Hapless (2020)
Nearly works
Story lines around jewishness. Everything is a bit forced. Pleasant mild , harmless humour but never quit hits the mark.
The characters are all too similar.
The conflict that is supposed to create comedy are banal and don't really engage ones interest.
The main character is endearing but has a unconvincing , contrived , long suffering persona.
The concept of the show has promise but it doesn't quite deliver.
It's hard to fulfill the quotia requirements for the review of a show that is so easily forgotten whilst watching it. A little harsh perhaps. I have only seen 4 episodes and really there was ....
London Boulevard (2010)
satisfying crime flick
Pity Ray Winstone is in it. His acting is truly criminal.
The soft guys tough guy. As hard as putty and just as thick.
The director covers a lot of ground, yes it is abrupt in places but it works.
Strong performances from Knightly, Farrell and as to be expected David Thewliss is brilliant.
Your Home Made Perfect (2019)
good but could be easily improved
Excellent but no need to do a full intro of the architects on every episode, also not necessary to gush about the 3D tech on every episode. We get it. Could show more of the build and definitely show more of the finished house. More show, less tell.
Feel Good (2020)
Makes me feel stressed
Not funny , might be good in some way. Not funny , might be good in some way.
Not funny , might be good in some way.
I only re wrote the entire review multiple times because apparently it was too short.
The Long Goodbye (1973)
A real stinker
Hard to find anything not terrible in this film. First 12 minutes Marlowe feeds his cat and in the process it is established that the film is going to be a real stinker. It delivers.
Boksuneun naui geot (2002)
Violent and disturbing
Even by South Korean standards this film is violent and disturbing.
The Irishman (2019)
too old
Well made and mostly holds attention but impossible to ignore the age of the actors. The young selves in flashback are elderly. Seriously hard to know what age they are supposed to be pretending to be but De Niro has a baby.(really?)
Beating up the store owner he looks like he needs a walking frame. The store owner could have punched his lights out. Valiant effort or vanity effort. All great actors but their agedness makes the whole time line "Out of whack"
Wanderlust (2018)
HIghly original, sometimes drawn out.
Steven Mackintosh is very very annoying. Not sure if it's because he's a good actor or a bad actor, certainly makes women's attraction to his character bewildering.
Always Be My Maybe (2019)
It works
Formulaic romcom that works. Well written and cast if a little loose on the editing. Does what it should in a predictable but satisfying way. When others flag, about half way, this gets a super celebrity superb comedy boost. All leading to the mushy ending you expected on the opening credits. It works, watch it, enjoy.
Greg Davies: You Magnificent Beast (2018)
tedium
He needs better material. Just not funny. amazing what you can away with. trivial and not funny. He's a good comedy actor and he gives everything in this but the jokes are dire. Couldn't chuckle.
Gossip Girl (2007)
tales out of school
The actors are far too old to attend school which is fine because although they wear school uniforms and school is what connects them so far (halfway through episode 1) none of them have attempted to attend the school although three of them did board a bus apparently with the intention of going to school.
Origin (2018)
if you like sci fi , you might like this , though it is badly done
Sci fi requires suspending your disbelief , fair enough, but it is hard not to mock everything from the very beginning. The characters are filled with fear when they wake up on board a dimly lit spaceship. Why? Didn't the flight attendants tell them what to do in the event of sudden loss of pressure? It is pathetic rubbish. Sci fi enthusiasts may like it.
Bad Move (2017)
Good premise very badly executed. A bad move for all concerned.
The simple fish out of water idea of city people confronting the realities of a rural idyll offers plenty of comedy potential, add to that the tried and tested vehicle of grumpy man in a world that doesn't make sense and there should be plenty to laugh about. The lack of humour is inexplicable. How was a second series commissioned? The great Kerry Godliman deserves better as does the likeable but mediocre Jack Dee.
