict of the different people in the documentary.
Sobbed so much at the ending. This movie will stick with me for a while.
Finding Michael (2023)
Enjoyed the footages of the mountain (then and now) BUT
As others have said: this documentary really leaves you with a sour taste in your mouth.
I enjoyed the first part of the story but as soon as they heard from the Sherpas before going up the first time that the body wasn't his brother, they should have let this go. And since it was that obvious, they probably could have found out that information beforehand. You could see the look on the sherpas faces at base camp before going up the first time. They were scared and they shouldn't have had to risk their lives and be put pressure on for a badly researched expedition.
I am just happy the people sent on this expedition were unharmed.
I liked that they showed the difficulties of retrieving the bodies from Everest. Something the Matthews family could have also researched beforehand. After watching this, I feel they should just not retrieve these bodies. Hide the ones that died in plain sight but besides that, it is just too dangerous for anyone attempting to retrieve them.
Ginny & Georgia: Kill Gil (2023)
Did not like this episode
Why did we have to see the previous episode again with slight changes - I hate when shows do this. I had to skip several parts because it got boring. The parts I was mostly annoyed about:
1) why did Marcus break up with Ginny? The break up scene wasn't believable at all. I don't know if it was the horrible acting in this one or the fact that the scene was unbelievable in general and obviously just there to create drama.
2) why did Georgia kill Cynthia's husband? Considering Georgia was supposedly so smart, this was the most annoying part. You can't really defend her on the previous murders (maybe the first one because it was an accident but even then...eh what? Second murder was also not defendable because she could have just left the guy instead of killed him) but this one was the most unnecessary. She wasn't defending Ginny or Austin and Cynthias husband would have died anyway. Of course she was going to get caught for it. I am really starting to be over Georgia as a character to be honest...
3) I am so over the PI. Please just leave. I'm really over the storyline.
Outer Banks (2020)
First season is good, second one absolute garbage
I absolutely loved the first season. It was exciting, well written. I really liked the characters. It wasn't too intellectually challenging but enough to keep me watching after I got over the fact that the main character is supposed to be 16 but looks in his 30s.
I absolutely hate the second season and that's why I am giving this show only 4 stars. The second season is 0 stars for me, the first 7 stars. It is so mind numbingly dumb, I want to yell at the screen the entire time. I literally fast forwarded the entire season because it was so boring with unnecessary scenes between the characters. I was so relieved when John B was finally released from prison (hoping this storyline would finally be buried) but of course Ward Cameron faked his own death. None of the story lines are surprising or interesting anymore. Every storyline is just dragged out unnecessarily. I am so over it. The show should have ended after the first season. I don't have any hopes for the third season after the nonsense that I just watched. Won't be tuning in.
Modern Love: Hers Was a World of One (2019)
First review for this episode
I signed up just to write this review on IMDB. It was so, so good. A 10/10 for me, no doubt about it. I absolutely loved it. The characters and their interactions are amazing. The couple together is hysterically funny. From the very first second, I thought the characters were hilarious. I also like the way they discussed bigger societal issues. When Tobin and Carla disagreed and discussed, I could really see value in both sides to the arguments.
It was overall a really enjoyable episode. Out of the entire series, this was my favorite episode by far and I will surely rewatch it. If the episode was a show with these actors, I'd probably binge every episode. Did not expect this at all!
