Alice (2022)
Fantasy Revenge Garbage
Like all rope a dope abysmal Hollywood movies now, they lure the audience in to start watching it, then they figure they will finish it to see where it goes, once they invested their initial time. It's pathetic, using rope a dope and bait and switch gimmicks.
"Based on true events" is the Gotcha bait and switch, because they based it on that, yes slavery did exist once upon a time in America, and has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING do to with the rest of the movie. The rest is pure fantasy hatred, at it's worst effort to get revenge.
The movie focuses around the central theme of the civil rights, of over 50 years ago, and the the late 60s and early 70s culture. The economy was very bad, and not to forget-- yeah, the Vietnam War was taking place too, but never referenced of course.
Somehow in all the events that took place with movie making in 2022, people forget that we had a black president from 2008-2016, to supposedly make up for all the wrongs of this nation's past... but apparently it only seemed to fuel more demand for hatred and revenge after his two terms.
Hollywood created a new Genre-- I call it "Fantasy Revenge." Where there is so much hatred and revenge for the past, they teach young children to hate, and the venting of revenge, told in a destructive fantasy way.
Had it just been an Alice and Wonder Land goes to the 20th Century, that could have been interesting in itself, to see how creative a writer could be with a poor enslaved woman brought to the 20th Century, experiences freedom, and how she might deal with automobiles for the first time, or electricity. But no, this will be about getting revenge, shown in a cheap imitation of a Tarintino style. The stereo types played out on both sides is very damaging to an audience who has never even traveled outside of their state.
The directors of the movie make sure they show the later 20th century fields being picked by all very friendly Mexicans, Lateenos, or what ever the titles they are given now, and owned by a black businessman. The rest becomes a low budget throw back the 70s "I'm gonna get you sucka" or a "Dolaymite," comedy-drama, that MAD TV used to use in their comic sketches.
Like the HBO series Lovecraft Country (cancelled for very good reasons), it's fantasy revenge, of re-telling a sliver of history in the most perverted, tainted, and destructive way possible to ensure hatred is sewn in any young person who thinks that is real history-- or worse, how to respond to it. The climatic absurdity in Lovecraft Country was showing a tribe of Shaka Zulu African warrior type women fighting a bunch of faceless southern civil war soldiers in a fantasy clash moment.
This fantasy revenge fast food gluttony was no different. Official movie critics who like their job$, never dare speak against them. Who ever are the keepers of the "Past," keep talking about the wrongs of, and then changing it to suit the satisfaction of never ending revenge. When we look at the crime today in 2023, movies like this seem to enable it. What message does a young person take away from such hatred and revenge? Shame on Hollywood and those actors who partake in such exploitation of themselves.
Special Forces: World's Toughest Test (2023)
Wastes time with people who shouldn't be there
A very generous 6
The show could be so much better if they had selected people who had a chance to make it through a full interview in an Air Force recruiting office.
I understand it's a "Reality" show, probably more for couch veal types, but for the love of Christmas pudding, pick some people who didn't need to be institutionalized.
The first 45 minutes of the first episode was a drama rama fest of such a waste of time. Some of those people shouldn't even be legally allowed to drive there were so messed up. "I miss my kids...."
"I'm a washed up singer...." "I used to act."
We all have issues, and challenges in life, and nobody cares if you are so and so sister, or boo-hoo, I'm not famous anymore. This should have been for the open public of the 10s of millions who didn't get to be an Olympic athlete, actor, or play pro ball. Or related to some celebrity.
These people are losers, and quitters, and a couple who were just bored. The ones that surprised me the most was an Olympic athlete, who quit. Actors are the least impressive, since most mediocre at best drop outs. Anyone can act and pretend, it's why drama and theater are so popular in high school and college. It's fun to pretend!
This could have been far more interesting if it was more challenging, instead of dealing with people who want to quit every 5 minutes on the show. It should have been more boot camp style. Make it harder leadership wise, and offer an internship or money as the incentive, instead of losers quitting in day 3 "Yeah, I'm done, I did what I came here to do." Quitters and losers, that show had no business selecting mental people for such an environment.
It's interesting though. If those loser had done 4 years of the Military when they were younger, they wouldn't have the issues they had as adults. The Military is the best kept secret in the world. Do the show again, and make it for the common person, with award and incentives with more leadership challenges.
Idi i smotri (1985)
A masterpiece that will never be dupilcated again
As a combat Veteran, this is one of the best war movies ever made. When you see movies like 1917, they sell it as visual and stunning. But it's like feeding your kid candy instead of real food. A iKumbiya fest.
This movie was not only haunting, but captured raw emotions and filming rarely ever done, or shown. We live in an age now where, kids (18 YOA) would rather be nothing than join the Military. I say that, because academia does an excellent job of selling lies, and removing history.
There is so much that is not discussed or talked about when it comes to either WWI or WWII. WWII is often summarized and repeated over and over again, that it was about the Holocaust. So much that, you mention WWII and it's all about that. When was the last time a war movie was made about WWII, and it was outstanding? Saving Private Ryan? Band of Brothers? How long ago was that?
My brother went to USC film school, and of course all Trojan alumni think they are all that and a bag of chips, but I was in awe at how many movies they don't study. I imagine it's why most movies are such garbage now, with agenda's being their lack of and sexual preference. This is deserving of being one the greatest, and if you don't like the movie or understand it, just stay with the brokness now being made.
Ordinary People (1980)
A classic master piece even 42 years later
How this movie only received 7.7 average is not only a perversity, but reflects what is wrong with society.
I saw it when it came out, I was 13, and there is no movie ever to come close or to compare since then. Raw emotions, candor, and dealing with life, captured in ways that is so honest, it is a classic for all time, no matter what year it is.
I think back how simple things were in the 80s, and now there are 128+ genders to make being a teen even more difficult and challenging
What a stunning performance by Mary Tyler Moore, exemplifying her role, that still impacts me, 42 years later, reminding me of my own mother.
This average rating of this movie is the most underrated for any reviews of any movie ever made. I also believe it was Redford's best he has ever done. Some luke warm critics were complaining about how his family was middle class, and could afford therapy, but these people are so shallow, they missed what it really represented.
For the young people who are either enabled, or given excuses for their lack of, things were different back then, and nobody was enabled. Kids had to work harder back then, and there were no participation trophy's. So when they show a middle class family (as the useless would call them privileged), it was demonstrating how a family who has it all could be in such turmoil and grief. There was no internet, taking selfies with your left over pizza, or of your feet as you watch TV in bad back then.
To me, it makes things worse, the fact that I have to explain that to people who claim they have coping issues, waking up or taking the trash out. We all had issues and problems back then, but what I would give if things were as simple as they were back then. How I miss it.
The only thing that would make this movie better, if it was longer. 42 years ago, I saw this movie when I was in the 7th grade, and it's just as powerful then as it is now.
Im Westen nichts Neues (2022)
It deserves better ratings
In a world where everything is PC, this is a very under rated movie. So few WWI movies are ever told told. When 1917 came out, I was hoping to see a war movie not a romance.
Don't compare this to the last one made, but as it's own. We live in a world where people hate war movies, they want pc and diversity, so their tolerance and lack of taste for history or war, goes out the window. Look at house of dragon, it received an 8.5, so it tells you what most people without taste seem to enjoy.
It's important when making a movie about war, people don't get caught up in the fast action adventure of it, but the many layers of what true war is all about. I wish there were more war movies like this.
Fallout: New Vegas (2010)
Great Game
9 Stars
This was a great game, but the only thing I found difficult was the quests had me doing area or trying to that was more towards the end of the game, proving too difficult for some areas, and then areas I would forget to return to. I decided to start over and use a walkthrough, which I would have never figured out on my own.
Still a great game that combined FPS and RPG to make it one of the best games with Fallout 3. Options and choices is what makes it great. I enjoyed the DLC, and only wish they could add more areas as expansions. I remember 3 being easier to follow quests in order, but this made it a challenge. I look forward to Fallout 4.
Better Call Saul: Saul Gone (2022)
9.5 - 10 solid show except for the end
You could tell by the main actors interviews how they had to delicately talk around the very end.
I won't give it away, but something felt forced or a decision was forced to end it the way it happened. As a huge fan of this series and Breaking Bad, there is very, very, very few movies or series that I can actually enjoy, and this was one of those rare series. The decision on the end though... just wrong.
I wish more movies or series were made with detail, precision and style, such as this one and like Breaking Bad. Most of the garbage now has a pc/diverse theme, over selling characters based on race, or other pc related political agendas.
Elvis (2022)
How did Tom Hanks sign off on doing this!?
The format, style and writing was typical of young generation ocd/adhd, drugged up thinking. It would have been really nice if they didn't try to over diversify it. Clients of mine who grew up with Elvis hated the movie too. Back then, unless you were rich, everyone was poor in the south, and everyone lived segregated.
The geniuses had to put rap music in this... we are so tired of the pandering already. Rap music about in a movie about Elvis's life. REALLY!? Such an insult to his music and gospel, and I am not even a big fan of his music.
Can't a quality story be told without it being all over the place!? It gets a generous 4 stars for revealing what was never told or talked about before. And Tom Hanks and Austin did a great job. That's it... format and style of this s show gets an F, for FAILURE!
The Dark (2018)
8 went to a 3
S01 was great, and I enjoyed it's originality. I gave it an 8. Then it crashed and burned to a very generous 3. I don't even know why the rating is 1-10, it should be a 1-5, or A,B,C,D,F. But I guess they don't give F's anymore to understand the paradigm?
I was really looking forward to S02, but...
Then they draaaaaaaaaaged it out for 3 seasons. Back and forth, back and forth. It got confusing, annoying, and and finally I was wanting it to be over, just to see how it all ends.
They kept playing a guessing game with the viewers, and it wore very thin. Sad, because this really could have been a great solid plot and story. A lot of thought went into it, but it was just an annoying mess over time.
When they finally wrapped it up, like most movies now, a very anticlimactic ending, leaving you with, that was it, after 3 seasons and going back and forth in time spanning 6-7 generations!? Do not pass Go on this one! I wish they would make another "Black Summer." How come all the good shows, they just end and won't make more seasons!?
The Old Man (2022)
6.5 Better than most
I haven't finished watching all of it, but there is no way this earns a higher rating than Dark Winds. This series started out great, then it gets very annoying dealing with his Jeff Bridge's girl friend in this. He just couldn't leave her of course, so the story needed a GF.
Imagine if Rambo was re-made and he picks up a girl friend along the way. It really took away from the story line and character. It actually started to get boring involving his conflict with his new girl friend, revealing a tension of greed, and slowing down the story line.
Does everything have to involve a romance, or is that how the Millennials think? It has a rinse and repeat feeling as to how Hollywood makes movies dealing with characters and character development. The story was moving along great, until
"hey look, a messed up woman who is single, lets get involved and create all kinds of trust issues, and dysfunctional relationship issues."
It could have been better. Maybe more series should be made by the people who did Breaking Bad, or Better call Saul. Or do the millennials and gen zombies don't like those shows either!?
The Mandalorian (2019)
It deserves higher ratings than an 8.7
Being that I was 8 years old when the very first Star Wars came out, we older people have more skin the game as fans, since we literary grew up with it and have been part of it for decades now.
Compared to some of the Star Wars movies Disney got their hands on to make, The Mandalorian is a solid 10.
As others point out, it saved the Franchise.
I wish it was longer. This really neat series is a great example of when they do something without trying to appease or over diversify for the sake of making sure every social issue makes into the casting.
Fans don't like PC or quotas, no matter what comes out of hollywood. Just make good stories, and don't worry about appeasing any particular group.
There wasn't anything to not like about it. I hope they do more.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Worst Super Hero made
I couldn't find one thing to like about it.
Such a climatic ending and cliff hanger for Spider-Man Far From Home, and this starts out flat as an opened, left in the car for a week, diet no caffeine coke.
I was in shock how pathetically written the movie started out, doing an "okay, all is forgotten, you kids can get on with your life now." Sloppy, lazy, and insulting, even to the youngest of fans out there.
Like a date promised to go to a nice restaurant, and they end up getting treated to that one hot dog at the gas station that has been on the back rotisserie for a day and half.
As we get over the first absurd shock, the movie just keeps getting worse and worse, more ridiculous as the plot unfolds. Recycled parts, with a really bad appearance with Dr. Strange in it. Their tango together and how that was written is even more absurd than the story line itself. This obsession to defy rules without maturity, by this 3rd Spider-Man, was just too annoying to even come close to liking it. It must be part of the mental issues with kids out there now, "I can fix it, and save the bad guys."
So very anti-climatic from leaving off from "Far From Home." Stale, horrible plot, worst script, and so very dull. I wonder if Samuel L. Jackson saw the original script, and was "Ahhh hellNaw, I ain't doing this sh t."
For the love of Christmas and all that is Holly and Jolly, get someone who can write, produce, and direct these movies. Let the fans have a go at, or the film students who would do it for room and food truck. They couldn't do any worse, I promise.
Stranger Things (2016)
It deserves higher ratings.
Being that I was their age when the movie takes place, probably has more meaning to us Gen X group.
I was nervous that S04 would have been sold into "sleep and quit" mind slavery, but they pulled it off.
Any series you watch at least 3 or more times earns 9.5 or higher, but since this was 4 seasons to date, it rates a full 10.
A note for the younger crowd, only the super nerdy geeks played Dungeons and Dragons back then. And yes I know that for a fact. Tying D&D into this whole series was really neat and a nice journey back to the 80s-- malls, and actually talking on a land line telephone.
They went a bit overboard on the whole surfer stoner guy. Was it forced to have a trans counselor from their school!? I wish they played more popular 80s music in all 4 seasons-- being that music was very much a part of the what really made the 80s. The background synth music in the score more than made up for it, but still 80s really was about how the music shaped the 80s.
A visit with Suzie was a nice surprise and home life there was even more of a didn't see it coming surprise.
S04 started out a bit anticlimactic and a bit Smallville-ish, since we waited 3 years. Character development started flat and didn't have the charm or wonder as it did in S01. Almost like they didn't know how to develop them. The build up to see what was going on took a bit longer, or rather nothing was really happening to get to that point.
They pulled it off though, once they got it kick started, with a very nice season ending. I do think though for shock value and to emphasize their struggle and pain, that the one main character in question should have been sacrificed. The fact that it maybe 2 more years before the season 5 finale, very sad and depressing.
Thanks for the awesome adventure... 1982 only seemed like a few years ago to be honest.
Becoming Elizabeth (2022)
Forced Inclusion
Who do they make these time periods for?
Why does hollywood force mandated inclusion?
Movie after movie regardless genre, there is focus on making sure the world has to watch history changed to appease a certain quota.
I took stars off just for the forced race role play on the Spanish characters. Maybe the young people think the Spanish are black, regardless of some moor influence over the centuries. There is a fantasy element to this rather than historical, but it would have been a 1 star if had been shake n bake with developing Elizabeth's character so far.
We Own This City: Part One (2022)
All over the place
There is this obsession and constant theme of trying too hard and forcing a racial narrative in just about everything that comes out of Hollywood now. A mess of a story line scattered here and there, to overtly over sell to the audience. I will see if part 2 improves.
The Survivor (2021)
It could have been so much better.
There was too much of a romantic wokeness that interfered with the story line. Had it involved more of the struggle and survival of being in the camp or boxing, it would have been a better movie. Like all war related movies, such as 1917, it's woke-brokeness, is made to appease a particular kind of audience. Certainly not a mature one.
This was more of a gender neutral chick flick, or leaned towards it with the main character a bit stale. The SS officer, and Danny DeVito pulled this movie from sudden death.
Six Minutes to Midnight (2020)
Not sure why the low reviews?
It was better than a 5.8, so with the way ratings are, maybe it's a point system on PC-ness? Or people have no taste.
It was better than I thought it would be and give it a 7.5 Which is still a C, but in terms of how most movies are garbage, a give it a solid B.
I often wonder if movies are so PC and fantasy now, their must be a diverse quota, with separate story line? I don't know, but when their is no PC is movie, it's refreshing and makes me feel there is hope.
Efterforskningen (2020)
A great investigation series without PC
A great investigation series that wasn't PC or about inclusion. The series could have been shorter and felt it was dragged out for the sake of more episodes with lots of personal drama.
The ending was rather anticlimactic, just came about. They showed who the victim was, but I wish they showed the killer as well. I like HBO doing foreign movies to cut back on the whole PC mandated material that destroys content as well as story line.
Adventureland (2009)
Romantic Comedy
I am in awe of the low ratings for this movie.
I can't imagine anyone one of that generation giving it low ratings. Maybe the younger people couldn't connect, since back then we didn't have racial issues, gender identification issues, or had to have cell phones in our hands, or even have them.
It was a funny moving coming of age movie. Most romantic comedies are anything but funny, too much drama, too much stupid stuff, but this was excellent.
Moonrise Kingdom (2012)
A+ A brilliant and unique story telling of coming of age
After nearly a half a century of going to movies, there are so few movies I give anything over a 7, but this movie was one of the most unique story telling of coming of age in a very unique style. I loved it.
It's humor and serious tones by kids, with a superb cast of adults made this a delightful romantic comedy, with enough drama to balance it out.
It really was done brilliantly, and in such a style that didn't take anything from the story telling or from each character. The style alone was unique. People who didn't like this movie, or couldn't appreciate the style, humor, or story line, are probably content with just cgi action and rapid drama of suspense. There are too many fast food movies being made now, with the intent to appease the party line that doesn't require reflection or thought.
I have never seen a style done this way, and rather than lengthy monologues, the quick and witty dialogue made it very enjoyable and entertaining.
Wes Anderson should have done Jojo Rabbit, and if you can see the vision of his work, you know that it would have been brilliant too.
This was an enjoyable, fun, humorous, and delightful movie, that doesn't come around often enough. Lots of coming of age movies, but this is one of those that is in a class all of it's own. Like Fantastic Mr. Fox, it was done in a way that is clever, funny, and brilliant.
This will be added to one of my top favorite comedy-drama-romance movies.
Midway (2019)
Good movie but it lacked
One thing a War movie should not be is romantic, or for the whole family.
I saw this movie 3 times and although it had some really good moments, I felt that it failed to deliver the desperation of WWII in the pacific, or the hardships of war. They showed one kid being afraid, like "gee paw, I don't want to go do my chores." The rest failed to capture the fear of combat. Much of the younger sailors it was either over doing it in some scenes--forced scenes, or they seemed completely helpless.
Not sure why they had to do Pearl Harbor attack again, we are reminded of the movie Pearl Harbor when they turned it into a romance. Still, combat as opposed to showing family time, or a good time at the O club is better. The whole at the club or with the family scenes were not necessary. Much of the combat scenes were too neatly wrapped up, like some action spider man movie or something.
Too much hot dogging with the pilots, too much kid like running their mouths, turning it into a fantasy, romanticizing war. It was better than 1917, but this didn't have the impact as a war movie like Fury, or Saving private Ryan. Why do people keep talking about the later movies? Because we were shown the horrors of war, not some Top Gun of WWII, "hey bring the whole family, even the Musses can enjoy the movie too." "Look dear, dancing and singing at the club, and family time."
War movies should be war movies, not how to gentrify for the whole family. As a 30 year career Marine, and combat Veteran, I get what and how academia and hollywood thinks of the Military, and there is no excuse for it.
I want hollywood to be daring, and bold, making war movies, not worried about who they are going to appease, offend, or how they can gentrify it. It's one thing to make fiction movies, but when an opportunity comes along to show a most important history of Western Civilization, it's all right there, they just have to re-enact it and do so in detail. Hollywood needs more Military advisors, not some how to appease everyone. Believe it or not, career Military go to all the same colleges as everyone else does, even the Ivy league ones and graduate top of our classes.
Don't worry if the wives, libs, and girlfriends don't like war movies. They can watch something else. But when you do it right, it means other genre's can be appreciated equally, raising the bar for them, tearing down that PC gag or filter, that sugar coats movies into story lines all over the place.
1917 (2019)
6 1/2 - Highly anticipated, but a missed opportunity.
A war movie that tried to appease all audiences by not making it too violent, missing the mark of showing the true horrors of WWI.
WWI is rarely talked about, and for many, many years, I was anticipating and hoping for a great WWI movie to be made.
If they were going to do a "Message to Garcia" the movie should have been over 3 hours, with the first half showing the horrors of trench warfare, the misery, suffering, and fear. The ending combat scene was very anticlimactic for a WWI movie, or any kind of war movie. A very short scene, diminishing the charge across no man's land.
A war movie should be a war movie, not some romantic, okay don't make it too violent. Stop trying to romanticize and appease, and be daring to make a war movie that people will talk about for decades to come and be one of the greatest. Think of Saving Private Ryan on the D-Day beach scene.
The whole scene with the French lady and the baby was unnecessary, and a waste of time for the film, but again, forcing in the appeal for a general audience. That scene should have been 30 seconds at best. That scene lasted longer than the ending climatic combat scene. What were you thinking?
War movies should be gritty, horrible, and leave a lasting impression, not "wow the visuals and lighting were amazing."
A few movies that represent war for what it is without being romantic.
- Furry.
- Saving private Ryan (not so much the story but the intense combat)
- Apocalypse Now. Nothing romantic about it.
- The Deer Hunter (for those who don't want to see much combat).
- Flags of our Father (IMDb rated it a 7, but 1917 has an 8.3) Come on.
- Letters from Iwo Jima
- Platoon.
- Band of Brothers
- Pacific series (Not all episodes, just the combat ones).
Not all inclusive or ideal, but some very shocking and griping moments of the confusion and horror's of war.
We don't need anymore Pearl Harbor's, and even Midway, way too much shore time with the wives, clubs, and families.
I am hoping someone can do a WWI movie and be a war movie, not this touch and go of being more of a TV-14 movie. I promise you, the wives and girlfriends will not hold it against their man for them wanting to watch a war movie without them.
We need good war movies. Starting from WWI. How about an Island hoping campaign of WWII? Start with Guadalcanal and end with the Battle of Okinawa? Good for at least 5 different movies.
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
Fell flat on otherwise a great premise and story line with missed opportunity.
I was looking forward to this movie, unfortunately it was over promoted and fell very flat on some key moments that could have been very clever and funny. I kept expecting a punch line, then the scene was over. Some of the humor was almost too cliche, that wasn't really funny.
They should have had Noah Taylor play Adolf Hitler, see tv Series "Preacher." All through the movie I kept thinking, this was something Wes Anderson should have done. After watching "Moonrise Kingdom," I was hoping Jojo Rabbit was going to be as funny, witty, serious, charming, and delightful, but it wasn't.
There were plenty of opportunities to expand the supporting characters with more humor. Most of the supporting cast was mute, where there was again missed opportunity to make this movie stick.
The serious moments toward the end were good, but it didn't do the first 3/4 of the movie justice. The kids who played their roles did a great job, but I feel the lead role of Jojo's script was lacking. Either too much fear, or not enough depth to his character. His mother's script and role just didn't fit into any of that, which threw off his character.
Sam Rockwell as the Captain, his role was by far the best, and made the whole movie. The choice in music was not a good match and lessened it to a degree of just being all over the place and didn't fit.
I wanted to enjoy this movie, but all I could think of was that it fell flat, and was overall disappointed.
Preacher (2016)
Started out a 7.8 then ended miserably in FAILURE.
Started out creative, interesting, fun, and different. I was very anxious to see character development, and story line.
There is a difference between dark humor, and just pure evil in the writing and story line. Not even art or creativity, just pure garbage in the last season. This ended with the most anticlimactic series I have ever seen. All over the place with gaps, confusion, abrupt conclusions, it's as if someone intentionally did this to be banned from ever having anything to do with entertainment again.
It was an abortion. So disappointed in seeing how this show fell apart, then I was just disgusted with it. It wasn't even humor anymore, or creative, it was some kind of evil, sick and go no where story line or ending.
I gave it a second star for staring out great. What is wrong with your writers, directors, and producers? This was yet another ruined garbage series. Those who enjoyed this series, no wonder millennials are the first generation to do worse than their parents.
Captive State (2019)
Surprising Very Good. 7.7
As other have stated, if you watched Colony (tv series), you would get this movie immediately. This movie was very close for me to give it 8 stars or equivalent or on a test a "B."
I was very surprised how well this movie unfolded, and it didn't stack up to social, PC, political, or make everybody happy on the left. Often times, scifi series goes into sub plots of various "themes" about characters, and social agendas, which loses the story line, and then becomes lost in the PC appeasement, or worse, every diverse character gets the protagonist trophy.
The trailer would leave you to believe there is some "social" justice themes going on, but that is just how Hollywood and the media forces everything on society now, and people come to expect it. It's also why most movies are so awful, nobody wants to go to the theater. It starts out with the kid asking for his lawyer. Hollywood needs to stop with the social justice crap.
People see the trailer and think they are going to see something else.
The story line unfolds and keeps you interested, and is realistic and seems more credible. Characters are not complicated, and nobody is crying "you don't know what's like to be me," or contrived racial hatred. No reflection or bashing on the current administration, it is a relief to not see those themes thrown into a movie. It also allows the story to be told without other motives or objectives.
There is no back story, but it's clear what is going on. Maybe a younger audience wants to see alien vs human battles, or how other movies unfold. If you want see a good alien war movie, watch "Battle For Los Angeles." Critics tore it up, and my guess it is because the Military was not made to look awful for once, and got to be the were the good guys fighting to save civilians. I thought it was a good movie.
This is not a romance, or social justice movie. It's not a an action shoot-em up or slathered in cgi for the sake of making special effects for story line fillers.
One of the things I really enjoyed was that it is not some "Bird Box" style of movie, or some other scifi make you scared with annoying characters that young teens would appreciate more.
A few comments and critiques that kept it from being an 8.
1. Cover picture for movie is terrible, but not enough to score down.
2. Interracial relationships or scenes are overplayed out and forced in a movie like this. Stop trying to appease and force it. No romance was even required for a movie like this. Absence of romance or love, shows the seriousness of the occupation, being oppressed, and state of mind of the humans.
3. The white kid acting like a eminem or the wanna be "Yo" rapper, was over played, and stereo typified, making him look like an idiot. Just make the kid normal like the main character, and stop up selling the whole making the diverse characters appear more acceptable.
4. Enough with the gay/trans being forced in every movie. Society gets it, everybody knows and understands, nobody is discriminated and no body cares your orientation. The scene that reflected that didn't kill the movie, because the next scene was an intense build up, but none the less, it just "had to be there" for some reason.
Some of those issues are what kills most movies, but it appears Hollywood has a check list now when making a movie. Please Hollywood, just make good movies, we don't care who or what people are, just as long as the movie is good, and there is no PC pandering.
It's not often I find good movies that are worth rating, this was a good movie, and despite a few minor critiques which usually kills most movies, this is very worthy of seeing and rating!
Nice Job crew who made this movie;, I am an honest reviewer, firm, and consistent, and when a movie does a good job, you bet I give them all the credit they deserve. A mature crowd (with lost of experience in life), will enjoy this movie.
